On this episode, Jules and Erica talk all about colonoscopies with Jules's  gastroenterologist, Dr. Eric Goldberg of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Goldberg answers:
1) Why should everyone get a colonoscopy by at least age 45, if not sooner? Who might have to get a colonoscopy sooner, including those with family history or alarm symptoms?
2) Why is the colonoscopy prep necessary? Do we really have to drink all that gross liquid? Are there other options for colonoscopy prep? 
3) What actually goes on during a colonoscopy and what is a gastroenterologist looking for during the procedure?
4) What are the risks of a colonoscopy? 
5) What happens during the recovery from a colonoscopy? 
6) How often does someone need to get a colonoscopy?

We also cover follow-up care for celiac disease, including how often serology should be done, and how often celiac patients should undergo follow-up endoscopy.

In this episode, Jules shares highlights (food lowlights?) of her recent roadtrip to the North Carolina Highland Games, where she discovered the gastronomical disappointments of a gluten-free road trip with no advanced planning. Jules "everything in moderation" Shepard steps out of her comfort zone to try fast food, and then holds Subway accountable for an up-charge on their gluten-free salads (aka "no bun bowls"). Erica also gets fired up about bed and breakfast owners not accommodating gluten-free guests with reasonable substitutions.
Jules and Erica pivot to the positive to give details about how to utilize the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), access the college disability office and dining services, and otherwise be prepared for going to college when you're gluten-free.

In this episode, Jules and Erica celebrate Sourdough September, a completely not made-up holiday that reminds you to feel guilty about that sourdough starter you grew in the pandemic but threw it away because you realize you were never going to use it.

Jules and Erica talk about the rumors that sourdough made from wheat is gluten-free (it's not), and the rumor that sourdough made from wheat in different countries is safe (it's not gluten-free either). However, they'll explain that it's easy to make gluten-free sourdough from gluten-free flour - and Jules teaches you how to make a starter and nurture it until you can use it to make bread and other recipes.

Erica and Jules also discuss breath testing for SIBO, and other mysteries of the human digestive tract that we can learn from blowing into bags.
