In this episode, Lisa chats with photographer and hypno-coach, Grace Chon. Grace shares how she started her career in advertising and soon found herself building a creative career out of a what started as a hobby to help shelter dogs find homes. Grace has gone on to publish two books with another on the way and has an active career of shooting pets for many commercial clients. Additionally, this art has led Grace to dig deeper into her journey as healer. In this episode Lisa chats with actor, improvisor and Executive Director of Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts, Carrie-Ann Pishnak. Carrie-Ann was mainstay in the Second City Hollywood office where she worked behind the scenes for many years in marketing, producing Premium shows and taking the lead on the Really Awesome Improv Show.  Since Second City Hollywood closed it's doors, Carrie-Ann has gone on to do a number of teaching jobs and carried on bringing improv to children via the Rockin' Awesome Improv show.  Carrie-Ann shares with us the tools she uses to keep her focus on working in the creative arts throughout her life and allowed her to build such a unique and interesting career.

In this episode Lisa chats with Kris Demeanor, a musician and sometimes actor based in Calgary. Kris shares how his father taught him to be explore creative via the medium of the visual arts, but then Kris translated that creative freedom to exploring an instrument. Starting a band with his buddies as a teenager, Kris and his bandmates explored their instruments and wrote their own rules when is came to making music. Kris shares how lifestyle choices have provided for the freedom to continue to grow and explore as an artist into his middle age. In this episode, we revisit episode 39 with Emily Ziff Griffin, a writer of fiction books, essays and screenplays. Emily started her career in her early 20's assisting and then producing films with Philip Seymour Hoffman. In her mid-30's Emily came out of the creative closet and accepted that what she truly wanted to be doing was writing and creating the stories.

Her first foray into writing was her novel Light Years, which was influenced by her experience of losing her Dad to AIDS when she was 13 years old. Emily has continued her writing journey with screenplays, personal essays and in writers rooms. Emily discusses her approach to mining your core memories to produce works of fiction and the importance of knowing the "why" for each story you produce. Emily is full of insight and wisdom and this episode promises both.

In this episode, Lisa chats with successful screenwriter and aspiring author Michal Lali Kagan. Lali shares with us her creative journey which has blossomed along side a day career at Universal, as a Vice President in the credits department. Lali started working with directors and producers on incredible films, but soon found that the mental toll of working in development was taking away from her ability to be creative in her free-time. Thanks to her husband's advice and encouragement, Lali took a job in the credits department, which ended up becoming a full career. The structure of her day career has given Lali the freedom and energy to write in her off hours. Lali's most recent film, The Etruscan Smile has a successful run on the film festival circuit and helped lift up indie cinema during the pandemic.

In this episode, Lisa chats with writer Amanda Deibert. Amanda shares with us how story of how she transitioned from acting to writing for TV, which then led to writing comic books for DC, Marvel and Disney. Her writing career has extended to writing for animated shows and she was even invited to write for former Vice President Al Gore's 24 Hours of Reality. Most recently, Amanda released a gratitude journal filled with a question a day for the reader to reflect on their experiences throughout lives. This journal was the result of a series of twitter threads started from Amanda posing these questions to the general Twitter-sphere and which ended up resulting in a moving and intimate community of strangers sharing stories. Amanda is smart, funny and incredibly talented and it was a pleasure to share her journey on the podcast.

In this week's episode, Lisa chats with actress, filmmaker and producer, Keiko Elizabeth. Keiko found her way to performing via her first career as a middle school teacher. Through helping a student write and produce a play about the tragic loss of her brother to a drive-by shooting, Keiko was able to see and recognize that performance was where she wanted to focus her energy. From there Keiko got her start as an ensemble member in a community theatre production of the Wizard of Oz and soon found her way into an MFA program and the rest is history. With many incredible roles, including a recurring roles on Showtime's City on a Hill, Keiko has created quite an incredible career for herself. Keiko and Lisa chat about balancing parenting with your career, learning to listening to your intuition when deciding which jobs to go after and how branding can sometimes steer you away from leaning into your true essence.

