Sound of freedom hit theaters July 4th and it is an independent action film directed by Alejandro Monteverde.
The story is about Tim Ballard. He is a former Department of Homeland Security agent and the founder and former CEO of Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) an anti-sex trafficking organization.
Sound of freedom tells Tim Ballard's story of his Operation Triple Take, a joint action between OUR and the Colombian government that reportedly rescued 123 trafficked people—55 of whom were children. So why are we talking about this? Sounds like a good story, right?
Well Ballard is not all he's cracked up to be. Ballard and OUR aren’t actually central to the international fight against human trafficking. The majority of the [anti-trafficking] field views them as fringe. They’re on the outs of this genre. They like to sell sensationalism…and they fundraise off it. Because Christians love that shit.

TW: Sex trafficking

Sound of freedom hit theaters July 4th and it is an independent action film directed by Alejandro Monteverde.
The story is about Tim Ballard. He is a former Department of Homeland Security agent and the founder and former CEO of Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) an anti-sex trafficking organization.
Sound of freedom tells Tim Ballard's story of his Operation Triple Take, a joint action between OUR and the Colombian government that reportedly rescued 123 trafficked people—55 of whom were children. So why are we talking about this? Sounds like a good story, right?
Well Ballard is not all he's cracked up to be. Ballard and OUR aren’t actually central to the international fight against human trafficking. The majority of the [anti-trafficking] field views them as fringe. They’re on the outs of this genre. They like to sell sensationalism…and they fundraise off it. Because Christians love that shit.

Growing up, conspiracy theories were normalized in her IBLP-cult influenced community. But 2020, with COVID, Trump, and Qanon, forced her to realize this was a broader evangelical problem that affected more than just her rapture-obsessed family.

Since then, Cynane has followed her friends and family down the rabbit hole, deconstructed from white Christian nationalism, and tried to document the process in her upcoming memoir: Taking Off the Tinfoil Hat: How Space Lasers and Lizard People Dismantled my Christian Worldview.

Nathaniel and Rachael used to be in Christian youth theater together as well as the homeschool world. In this episode we touch on weird Christian theater(obviously), white supremacy, shame, and how it all intertwines with white evangelicals. Nathaniel Bozarth is an Emmy award-winning storyteller, public historian, and data scientist. His creative work has centered around the history of residential segregation and the personal work of racial justice. This work includes a podcast (Wide Ruled) on justice in education, two documentary series about how various identities affect one’s access to “the American Dream” (Your Fellow Americans, Re:Dream), and a TedX Talk. In 2018, Nathaniel co-created an app-based tour (Dividing Lines) of the history of residential segregation in KC. In 2021, the team created a new virtual version of the tour. For more than 5 years, Lauren has taught courses in philosophy, ethics, theology, and religion for undergraduate and graduate students across the country. In her role as Program Manager for FaithTrust Institute, she develops trainings and curriculum for a variety of religious and spiritual communities and participates in investigating allegations of clergy misconduct.

Sawyers dissertation, I Stumbled/I Caused You to Stumble:White Girls and Queer Youth as Sexual Agents in Contemporary Evangelical Purity Culture, explores the longterm effects of Christian purity culture. She investigates the function of teenage sexualization as they uphold a white supremacist patriarchal norms. Lauren’s work is a detailed analysis of gender, sexuality, religion and culture.
