It's dying to our old self daily. We get a new life from dying not trying. Trusting in Jesus Christ as your savior is what it's all about!!

In Acts 4, Peter and John displayed a confident boldness in the Lord despite the Councils threats. Peter and John weren't living out of fear and death. Instead, they were living out of life and resurrection. We too should pray for boldness to live out God's calling. Don't be quiet, don't quit, but instead ask the Lord to help you grow you in boldness.

Revival is understanding our sin, lamenting and confessing to the Lord. Revival is a death and resurrection process. Revival happens one soul at a time and we continue to go to Jesus, who paid for our sin and rose from the dead. In Psalm 51 David cried out to the Lord when he was confronted with the sins he committed with Bathsheba. David needed God to create in him a clean heart and to restore him the joy of his salvation. God gives us grace and mercy because of Jesus Christ.

In Acts 1, the disciples have lost their way after Jesus death and resurrection. Jesus helps get them back on track by telling them that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them and they will be His witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria and to the end of the Earth. The disciples needed direction just like we do. Jesus is our compass and light in a dark world and He is the one who directs our steps and leads us.

In 1 Kings 1, David had grown old and unfortunately the consequences of not disciplining his son Adonijah have caught up to him. Adonijah knew his brother Solomon was to be the next king, but he tried recruiting people to help him take the crown. Bathsheba and Nathan brought the news to David who was unaware of Adonijah's rebellion. David's supporting cast showed up and helped get David's mind straight. As believers we need to be ready to help others reach the finish line of life.

In 1 Kings 6 the Lord came to Solomon and promised Solomon that if he observed His laws and kept His commands then the Lord would live among the Israelites and not abandon His people. Solomon knew the law, especially Deuteronomy 17 which instructed kings on how they should serve. By 1 Kings 11 Solomon had violated the law and pursued gold, foreign women and foreign gods. When we are tempted for power, money, lust, and more things that will set us apart from God, we must confess our sins and repent and turn back to Jesus.

In 1st Kings 3, God comes to Solomon in a dream and asks him to ask for whatever he wants. Solomon understood the important responsibility of leading God's people and he asked for a discerning heart to govern God's people. It says the the Lord was pleased with Solomon's ask and God blessed Solomon and gave him way more than he could have ever asked for. We tend to be trivial with our asks and we don't get in the paint with God because we don’t understand his ways however, we too have the opportunity to ask the Lord good asks that are in line with His desires for us, but we have to have a trustworthy relationship with the Lord and learn and study His Word. As we mature in the Lord, our asks will also mature.

We look to Jesus who was the perfect servant leader as He humbled himself to the point of death of the cross. If you humble yourself and serve others with all we have, like Jesus did, then God will exalt you.

Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving because He rescues us like He rescued Peter. Jesus didn't give up on Peter after Peter denied Him. Instead He showed Peter His glory and came near to him because He was loved Peter. Peter realized it was Jesus on the seashore and he hurried to Him. Jesus calls you back into fellowship with him even when you blow it. We can trust in the finished work of Jesus.

We live on a dirty earth and we need to serve one another by confessing our sin and metaphorically washing each other's feet. In Daniel 1, Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself and eat the King's food or drink the wine. Daniel understood who God was and he was not going to give his mind away. Resolve or purpose starts ahead of time and Daniel looked for ways to expand the gospel. God gave Daniel and his friends wisdom knowledge and skills. As believers, we have to be like a flagpole that is firmly planted in Christ and not like a flag that is blowing in the wind and giving into the world's desires.

Sin and Grace go together. Our sin leads us to our need for grace and our sin is necessary to understand grace. When you recognize how much you are loved by Jesus, you will want to obey Him and not sin. Grace is not a license to sin. Instead we humbly live out of the Grace of God.

Jackie Gleason was one of the funniest actors ever, but even a famous actor cannot talk / bluff his way into heaven. The only way to get into Heaven is trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross and was raised on the 3rd day and reigns now in heaven at the right hand of God.

Luke 23 tells the story of three people hanging on a cross. One criminal rebuked the other criminal and he admitted his sin and he claimed that Jesus was innocent. Jesus then told him that he would be with Him in heaven. ***The Bible makes it clear that we CANNOT earn eternal life. We have all sinned and we all fall short of the glory of God. We simply confess our sins, repent, and trust by faith that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins and we follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

In Matthew 16, Jesus foretells his death and resurrection but Peter rebukes him. Jesus spoke truth to Peter and told him to set his mind on things of God and not man. Sometimes a compliment will come and sometimes a rebuke might come, but our response shapes the growth that comes from it. Peter learned from his mistake and in Acts we see that he gave his life to following Jesus.

