Turning points often arrive when we least expect them. As I celebrate my 36th birthday this week, I found myself at a crossroads with this podcast - something I've poured my heart into creating for nearly 200 episodes.

The realization hit me like a lightning bolt: I've never given any single creative pursuit 100% of my focus and energy. My music, my performances, my writing – all have been competing for attention while I juggle multiple commitments. This podcast, as much as I love it, has sometimes pushed other dreams to the background. The interviews, writing, editing, marketing, and financial investment have consumed energy that could be directed toward completing my album and discovering my true purpose.

This isn't a full goodbye, but rather a necessary pause. I'm stepping back to create space for deeper focus, to see what happens when I finally give my music the undivided attention it deserves. The song "Special" I've written reflects this journey – the lifelong desire to create something unique and meaningful, while battling the self-doubt and imagined criticism that lives in my head.

What I've learned through this podcast is priceless. The genuine connections, the vulnerable moments, the creative surprises that emerge during conversation – these experiences have shown me what's possible when you commit to creating something authentic. Now I'm taking that knowledge and applying it to the next chapter.

"My favorite part of a camp fire is when the wood begins to glow

It's things like this that I think about more each day that I grow older

The calm, the crackle. The smell, the smile on my face. It's magical. 

When I was younger I didn't look out the window and see. I saw a bunch of nothing. Now I see the trees, the sky, the water, the life that's happening in front of me.

I enjoy just how rare it is to see and hear how beautiful those things are.

Our society is stuck in boxes, digital hell holes, that never needs water because those trees are fake. Those pictures are stages, those comments are AI.

We live in a world thats on the edge of World War 3, and I feel like we are pulled away from the simple things even more today. We can't have a thought without just pulling our phone out. I wonder what 8 oz's is in Cups. Siri, what's 8 oz's in Cups? And its there. You don't call your mother for that answer anymore, You don't reach out to your grandmother who loves to feel needed. We are stuck. I feel So stuck constantly. Will anything change, will the world slow down again like it did in 2020. Will I be able to smell the roses, and drive down topanga canyon in Los Angeles and See the ocean without any smog? 

Will we be able to go anywhere in the world and not be judged because We come from a country that's not respected anymore. 

When will the fire glow 

when will there be peace in my mind

When will I believe in humanity

When will the people around me see what I see

How is it just me. Why is it just me. 

I crave that calm, that crackle, that wonderful smell of a magical camp fire"

You must love living in a town with a football team. You live the falcons right.

My football team play in the UFL and their name is the battle hawks.

I am saint louis Missouri, through and through. I am toasted ravioli. I am imos pizza. I am bread co. My first date was at a pasta house. I got married in forest park

my order is a Half order of shrimp fried rice, a shrimp Saint Paul sandwich, a peach vess with some egg rolls. EVERY SINGLE TIME FOLKS.

Good and bad, saint Louis has my heart. I love a cardinals game, but I also want to see ball park village stop enforcing strange dress codes like “No jerseys, athletic shorts, sagging pants or shorts, or bandanas”. We know who you are talking about. And also the venue is 15 steps away from Baseball heaven…BUSCH STATDIUM. 

I love Nelly, Jayson Tatum, David freeze and Stan the man

I can smell the food trucks in tower grove park sitting in my house right now.

I hear the music at the botanical gardens. I can feel the fans blowing during intermission at the Muny. I see the kids rolling down Art hill.

I remember falling asleep on the floor at saints during the lock ins. Wearing baby blue Air Force ones with a baby blue Micheal Jordan North Carolina jersey on and a pair of gah-bows.

I can taste the donuts from pharaohs donuts. I can taste the beer at schlafys. I can taste my grandmothers greens. I’m wearing a STL HAT here, there and everywhere. I don’t own a hat with another city on it. People have Seen my hometown pride in magome, tsumago, Kyoto and hakone.

How can I be me without my city.

I hear miles Davis in Mexico, I see Black Lives Matter in Ireland. 

I know that Ferguson is 12 miles from downtown STL.

I believe that I’m a force of nature, because of my city. You don’t scare me. You don’t know what I’ve seen, but also the love that I share comes from the people, the music, the food, the community that raised me.

My white Air Force ones with the gum bottoms if you know you know, but to most it isn’t a dead give away. The way I say therr slips out from time to time. My favorite quarterback is Kurt Warner. May not say you much. My closet has 38 items that say either STL, Saint Louis, Kirkwood, or the wood. But you can’t get into my closet. My father played baseball with Nelly back in the day, my grandfather use to bodyguard for Ike and Tina on the east side, I was on the cover of Louie magazine in high school, OH what high school did I go to you ask? Kirkwood class of 07! I have an 30 pack of Bud select in my refrigerator downstairs here in Georgia right now. 

All these things but what you truly need to see is this.

