A Message from Screenwriter J.V. Hart:

For a $25 donation to Lionfish University the donor will recieve the very rare first draft screenplay of Hook! The Return of the Captain, by Jim V. Hart & Nick Castle. This draft was written before Spielberg's involvement or Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman. The script was developed for TriStar Pictures and was not on anyone's radar at the studio or in the industry when Jim and Nick wrote this draft. In fact every company on Hollywood had turned the project down when the head of TriStar did Nick Castle a favor and commisioned the script for a low fee. Nick and I spent the next year in Neverland and were left completely alone with no studio notes not even an executive overseeing the project. When we turned the script in, the new head of the studio read the script and immediately saw the tentpole blockbuster potential. Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman attached themselves immediately to the project and went to five directors at the same time giving them a weekend to read. One of them was Steven Spielberg.

This is the draft of the script that attracted all the talent to the production.

J.V. Hart is an acclaimed screenwriter and producer known for crafting imaginative and emotionally rich stories in Hollywood. He gained recognition for writing Hook (1991), Steven Spielberg’s beloved reimagining of Peter Pan, as well as Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It's an absolute honor to welcome the legendary director and producer Rakesh Roshan, a true icon of Indian Cinema, to the podcast. We'll be discussing his produced Netflix series, The Roshans, where he also makes an appearance.

Rakesh Roshan (born 6 September 1949) is an Indian film producer, director, screenwriter and actor who works in Hindi films.  He had appeared in 84 films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. As an actor, he was mostly known for his supporting roles in big-budget films. Later, his prominence increased, and he achieved fame for directing films with titles beginning with the letter "K" since 1987.

As a filmmaker, his work includes the action drama Khudgarz (1987), the revenge drama thriller Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), the action comedy Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), the melodramatic thriller Karan Arjun (1995), the musical romantic thriller Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), the science fiction film Koi... Mil Gaya (2003) and its sequels, the superhero Krrish film series (2006–13). All of the films he has directed have been commercially successful. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Film and Best Director for Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and Koi... Mil Gaya.

A Writers Guild of America Award winner, McBride was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. A documentary about his life, Behind the Curtain: Joseph McBride on Writing Film History, premiered in 2011.