In Matthew 16, Jesus asks who do people say that He is and Peter answers you are the Christ the son of the living God. God opened Peter's heart so that he could understand to trust the Lord Jesus as savior. Peter had an aha moment. Just like the prophet Jeremiah, we too are to extract the precious from the worthless. Our job is to allow the Lord God to work through us in proclaiming Christ, because it is Him who opens the eyes of the unbeliever.

Jesus healed many people when He was on the earth. One of them was Simon's mother-in-law. However, the main reason He came was to fulfill God's plan for saving His people by living a perfect life of obedience on their behalf and dying for their sins. Sometimes in life we pray for healing. God may or may not heal us. Either way, our responsibility is to let the Lord work in us for His pleasure. Play the hand that you are dealt and trust that God wants to conform you into the image of Christ.

When we are born again, we see the immense love of Jesus through the righteous life He lived on our behalf and the suffering that He endured on the cross for us. Because of this, we WANT to live a holy life and avoid sin while understanding that our good works are NOT what saves us. Good works come FROM salvation, not FOR salvation. The only good works that are FOR salvation are from Christ's righteous and perfect life He lived for us on this earth.

"What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!" Romans 6:15

Peter wasn't fully ready to follow Jesus because he didn't understand the intensity of what was going on. Peter needed people who would call him out and encourage him. We need people that will call us out for when we are off and not "yes men" holding us accountable.

We must be reminded of the fact that the enemy wants to sift us. We must examine the scriptures and be alert and not major in the minor.

Peter followed Jesus but at times he wasn't alert or humble. We too can be picked off by the enemy so we must be trained in God's word, alert and confident in Christ. Peter was only one degree off, but it caused him to lose track of Jesus Christ. We must keep coming back to the foot of the cross.

Youth sports are a growing industry and Christians are taking themselves out of fellowship by missing church on Sunday morning due to games. Do we trust God with our kids? How are we going to handle the whiff of idolatry? As Christians let's look forward to Christ's return make sure we are prioritizing Church and fellowship and not sports.

As Christians we need to look at the scriptures and encourage each other in the faith. When it comes to alcohol, it can be very easy to get outside of your natural state of mind. Paul says in Ephesians 5 to be very careful how we live and we should make the most out of every opportunity because the days are evil. With alcohol we can't look for loopholes and we shouldn't model drinking to our kids. Instead we should model what it looks like to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Bible makes it clear that we should not get drunk with alcohol, but instead we should be filled with the Holy Spirit. Alcohol has the potential to alter our natural state of mind. We should think responsibly when it comes to alcohol. Our goal is to be conformed into the image of Christ and we cannot let alcohol get in the way of what Jesus will do inside of us.

The Bible is full of people who experienced seasonal changes in their life, but their faith didn't waver. Despite the fact that Joseph was thrown in prison for 13 years for a crime he didn't commit, God never forgot about him. Job lost everything but God remained faithful. Stephen was stoned to death, but Jesus showed him His glory. Seasons will change in our life, however we must not forget that Jesus is the constant who remains the same forever and ever and there is no greater foundation than Him.

As seasons change in your life, allow Jesus to continue to train you, so that no matter the circumstances, you can allow the Holy Spirit to conform you into the image of Jesus Christ.

Prayer is not about getting something from God, but it is about being changed by God so that we have the right ask and so we are refined and united with Him.

In second Samuel 24, David's pride shows itself as he takes a 10-month census to count how many soldiers he had. At the end of the census David realizes the sin he committed and how he had put his hope in the number of fighting men over his trust in the Lord. David owns his sin and falls on his face before the Lord. There were consequences, but David modeled what true repentance looks like and he ran to the Lord. As Coach Brown was excelling on the field, a backup named Harry Walls caught his attention. Harry loved the Lord and despite not playing, he greatly encouraged Coach Brown. After coach Brown's junior year, Harry left for ministry at Liberty University. Coach Brown missed Harry, but he set his sights on being drafted and going pro in The NFL. After Coach Brown went undrafted, he broke down and fell to the floor. Coach Brown remembered all the things that Harry had said and modeled and he cried out for God to take over his life. Jesus Christ changed Coach Brown and he was now adopted into God's family. God used the circumstances to reveal Christ to Coach Brown and despite being cut by a few NFL teams, Coach Brown's life was eternally changed because of Jesus.