In this episode, Lisa chats with actress and audio book narrator, Kim Niemi. Kim shares with us her story of starting her acting journey in musical theatre, only to get burnt out and leave acting altogether to try a variety of jobs including becoming a country music artist, a ghost writer and a stint working at Chili's. In her early 40's, while once again working at Chili's Kim found herself on one Valentine's evening in ER facing a cancer diagnoses.  Kim is delightful, funny, engaging and brave. She offers listeners a lot of hope and inspiration as she now uses her voice to bring awareness to Lynch Syndrome, which is a genetic condition that predisposes people to cancer.

In this episode Lisa chats with Emily Ziff Griffin, a writer of fiction books, essays and screenplays. Emily started her career in her early 20's assisting and then producing films with Philip Seymour Hoffman. In her mid-30's Emily came out of the creative closet and accepted that what she truly wanted to be doing was writing and creating the stories. 

Her first foray into writing was her novel Light Years, which was influenced by her experience of losing her Dad to AIDS when she was nearly 14 years old. Emily has continued her writing journey with screens plays, an essay and in writers rooms. Emily discusses her approach to mining your core memories to produce works of fiction and the importance of knowing the "why" for each story you produce. Emily is full of insight and wisdom and this episode promises both.

In this episode, Lisa chats with Marnie Temple an artist and former professor who found a calling to set up an artist residency in the wilderness of British Columbia after losing her husband to cancer. Marnie brings to this conversation honesty, vulnerability and her truth. She shares with us the beginnings of setting up the residency with her partner Jim, processing grief and learning how to answer the question, "What next?" after losing a partner or spouse. She also shares with us her experience of being a bi-racial woman adopted by white parents and learning as an adult to find herself again through other adult women of color. This episode does not hold back and shares so many personal truths from both women who start the episode as strangers, but end as friends.

In this episode Lisa chats with animator and visual artist Tom Addis. Although Tom had dabbled in many creative fields, he truly found his niche in animation after he turned 40. Tom shares with us how he had to overcome mental health challenges, in order to find his footing and confidence in his work and how his wife was instrumental in making that happen.  Now, in his early 40's Tom is creating his first animated short-film and opening his own animation studio with this best friend. Tom gives us all something to look forward to as we continue to age and grow.

In this episode, Lisa chats with Georgia based actor Charles Green. Charles has always had a love for acting and found some success in Hollywood in his 20's, but soon enough, he realized that he craved stability, so he made found a steady job working for the CDC and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Although Charges continued to practice his craft in Georgie, he was no longer pursuing the work professionally. In 2013, as he started to think about retirement, he considered the idea of going out professionally again, but this time around, he wouldn't have to move because Hollywood had come to him with a thriving market in Atlanta! Next thing you know, Charles was cast opposite Anthony Hopkins in a film and he hasn't stopped working since.

Along with challenging conventional norms of beauty, Sharon wanted to challenge the idea for women, that losing your hair meant that you lost your beauty and your femineity. Sharon has used her platform as an actor to demonstrate that cancer doesn't have to mean that you look sad and sick and that a bald woman is most definitely beautiful. Her story is inspiring and moving.

This week's episode features Los Angeles based actor Jordan Preston. Jordan moved to Los Angeles form New York to pursue acting at the encouragement of his buddy. However, it was longer before his buddy bailed and Jordan had to find his own way into this business without any help or any connections. His perseverance and passion for this craft have paid off, especially in the last 6 - 8 years when he started booking regularly and has started to book bigger roles, such as a series regular role in the Netflix series Narco-Saints. Jordan's enthusiasm and passion for life are infectious and will prove to be inspiring as you listen to his journey, not just in acting, but in life in general as he found his person late in life and discovered that travel and hobbies can feed his talent.

In this episdoe, Lisa chats with Monica Wyche, a New York based actress by way of South Carolina.  Monica shares with us how her acting career didn't really get started until she was in her 40s when a stranger, who saw her perform in a theatre production in South Carolina, told her that she belongs on the stages in New York. Something that about that exchange reignited a passion in Monica and so she quit her high school drama teaching job and moved to New York. Following her passion has paid off with a beautiful career in film and television. As Monica says, all the good things happened to her after the age of 40.

Michael and Lisa chat about overcoming stereotypes in the industry and using circumstances in their personal lives to inform their work. They also discuss how producing your own work can help you to comment on social justice issues and fulfill your artistic needs.

This episode is dedicated to Michael's daughter, Alana Tow who passed away on September 15, 2022. In honor of her memory, links to her memorial fund are included below.
