What do you do when the Bible seems like it is speaking directly to you? Do you take it at face value or not? What about when the Bible seems completely foreign to you? Do you ignore those parts or not?

These questions get asked throughout the Bible, but probably the most in the sections of the Bible written in the prose discourse literary style. Because of its direct communication and conversational language, the parts of the Bible written in prose discourse can seem like the parts of the Bible we should try to implement into our lives. But it only takes a little reading to see that application is sometimes more complex than it appears to be. When we build the skill of reading Biblical prose discourse, we develop the wisdom necessary to know when to apply what we read from the Bible, we understand with greater clarity when the Bible is speaking to us and when the Bible was only speaking to a particular audience, and we know when to ignore rulings in the Bible and when to hold firmly to specific commands.

Time codes:
0:00 - Intro
3:12 - Background Information
22:22 - Rep #1
40:57 - Rep #2
01:04:30 - Rep #3
01:27:22 - Rep #4
01:43:28 - Rep #5
02:07:46 - Rep #6
02:40:28 - Conclusion

Additional Background Information Video:
https://youtu.be/cOYOVEmlxnE

SOURCES:
Definitions:
https://www.ifioque.com/grammar/discourse
https://www.k12reader.com/term/prose/

Augustine quote:
https://conciliarpost.com/theology-spirituality/augustine-biblical-interpretation/

Books:
Blue Parakeet by Scot McKnight
How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart

Podcast and Other Media:
Bible Project Podcast: Episodes 1-7; 25-30;
https://bibleproject.com/podcast/series/how-to-read-the-bible-series/
How to read the New Testament Letters
https://bibleproject.com/podcast/series/new-testament-letters/
Bible Project Videos: Episodes 1-3; 13; 17-18
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH0Szn1yYNedn4FbBMMtOlGN-BPLQ54IH
Never miss interpret the Bible again!
https://youtu.be/lQLnHtWndsU

To listen to all of our skills in our How to Read the Bible Series, click below:
Poetry:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWPZ8uqLtFEE2SJQ378OWtVsQNdApX9yL
Narrative:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWPZ8uqLtFEECU8_hmByVo2ex542-Lkiz
Prose Discourse (other episodes):
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWPZ8uqLtFEGJPzkTtHHGefvG-JFm6aXp

** Skill Building Document**
Click below to download the skill-building document from our website. https://www.growingtruedisciples.com/podcast (Scroll down once you land on the page)
_____________

If you like this content, check out our website, Facebook page, and or YouTube channels.

Website:
growingtruedisciples.com

Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/Nathan-Wiggins-Disciple-of-Jesus-Christ-109754203979303/

Growing True Disciples YouTube Channel:
https://youtube.com/channel/UCsyeBBZFuN8y1XmNGmQqAHQ

The Skill Builders Podcast YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOpSmWsc12l_aU2kJXfEadA

The Skill Builders Audio Podcast:
https://theskillbuilderspodcast.buzzsprout.com

#Luke923
#1Timothy47