Proverbs 21:1 says, "The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will." Our lives are like jigsaw puzzles where one piece connects to another piece, which connects to another piece, until all the pieces are connected. Sometimes we might get frustrated when things aren't working out as we think they should, but we must remember that God is sovereign and He controls all things. God directs our life and we need to be ready to move wherever He might take us. We can point people to the Lord, trust in his sovereignty and not lose it when things don't go our way.

Satan went after Job and accused him of only following God because God had blessed him. Job lost everything and he quickly went from being at the top of the mountain to being at the bottom of the mountain. We need humility no matter where we are at and God will build our character through adversity. Joni Erickson Tada became paralyzed at the age of 17 and after that, she completely relied on the Lord for everything. God has been conforming her into the image of Jesus Christ. Her mountain top might look different from what she pictured, but she is breathing in the Lord Jesus Christ and making Him known.

At the top of the mountain, the air is thin, it is windy and cold. Despite training, you can't stay at the top of the mountain for too long, so you must go back down. Spiritually speaking, we need an oxygen tank full of Jesus Christ so we are thinking clearly whether we are at the top or the bottom of the mountain. Job praised God at the top of the mountain when he had everything, but he also feared God when Satan took everything away from him and when he was crushed at the bottom of the mountain. No matter if the Lord brings you to the top of the mountain in the eyes of the world, or if you stay at the bottom of the mountain true success is when we live for the Lord through a biblical worldview.

We are all going to die, so the question is; where are you going? The Bible makes it clear that there is a real hell and a real heaven and our destination is based on what we have done with Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. For those who have acknowledged their sinful nature & repented (Romans 3:23) believe in & follow Jesus Christ, they will spend eternity with God, but for those who have not placed their faith in Jesus, they will suffer an eternity in hell because they will be judged by their sins & be found guilty. None of us know when our time will run out, but we can know where we are going because of the work that Jesus did on the cross and we can have assurance to know where we are going upon death & where we will spend eternity.

The Galatian church had forgotten who Jesus Christ was and they were trying to earn their salvation but it is only by faith in Jesus Christ that we are justified. The Galatian church was allowing the doctrine of doing good works to earn salvation. Paul corrected them and he reminded them that salvation comes from the work Jesus did on the cross and only Jesus can produce the fruit of the Spirit.

When we place our faith in Jesus, we are now one in Christ and we now serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

People who are in prison for their faith in Christ are actually freer than those in the world who are afraid to share what they believe. Freedom starts when we admit that we are a slave to our sin. A truly free man is moved by knowing that Jesus paid for our sin. God's word gives us courage because it actually exposes our fears.

In Super Bowl 27, the Dallas Cowboys were crushing the Buffalo bills, and the game was almost over. The Bills quarterback fumbled the ball and a Dallas Cowboys defender, Leon Lett, picked up the ball and ran it almost 60 yards to the end zone. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Don Beebe sprinted and knocked the ball out of Leon Letts hands right at the goal line, which prevented a Dallas touchdown. Don had the right attitude in Christ and he knew that God had called him to maximize his ability and talent and he was working for the Lord and honoring him with his play. We too can work heartily for the Lord, no matter the situation.

As long as we have breath, we still have a chance to recalibrate our lives for maximum Kingdom impact.

Later, Shimei threw stones at David and cursed him, but David remained calm and he knew that God was in control and His timing is perfect.

We must remember that God is sovereign and He works all things out for His purpose and His plans will unfold and our job is to seek Him no matter the circumstances.

2 Samuel 15 describes how David is being kicked out of Jerusalem. In the midst of the embarrassment and sadness from leaving his kingship, David goes to the Lord and he is greatly encouraged by Him. Psalm 3 details how the Lord is David's shield and it is the Lord who lifts his head high. The Lord sees our pain and our tears and we can be encouraged in the Lord just like David was. The Lord will lift our heads up when we face challenging times and we can let the Lord turn our friction into traction.

In 2nd Samuel 15, Absalom begins to strategically steal the hearts of the people so he could become King. As leaders and believers, we can't stick our heads in the sand when things get tough, and we can't take on the role of being a cheerleader instead of an umpire. Absalom took advantage of the people and his conspiracy grew. We have to hold each other accountable, we ourselves must be teachable in order to always be learning and we must be reading / studying the scriptures daily to prevent ourselves from being prideful like Absalom was.

