Recapping the first half of a very sporty summer

Between the Oscars, March Madness, and the first two weekends of the F1 season, there are many winners to be celebrated. Oscar Piastri is not one, otherwise we would've had an even better title, but we still have plenty of good news to get into.

F1 pre-season testing has wrapped up for the 2026 campaign, as have the Winter Olympics that were staged in Milan-Cortina. Both gave us plenty to see and just as much to talk about, so that's what we're here to do. Join us as we get back into form for the new season of racing and catch up on some of the recent big stories from the world of international sports.

Whoa whoa big news in the F1 world this week, as we've witnessed feats that were 2 decades or more in the making - Lando got his first home win, Hulkenberg got his first podium, and Christian Horner received his first letter of dismissal. The Red Bull boss is OUT and we had to jump on for some quick coverage and reactions.

Lucky for all of us, we had already recorded our Silverstone EP, so this is a two-for-one and a juicy ep to keep the energy up for the summer pre-break. We have a couple weekends until the next GP, Spa on July 27th, but you'll hear from us.

Wow, that title just sounds...I don't know, but it's accurate! This week we catch up on the wet and winding Miami GP, but not before a cultured chat about the latest blockbuster "Sinners" from Ryan Coogler. We have plenty to discuss, with spring now in full swing, including playoff basketball - and another Eastern conference semifinals match-up for your favorite Boston-NYC combo.

What I mean is, this past weekend Rory McIlroy made history at the Masters by becoming only the 5th golfer all-time to achieve the career Grand Slam. And if there's ever been a time for Jake to regale us with a topsy-turvy tale of a couple legendary rounds of golf, now's the time! Join us for golf talk first, followed by a brief recap of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Cherry blossoms and dry-ass flaming grass were the scenes at Suzuka this past weekend, as Yuki Tsunoda took his first proper drive as Red Bull's #2 man and Verstappen proceeded to make us all very nervous about that development. With the defending champion back on top (but still 1 point short of Norris three races in), what did we learn in Japan and what do we have to look forward to this spring? We laughed, we cried, we talked about racecars.

UPDATE: Yuki Tsunoda has been promoted to the Red Bull seat previously held by Liam Lawson, with Lawson to drive in the vacated Racing Bulls machine going forward. Oof!!

Two races and one driver down...so far F1 has not disappointed in 2025! The teams have completed the opening two rounds in Australia and China, and we have plenty of data to crunch already. From old heads seeking new glory to young bucks trying to get in the hunt, we've got action to discuss.

One week off until Suzuka then don't forget to prep your late-night espresso shots for the late track times. With Yuki in the Red Bull for his home race, it's sure to be a cracker.

From Monaco over to Montreal, we're officially in the thick of a very exciting 2024 F1 campaign. Perhaps we'll see some passing this weekend, but honestly we're not even too worried about that - it's been exciting either way! Lots of cars raising their hands as contenders at this point, and new upgrades are rearing their pretty little front wings every weekend.  Let's see what Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve has to offer this weekend, and who will top the podium in this 9th round of the championship.

Jake has given his notice here at Track Club, as he has been hired as a formal, official Trivia host for collegiate level (Division 3) competition. His training here behind the microphone has served him well, and boy is he deeply factual if nothing else. His newly-minted trivia-host catch-phrase, which could also double as the slogan for Formula 1 itself:

"I mean, close! But what is close?"

Londo has won his first race! That's it, that's the podcast!

Updates abound here in the first chapter of this 2024 Formula 1 season! We've known about Hamilton's impending move to Ferrari and the resulting stakes on the driver market, but Adrian Newey's [confirmed] departure from Red Bull is the neweyest groundbreaking development on the grid. This likely won't have any effect on the upcoming Miami GP this weekend, which is a shame because it's a boring track and we'd love to see a strong challenge from the contenders looking to give the Red Bull a run for its money. But a race is a race (also, there's a sprint!), and this season we can almost guarantee that means excitement and intrigue all weekend.

Where will Newey end up (Ferrari), which car will receive the blessing of his technical genius (the Ferrari), and how much do you want to bet we'll get an appearance from the one and only Guy Fieri (Ferrari)??

Jake is in this week with a special report from his recent trip to Las Vegas to see the legends Phish play the Sphere. Whatever happened there has to stay there, it's true, but that doesn't mean we can't hear about it! This episode is a quickie to hold you over until later this week, when we'll catch up on some trackside news and preview the upcoming grand prix in Miami.

