Kelly Smith recently completed her Honours thesis on the genetic diversity / makeup of the Mornington Peninsula koala population. The results of this preliminary research provide valuable insights into the health and ancestry of the Mornington Peninsula koalas.

Kelly is continuing her research at the Westernport Biosphere by running the Koala Awareness Program (HERE).

Zac - Introduction to EVC's

In this episode of Weeds, Seeds and Dirty Deeds, Zac discusses the basics of Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVC's).

EVC's are used within Victoria to provide a baseline when undertaking environmental restoration efforts. These EVC's help classify the type and number of flora species and abiotic elements that can be found within a particular area. Whilst EVC's are not a full description of an environment, they can be used effectively as a starting point.

David - West Melbourne Grasslands

In this episode of Weeds, Seeds and Dirty Deeds, Zac is accompanied by a Mornington Peninsula local bushland regenerator - Charlie, and they both talk to David about the Grasslands West of Melbourne.

David is an ecological consultant for ABZECO (Applied Botany, Zoology and Ecological Consulting) and an educator at La Trobe Universities Wildlife Sanctuary. Additionally, David is involved in a number of Volunteer and Citizen science projects or groups, such as the Field Naturalists of Victoria.