King David's family was spiraling out of control and he had to do something with his family. As Christians, when we face tough situations we need to be people who have solutions and who are ready to act. David should have stepped up and intercepted the conflict within his family instead of leaving Absalom to plot his conspiracy for kingship.

In 1 Chronicles 12:32, the men of Issachar understood the times and they knew exactly what Israel should do. Sometimes as parents, hard things will happen in life and we need to be ready to adjudicate those things with godly wisdom. King David was not involved with his sons like he should have been. Regardless of the situation, our hope is in Christ and we can take heart and be of good cheer because Jesus has overcome the world.

As we endure suffering, we are to be joyful in the Lord in all things and make the most with our time, talent, and treasures.

Time doesn't heal all wounds. Healing comes from the Lord. Ephesians 5 tells us to live wisely and make the most of every opportunity. How do we spend our time after we have been hurt by others? We can allow the Lord to redeem our time for His glory. When we follow Jesus, we will take on numerous collisions, but we have to get back up because Jesus wants to do so much with your life. Go to the Lord and ask for wisdom and allow God to turn the friction into traction.

The commissioner, God, has given us His rule book, the Word of God, and He entrusts us to make calls of balls or strikes, and follow the rule book with accuracy. King David failed to discuss the difficult things in his family. In 2 Samuel 13, David failed to jump in and speak up when Absalom plotted the murder of his brother Amnon. Judgment starts in our home and judgment has to be dealt with at home plate. We are protectors in our homes and we live out of the confidence that we have Jesus Christ.

We can be constantly praying for our kids, but sometimes our kids might go off the path. Sometimes that's part of God's sovereignty, but we can still have hope that even if things don't look great. The game is not over yet. Luke 15 shows us the character of God in the story of the prodigal son. Even though the son had sinned greatly against his father and had used all the wealth, it says that when the father saw him and was filled with compassion for him, he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Despite the circumstances, we press on for the Lord and if we aren't dead, then we aren't done.

There are many crafty men in this world just like Jonadab who want to influence our children in negative and unbiblical ways. We are the primary Bible teachers for our kids and we need to make sure that we are maximizing the time we have with our children since the window of having them under our roof is only open for a short time. Pour into your family and don't let work or anything else lead you to being an absent dad at home. Be intentional and get into the paint with your kids, they are a true gift from the Lord.

When we come out of any type of sin, we have to move on and share what we came out of. The enemy wants us to live in the rear view mirror. In 2nd Samuel 13, David's son Amnon lustfully falls in love with his half-sister Tamar. David should have stepped in, but because of his absence, Amnon is influenced by the wicked Jonadab. The Lord wants us to steward our family well and we need to make daily deposits into the lives of our wife and children. We must go to the Word of God so we can steward our families (that have been entrusted to us) well.

In 2nd Samuel 12, David acknowledges his sin of sleeping with Bathsheba and killing Uriah and he pleads that his son would stay alive. When he finds out that his son died, David gets up, washes, eats, and goes to worship the Lord.
David recovered quickly and he comforted
Bathsheba. When you understand how much
Jesus loves you, you won't want to take advantage of Jesus. When we go out of bounds, we will want to quickly get back in the game. David modeled moving forward in life and the importance of going to the Lord.

In 2nd Samuel 12 the prophet Nathan comes to David and tells him a story about a rich man and a poor man and how the rich man came and stole the poor man's only possession, a ewe lamb. David is furious and says the rich man must die, but Nathan points out that David “IS THAT MAN!!!!”because he stole Bathsheba from Uriah and had Uriah killed. We can try to cover up our sin and run from it, but if you are a believer, your sin has already been bought and paid for by Jesus Christ. The solution is to stop running and to fall on our face before the Lord and He will take away our sin.

In 2nd Samuel 11, David continues to go deeper and deeper with his unconfessed sin of sleeping with Bathsheba. He tries to coax Uriah into coming back from war so Uriah would sleep with Bathsheba since she was already pregnant. After a couple of failed cover-ups, David finally resorts to having Uriah murdered. When we find ourselves trying to cover up our sins, we too will quickly find ourselves making unconscionable choices. The solution is to confess our sins, repent, and get back in the game.

Where do we go and what do we do when we get caught in our sin? We can't hide because God already sees it. We have to look under the hood and acknowledge our sin. As Christians we can't bench ourselves when we sin. When we sin, we don't lose salvation but we do lose fellowship with God. Jesus Christ restores our fellowship with God when we confess our sin, repent and get back on mission for His kingdom.