Another weekend of racing, and Suzuka did not disappoint! Despite a procession of tyre strategy, the swooping curves and speedy straights of the legendary track were dry and full of high speed head-to-heads this weekend. With the unfortunate news of heavy flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy earlier in the week, this weekend's anticipated grand prix at Imola was called off. Many F1 teams and participants turned their attention to relief efforts for residents of the area, with the event not being rescheduled this year, and the racing to resume next weekend in Monaco. In light of this, we sat down for a recap of how the events unfolded this week and what it means for the upcoming weeks (not much, probably.) As usual with raceless weeks, the odd topics come in strong and steady but you might just get to hear about the Duke and the Duchess.

Happy 50th! We're celebrating our pod-birthday by getting some things - many things - off our collective chest. The world is a funny place and we're just laughing in it.

Update: Celts force a game 7; fingers crossed for the Knicks

It turns out that the Miami track is actually just not an F1 track, and it turns out that the Red Bull is in fact much faster than the rest of the field. And it turns out the drivers did not love being introduced by LL Cool J before the race, and they must not have loved the track either. But F1 nation loves every race weekend because of the action, the drama, and the celebs dodging press opps with Martin Brundle like that's what they get paid to do.

Despite the souped-up Sprint weekend format, the techpro walls of Baku's castle contained all chances of excitement or intrigue on track. The season is on and the Bahrain Grand Prix showed us exactly what to expect in 2023: Max's clear dominance in the Red Bull, Ferrari's struggle to make it over the line, and a development battle that will create new on-track rivalries every week in the midfield. A new season is upon us! With the teams officially returning to the paddock this past weekend for preseason testing, we've got plenty to discuss before the season opener back in Bahrain. Who looks fit on track, whose offseason drama will spill over into race weekends, and who will fall victim to the development woes that turn early dreams into long nightmares? Only time will tell...but we'll be here every week to analyze, socialize, and proselytize for your listening pleasure. 

In this one - we do some F1 trivia and luckily it's so easy! But it gave us an excuse to talk about Ford v Ferrari, cats' poo v dogs' doo, books v Beyoncé, and the way the rest of the world sees America. Just another day here at Track Club.

The one where Jake and Khalil find something to talk about besides Formula 1. We ended up touching on the recent collapse of crypto exchange FTX - leading down a path of corruption, financial/gambling advice, and Cracker Barrel. No Formula 1 season is complete without a thorough and enthusiastic recap from the Track Club team. This week, ahead of our season review, we bring you an episode with almost exclusively useful information! Jake kicked the Khalil out of the car on this one (jk, scheduling) in order to break some big Ferrari news and plant some spicy rumors while he's at it. If you come to this podcast seeking actual F1 news, this is the time to listen.

We'll be back next week with a good chunky full-length to cover the entire 2022 season - highs, lows, shocks, and gridwalks - and to briefly take a peek at the season ahead. But first, enjoy this quickie from your friends here at Track Club (again, just Jake).

And with that, the 2022 Formula 1 season comes to an end - Max the champion driver, Red Bull the champion constructor, and you the champion friend of Track Club. This ep is a look at the finale in Abu Dhabi, which saw SuperMax take home his 15th grand prix of the season along with the overall #1, and Leclerc outpace Checo for #2 in the standings. Sebastian Vettel said goodbye to F1...as did Mick and Nic...but WE won't be going anywhere! Just like Danny Ric we can't get enough and you can't get rid of us.

Back on track! Even though we never really left, the F1 summer break left a gap in everyone's weekend and Spa was a great race to come back to. Most of the things we thought might change did NOT change - Max still wins from anywhere on the grid, and Ferrari still throws positions away like a used pair of super-hard Pirellis in the wet. But there was plenty to talk about, and we're sure that this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort will not disappoint either. This week we get right to it with a "live episode" recording, diving into the very exciting Austrian Grand Prix. It seems the front-runners just can't have it all this season - Leclerc finally returned to the top of the podium while his teammate's car was returned to the garage in ashes. Verstappen did not finish in first as expected while his teammate did not finish at all. Hamilton snagging P3 continued Merc's fight to be a real contender this year. Racing fans in particular will enjoy this episode, and next week's break in the calendar will mean more fun topics plus Khalil's review of the Formula E-Prix in Brooklyn, NY (July 16-17). The British GP was arguably the most exciting race of the season thus far, with start-to-finish action and a first-time grand prix winner in Carlos Sainz! We witnessed the life-saving halo at work, a hometown champ's return to form, and a bad pattern continue for one of our frontrunners (spoiler alert: it's Leclerc).
