Content warning: This episode contains discussion of PTSD and DID. The webcomic Let's Get Burgers contains portrayals of PTSD, intrusive thoughts, depression, and swear words/a homophobic slur.

Consider the burger: What makes up a perfect burger? Should a burger have one patty or two? What's the best cheese for a burger? Can a burger truly be meatless? Why do some people want to ruin their burger by adding tomatoes or removing pickles?

Well, Let's Get Burgers answers none of these questions, but it does feature a cat named Knife and a dog named Cheddar who try to make the most out of the mundane absurdity that is life. Whether it's dealing with jerk bosses or ugly cops, getting a new dog (that's really a Tasmanian Devil) or meeting an alien, these two wacky guys just want to get through another day and, well, get some burgers.

Now, did you know that the classic 60's hairdo the bowlcut--yes, the one worn by The Beatles, everyone's favorite gaggle of four British music guys--is not only worn by humans, but also a species of bird known as the Gloster canary? (Sure, technically, it's not a haircut for them because birds don't have hair, but you get the idea. Plus, these canaries are pretty dang stylish, bowlcut and all.)

Ah, Paris: the city of love, croissants, the Eiffel Tower, and in this story, a notorious gang known as Black Death. A beautiful youth known only as The Boy is kidnapped by a small group of would-be hooligans who themselves are trying to get into the aforementioned gang. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned and The Boy--or sometimes just Boy--ends up getting away with some help from none other than a member of Black Death, a gruff, fearsome young man (who's also a parkour specialist!) known as The Wolf.

Thus begins The Boy and The Wolf: A thrilling crime dramedy of gang violence, movie references, and haute French fashion!

Thus begins the tale of Bicycle Boy. (Well, his name is actually Poet, but we'll get to that later.

#1 (Part 1): Our Every Episode is the New Tradition

For our first episode, we're going to take a metaphorical journey to a little place called Achewood to hang out with a couple of fans -- or "chochachos", as they liked to be called -- and find out what makes Chris Onstad's webcomic Achewood such an incredible trip into the early days of Internet culture.

Cool Fact: Throughout its 15-year-run, Achewood has received recognition from a variety of different notable sources, including The Economist, The New Yorker, Small Press Expo (SPX), TIME magazine, and the Onion. THE ONION!

Not-So-Cool Fact: Being able to edit a little bit of audio in post doesn't make you a miracle worker. Yeah, when I said the audio quality would improve in future episodes, I wasn't talking about this one since, technically, it was recorded before the podcast even started. Again, apologies for the spotty sound quality in some parts and the background noises.