When it comes to sexual sin, we can either be on the side of prevention or on the side of cure. In 2 Samuel 11, David should have been at war, but instead, he allowed himself to lust after another man's wife. Instead of fleeing from temptation, David used his power to get what wasn't his. We are called to flee and run when temptation comes our way. Put a stake in the ground against sexual sin and confess your sin right away to the Lord because He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and purify us from all unrighteousness.

In 2 Samuel 5, David became a more and more powerful King and the Lord was with him. Over the next few chapters, David has a string of victories and he defeats several opponents. But in chapter 11, King Davids disobedience catches up to him and he fails the test of prosperity when he sleeps with Bathsheba and then murders her husband Uriah while trying to cover up his sin. How do we handle prosperity as believers and can we pass our own tests of prosperity? Anything that is outside of the will of God needs to be addressed in our lives and we must confess our sins directly to God since He knows all anyways.

In 2nd Samuel 2, David is anointed king over Judah. Abner who represented Israel, challenged David's men, specifically Joab, to a fierce battle as Abner was vying for leadership. As believers we can get caught up in battling our colleagues for rebound position, especially when we have a new boss or take on a new role at work. Instead of boxing out our own teammate, we should humble ourselves, die to self and serve others.

Our love for the Lord should be reflected in how we speak to others. As Christians we should honor God and be humble servants of Jesus in all things. We need to protect our hearts and minds from things that aren't godly or we will end up using our tongues in ways that are ungodly. We can't praise God with our lips, but at the same time curse people. The love of Jesus and resting on in what He accomplished for us on the cross and through His resurrection should cause us to speak words of life to everyone we come across.

Proverbs 18 and James 3 both talk about controlling our tongues. We have to put in a tremendous amount of effort in changing how we speak and it starts with godly training. We represent Jesus at all times and our mouths are a reflection of our hearts.

In 1st Samuel 20:17 Jonathan made David reaffirm his vow of friendship again because Jonathan loved David as a brother. We experience true deep friendship with one another when we do life with them, go through the highs and lows with them, and learn how to express our true feelings with them. The end goal is to be conformed into the image of Christ and one of the ways we get there, is when we sharpen one another in godliness. Also: let’s not wait till someone passes away to eulogize them at their funeral; let’s tell them now how much you love and appreciate them and how much they mean to you. It will be a tremendous blessing for the person hearing the news.

Wisdom is a skill set that we can develop through everyday training. We do this through our relationship with Jesus Christ since He is our firm foundation. In Proverbs 30, ants, rock badgers, locust, and lizards are all described as small but unusually wise, but those animals and insects teach us how to prepare, how to have a solid foundation, how to work together, and how to be opportunistic. As believers we can incorporate those things into our lives and we can develop the skill set of wisdom by spending time in God's word.

As followers of Jesus, we look to God's word so that we can have a biblical worldview for the cultural goliaths that we face.

God uses circumstances for us to be conformed into the image of Jesus Christ. In 1st Samuel 31, an Amalekite shows up and tells David that Saul is dead, but the Amalekite was lying about how Saul died in order to gain favor with the soon-to-be new King David. David mourns Jonathan and Saul's death and he determines that the Amalekite was lying and he had no respect for the position God gave Saul. God cares about our character through the ups and downs of life and we are to be conformed to the image of Christ and we must yield and give full access to God through the Holy Spirit. David was a Man after God's heart and his fellowship is new and fresh each day. In this upcoming new year -each one of us can put a stake in the ground to get back in the game for Jesus Christ.

The Prophet Isaiah predicted the coming of the Savior Jesus Christ and the conditions he would arrive under. Jesus came into oppression and evil was all around Him as He was born in a humble stable. King Herod executed all male babies 2 and under trying to do everything possible to try and kill the baby Jesus. When challenges arise because of Christ, we must always remember that Jesus left His heavenly throne to come to earth in order to suffer, sacrifice & die a brutal death & rise again for our sake and for payment of our sins so that those who trust in Him may have eternal life.

In Luke 22, the disciples disputed who would be the greatest, but Jesus said those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. The definition of greatness is turned upside down and we can't live in both the kingdom of man and the Kingdom of God. Contentment in Christ and a servant's heart is what we can strive for. In this world, we are decreasing, but in God's kingdom, we are climbing always remember John 3:30 - He (Jesus) must increase & we must decrease.