I’m a young black man, raised by a single mother on the south side of STL. I’m not rich, I’m not a monster success. Where I’m from, I knew people who never left the city. I knew people who were murdered, I knew the difference between fireworks and guns as a child. But I’m alive. I’m married, working on a family. College grad, and proud of my hometown. 

I am a visual representation of saint louis. The city comes in different colors, shapes and sizes. But it’s

I share a deeply personal poem, "Picture, this Picture that," inspired by my recent trip to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta. My wife and I were profoundly moved by the stories of resilience and courage, especially that of six-year-old Ruby Bridges, who faced unimaginable adversity just to go to school. Her bravery and the broader struggles of African-Americans during the civil rights era prompted me to create something meaningful that I couldn't wait to share with you.

Dropped my keys but caught it real quick.

I was all alone, so my celebration was to pick my favorite Kanye west song on my phone.

Walking to the beat, intrigued by the sound.

Admiring my skin, the suns got me a nice toasty brown.

I love this song so I'm spinning around.

Noticed this girl, stopped and looked straight at the ground.

She is soo cute, I'm about 50 feet away.

Didn't realize I'd be smitten today.

Love at first sight? Stop with that mess.

But I would love to at least smile at her, test the waters.

She's smiling at me already, how did I get so lucky?

I feel goofy as hell right now.

Tired of the stars so far away,

I need the closest one to lighten my day.

I need the breeze blowing soft and smooth

As we toast our glasses with some of the best beer ever brewed.

Clues to choose this unicorn are blinded by the curse of being born with a passion so deep for the stage that I throw away most of my money saved. Brave they say, but very lonely. Lost in my mind. Beginning to believe it's only I who can stand this kind of life. I strive for the best for me, and a partner tends to feel less likely. Stress is on my shoulders, but it's harder to carry as I get older. Money money money it makes me more hungry to achieve what I feel will move me towards a career in the future. Not so sure, but it's called an adventure for a reason. Give it a couple of seasons and I'll be closer to that star. Hopefully soon, but for now I'll continue to stare at the moon.

People tell me all the time that there are different kinds of love, And you can fall in and out of love, and you can love people more then others. I disagree. I think love is a mix of several different emotions. Here is a great example of how I see love. 

Everytime a person say I look like another person they name three different people and blend them together to make me, and I just say...yea it's not those three people you see...it's just ME. 

Love is the same. I don't think love is a thing, it's just happiness,sadness, jealousy, devotion, horrible, incredible all rolled up in one. So the word "Love" was just created to explain the craziness we go through for other people. 

"But you can't love a family member like you love your significant other!" 

Why not? Honestly that's what I've been looking for since day one. The only difference is sexual tension. Take that away and BOOM the same love I share with my aunties and cousins. I want to find someone I love just like my siblings and parents. Someone I can be with but also live independently from. Someone who cares about me but can't stand my ass. Someone who  talks to me about everything. I don't want a girlfriend whose friends know about our relationship more then I do.

Today I had a vision.

It took me to another universe.

Maybe in the future, maybe in my head, but it was so clear I could smell you. I could feel your arms around my neck as we looked into each other's eyes. You were magnificent. You made me feel like a high school kid living his dream. Dating the queen. Dating the perfect person for me. Others may push you to the side or break your heart because you are intimidating or smarter or prettier then them, but not me. You are everything I've ever asked for and more. Not sure how this happened. Not sure how I found you or you found me, but WOW.   During this vision I saw you reading a book in my room and I smiled so big that I felt my cheeks ache. 

I eventually snapped out of the vision, but I hope that vision becomes a reality soon.

Disgust these days is spelled a little different,

T- for trust that's has grown sour

R-for ruthless attacks ever hour

U-for uneducated believers

M-for mindless leaders

P-for possibly the best thing that could have happened for this country.

We need to talk about these disgusting things in our past, present and future. 

We need to talk and clear up the things people grew to be use to.

Racism is a problem, a sickness created through generations.

It's something that shouldn't even be possible in any of gods beautiful creations.

Speak up, speak out and listen!

Try to understand the things you are missing.

If we don't talk we will remain in the dark.

And In the dark we will always be lost.

When we are lost we can not move in the right direction.

A flame.

Sparked in the dark and a path is revealed.

The appeal is based off the mystery but your

nerves are afraid of repeating history.

Right from left is intertwined with Left and Right.

Sweating from the heat produced by that mysterious light.

Higher and higher the flame builds exceeding expectations.

Never experienced this wonderful sensation.

The small fires in the house all have limitations, but this fire outside has expanded my imagination.

Will I run out of stuff to burn to keep this fire alive or will it died?

Honestly I could just go to the store, swipe right through all of the different light bulbs; Buy a few and try to see if they fit in my nightlight, but there is something about this natural fire. It smells different. It feels different, and it's something I had to work for. With some attention; it will continue to burn. With time I'll learn and yearn only for this breathtaking fire.

This concept is almost boring,

because this show isn’t new; Its been on the road touring.

They talk 

We talk

We know it’s a hot mess

Yet, they stress.