In 1st Samuel 30, David displayed an attitude of gratitude toward his fellow soldiers since the Lord had rescued the women and children that the Amalekites had taken. David realized how much he could be grateful for and he extended that to others who needed it as well. In Luke 17 when Jesus healed the 10 lepers, only one of them, a Samaritan, went back and praised the Lord. Faithfulness leads to thankfulness that leads to humility so we can see clearly.

We can be great in this world and full of pride or we can be humble and great in the Kingdom of God. In Christ, we are called to live under control with whatever we've been given and we have to dethrone ourselves daily and take the lowly humble position. In Matthew 18 Jesus tells the disciples to take the lowly position and then they would be greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. We too can take the lowly position and we can also be like the poor widow in Luke 21 who put in everything that she had for the Kingdom of God.

In 1 Samuel 30, David was in great danger as his men were very bitter about losing their wives and daughters and they talked about stoning him. David found strength in the Lord and after 400 of the 600 men attacked the Amalekites and brought back the children and women, the 400 men didn't want the 200 men to receive the plunder. But David intercepted the nonsense, and he told the men not to be selfish with what the Lord had given them. Great leaders change the wickedness of the culture and David's solution helped bring together the 600 men so they could be back on mission.

1 Samuel 30, David and his men came to Ziklag where they found that the Amalekites had burned the city and carried off the women and children. David was greatly distressed for the people spoke of stoning him, but David found strength in the Lord and he acted strategically. The Lord guided David and his men to rescuing all the women and children along with provisions. When we are in dire straights do we run and hide when it looks like all is falling apart or do we connect with the Lord like David did? We too can go to the foot of the cross and let the Lord Jesus Christ resurrect any situation.

In 1st Samuel 25 David was on the run from Saul, and he sent his men to the town of Carmel to visit with an acquaintance named Nabal. Nabal refused to help David’s men with provisions (after David & his men protected Nabal’s land / livestock). Abigail, (Nabal’s wife), quickly realized the gravity of the situation. She slyly intercepted David's man with an abundance of provisions and fell at David's feet and put Naball's iniquity on herself. Abigail recognized that the Lord and His authority was over the situation and instead of being a fool, David acted as a wise King.

In John 21, The Resurrected Jesus appears again to the disciples as they fished. Peter thought he had hit rock bottom since he denied Jesus three times, but Jesus forgave him, restored him and told him to feed His sheep. Jesus told Peter that he would die a brutal death for his faith, but Peter grew into a courageous follower of Christ and he was restored and gave his life for the Gospel.

Peter was adamant at the Last Supper that he would stay by Jesus’ side and not leave Him or forsake Him. However, Peter denied Jesus three times, and he wept bitterly before returning to being a fisherman once again. However, Jesus showed up on the shore, restored Peter and emboldened him to strengthen his brothers and get back in the game to be used mightily for The Lords Kingdom!

David's lies caused 85 priests and their families to die in the town of Nob. In Gods sovereignty, He allowed Abiathar to escape Nob and then convict David of his sins. How fast do we recover from difficulties in life? In 1 Samuel 21 David was afraid and on the run from King Saul and fear led David to bad decisions. When things spiral out of control, we can simply confess to the Lord and “own it” or fear will “kick our tail”. Eventually David confessed and his fear was turned to confidence in the Lord.

Davids life could have collapsed after his camp in Ziklag was raided but David fell back on his training and he found strength in the Lord and led his men to defeat the enemy and rescue the people. Later, David's men willingly risked their lives to bring him water but David poured out the water as an offering to the Lord. Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins and we can follow David's example of receiving God's love and pouring it out to others.

David led a small group of discredited men as Saul chased after him. Goliath moved closer to attack, but David quickly ran out to meet him. David's love for God and his training in the sheepfold prepared him to intercept Goliath and later shepherd God's people. When hard stuff happens in our lives, we can turn friction into traction and grow in Him. How will we respond when trials come our way? When we live in truth, the bad news for a believer can become good news. Joseph faced incredible challenges, but he faithfully followed God and took the bad news in his life and turned it into good news by saving the Israelites. Whatever goes into a sponge is what comes out. If we empty the sponge dry and fill our lives with Christ, He will come out when we are squeezed versus our own selfish attitudes / desires.

Jonathan was set to become king after Saul but instead he became gentle and lowly like Jesus and he sacrificed his position and paved the way for David to become the next king. Jonathan handled adversity with great humility and David handled success and prosperity with great meekness. We too can follow Jonathan and David's example of how they handled praise, prosperity and adversity. Jesus Christ must increase and we must decrease.