What’s next?

One half crying 

One half hopping from party to party 

The other half moving too fast 

One half forgetting the past

Both parties making decisions no one should ever make.

And at the end of the day they’re still waiting for that quake.

Waiting for the other to send them that txt.

What’s next?

Everyone knows.

But in the moment we’re all on our toes.

Relax.

Think strongly about this union.

Are you a cake, or an onion?

Think strongly about this you must.

We’re you the oil or the rust?

Think honestly about this relationship.

Was your goal the donkey or the spaceship?

Honesty is key because the truth shall set you free.

Don’t be ashamed, at some point everybody is just looking for some donkey.

You’re job is to own up to the truth for both parties. Not for them, but for you.

If you’re the rust, knock it off and get into the oil business.

If you are the cake, go find that icing. These onions stink. Let them greasy ass burgers deal with that.

Jeff’s right ahead of me and I’m looking down at the floor.

I hear everyone talking to me, but from the day before. 

You’re gonna cry, you’ll be alright, are you nervous, I can’t believe it.

The room is bright, I finally look up, so many faces, I try to focus on the wall, I see my cousin with his shades and a fur coat. I see my godmother. She smiles. The music is beautiful, I’m really standing at the altar.

Karen comes down and she seems like she is about to burst! 

My mother and father come to me, we rehearsed the fake kiss so I wouldn’t mess up her make up. 

My fingers are tingling. My toes are trying to spread in my Jordan 11’s. I’m getting chills, there is a breeze, but it’s an air conditioned, perfumed filled breeze. I feel like I looked down for two seconds and the wedding party is all down and I’m hugging my god daughters.

I want to look around, I do but I catch almost everyone’s eye and I can not take it! I’ll cry if I look any longer.

wow. Her hands were warm. She is never warm. 

Just what I needed to calm my nerves.

I remember how it felt.

Makes me smile thinking about it. 

I smiled and life took the off ramp to another neighborhood, it was new and I didn’t have a clue it was there. Walked up to the door, knocked, but realized it had been my home all Alone. Sitting on my new independence street, falling in love with my new surroundings. The grass was greener, the air was cleaner. My bucket list hadn’t predicted this wonderful check. I had checked into a mental rehabilitation center, each member was haunted by a ghost of there former selves. This center helped open my eyes to the possibility of positive relationships, honest relationships, lifetime relationships. This center was ran by a bar, and a few guitar solos. This center shot me out to the big time. NYC, LA, CHICAGO, HOW?

LOVE, 

And Love is so real.

Otis Redding was there. So was Prince. 

Sweet tea, trains, cigarettes and flowers. 

The beer was cheap, and the wine was fine. 

No place stands above the home of my heart.

I remember how it felt

I accepted it. Caught the ball and never planned on fumbling. 

Touchdown, onside kick, recovered. 

I was in a very familiar place, but I wasn’t playing this night. Usually had some catfish, but just wanted to enjoy the tunes and my better half this time. Greenbean blew the sounds that moved the crowd. The floor was full with each brand of life possible. 

Smoke in the air. Car? Cigarette? Reefer? 

No one knew or cared. This was a night so great, I wish that everyone else was there. I could feel the energy in the room, I felt like I was apart of a team that could win it all. No trades this season. This season was the jump start for new adventures. 

Swayed to the beat, and held on tight. Lights, colors, not a frown in sight. This was right, this was right. I wished that this was right. 

Football is fun, but basketball is life.

I remember how it felt.

Never getting a shot, but today I couldn’t miss the hoop. 

Free, unchained, unprepared.

I can hear people laughing at the idea of kissing me. I can see people passing notes in class but never to me. Everyone on this trip had one thing on their minds, and it was to break the rules, but not me. There was no way I was gonna be put in a situation that exposed my troublemaker; well of course that was what I felt before dinner.

Eyes speared a hole through my skull, I had to pretend I didn’t notice, but it was obvious. I felt wanted, it still didn’t set in till I heard that sweet voice. It was just for me, no one else. Everyone else tried, but it fell in my lap. 

I was the choice,

I was the prize,

I was the back up singer who had to take center stage, and I was ready for that. 

I felt like I was walking on the sun, unburnt. 

I felt like I had jumped in a mud pie and walked out clean as a whistle. 

I felt like I would never get caught.

Lesson learned.

I remember how it felt.

Standing in the wings.

The scene was set. I sang a new song every day, but the production never changed. People changing quick and lights flashing in their eyes. Nothing was real, it was all for the play. What more can i say, but this day John legend was the key. Whispers stir emotions that felt real, it felt like it wasn’t a play anymore. It felt like something real was coming to the forefront. Each day got better, but I wouldn’t let her know. It’s never clear where these feelings that could drown most come from. It seemed to stick around but it couldn’t; well it shouldn’t have. It was bad but why fight something that opened my eyes to the other side of the equation. 

Without this moment, life would be a lie.
