With Everwild happening this weekend, we thought it was the perfect time to catch up with the Cleveland band that started it all, Tropidelic. They reflect on the time when it was a simple pool party to the amazing event it is today, attracting thousands of people to Legend Valley in August each year.

Joining us at Rock and Roll City Studios opened a floodgate of memories for the founder of the band, Roads, of when the band was still in its early days. He advises to keep pushing through any difficulties to get to that 10-year milestone when the results of your labor really start to show. These guys laid heavy groundwork to get to this point, from making waves before and after sets, to showing up at the RNC to cause a commotion. They are entertainers first and foremost, but we are also proud to call them Clevelanders.

She, with the help of Pop Shell Studios, The Room, Korey Smerk and yours truly, organized and executed an awesome event back in April to boost awareness of Post Saga's new music dropping on July 27th.

We started it off HOT with talking about the Civil War in this episode with Fruitfly! And it only gets better from there. Since their debut album "Running on Fumes" in 2021, Fruitfly has been evolving and recontextualising their sound, and now their second album "When the Weather is Nice" will be releasing April 12th!

In this episode, we chat about the upcoming album and tour that will be following, and have a business proposal for a Fruit Ninja sponsorship. RC3, who you may remember was a guest on our episode with ZuP a few months ago, and we had such a great time we had to invite him back to talk more about his experiences this past year as a DJ for the local hip hop scene and playing his own mixes, too! In his words, he's been a pain in the ass his entire life and staying true to the brand, so this was naturally a very fun episode to record.

Then we get a little deep and talk about his newly released track with ZuP and James Begin, "Glizzys", and how he has found himself on a mental wellness journey that has inspired a new mantra.

We also get deep on that fact that life is a comedy. Sometimes a dark one, but still a comedy nonetheless. We’re cheers’ing to feeling New Years-y and looking forward to the “things we’ve always said”.

We have upped our podcasting game big time with some more visual elements (check out our YouTube) and an amazing technician working behind the scenes, Danna O'Connor of Post Saga. To kick it off in this new realm, we were joined in the LG Studios by Marcus Smith and The Rapscallions and we also spill our drinks twice (and a third time before we even started recording).

Marcus Smith aka The Sandwich King of Cleveland has been involved in the local music scene for quite some time, and is adored by many people in the city. We show a lot of love to some mutual friends between us and discuss the success of his most recent full length album, Unique Mélange (one song from which has an amazing story involving blowing Ben Folds's mind). We also may have just saved Rock N Roll??

Of course, it's not a true Marcus Smith episode if we don't get into a discussion about sandwiches (Urban Twine - if you're listening, please bring back the Marcus Smith). This episode is completely out of control from start to finish and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

The guys also give us the ins on the best places for Jam Nights in the city and how after meeting 9 years ago at a Jam Night they are still going strong and finding creative pockets that they haven't adventured down before together.

Ep. 48 - Musical Therapist Consultation with KDIN

House, pop, acoustic artist KDIN joins us in this episode, just 2 days after dropping his full-length album "Naked in Nature" which was released under his label Flip a Billion Records. We get to hear the stories behind the process of making the album this year and collaborating with the talented and eccentric Gary Martinis for song writing and shooting the album artwork.

Shifting into a new realm next year, KDIN has more songs on the horizon, including an album for the Green Thumbs and their pet plants out there. Crib Collective is a group so near to our hearts and this chat was a LONG time coming let us tell ya. First we get to the nitty gritty and settle the dispute that Apple Music is to Spotify as Androids are to iPhones - change our minds. Next, we unpack their iconic 2:30am performance at LG Live this year.

Crib Collective is a hip hop group in Cleveland with each member having the ability and confidence to show their unique sound and personality in every intricate song. We unpack how these songs are written and the ego you must set aside to have that great song as well as how the Collective got together in the first place. Also shoutout or not shoutout their neighbors, who were the inspiration for their debut album that dropped earlier this year, 605.10 (streaming everywhere, check it out).

Our ADHD taps in with Hunter Rose in this episode. The passion, the energy, the CRYING. It’s all here and more. From Huron and studying in Akron, Hunter Rose (formerly Huntie G) is a solo female artist who re-emerged this year into the Nu Metal / Dark Contemporary music scene. We go Deep in the Discog to have her comment on her journey that has ultimately landed her on this unique sound that not a lot of young women are doing right now. As a solo artist, she plays keys, guitar, drums, and vocalizes on top of producing most of her songs on her own.

This lively conversation goes quickly with lots to be uncovered such as feeling what you’re writing and making, the fun keyboard settings we used to mess with when we were kids, and what life would be like without autocorrect. On top of her music, Hunter is also studying to be a therapist and is a huge mental health advocate, which is showcased in a lot of her music. Also, she’s a 3D printer, gamer, and streamer, NBD.

It’s been a year and a half since we caught up with Tall Grass via IG Live and since then, this group of four have spent the last year gigging around the city, cooking up an album, and are sculpting what started as Midwest Emo vibes into the highly-sought-after-but-difficult-to-pull-off Lawnmowercore. With an Instagram refresh and debut full-length album "Monarch Butterfly" dropping this month, these guys are ready to show Cleveland who they are.

In this episode, we chat about the power of the capo, grandmas and Paul McCartney, and how real musicians can pat their heads and rub their tummies. We also show some love to The Rialto in Akron and to the studded belts from middle school so we could always be jingling no matter what.

Over the last 3 years, Cat has gone through a lot of pain, but with that pain has come some powerful music sung by a confident woman. From Zoom Calling Kelly Clarkson to being put through the most ridiculous lawsuit, Cat tells us some stories that are almost too crazy to believe, yet are 1000% true and 1000% wild.

Cat Calabrese harnesses these feelings from her past and puts them in her music while finding a balance of reflecting and moving forward. We also talk about the importance of recognizing success where it is and not being so hard on ourselves. It was truly an honor to finally catch up after over a year of planning this interview!

Our first jam band in the studio, we had a lot of questions for the guys, and lots of bases to cover. We chatted about verbal and non-verbal communication, when do we improv and how much, and learning the rules before you break them.

Camel Butter was also fresh off playing Nelson's Ledges for the very first time, and it was definitely one to remember! The ~jar of wonders~ made a special appearance in this episode as well, where we learned the nicest thing someone has ever done for Yan.

ZuP also brings DJ Dick on the mic, who started as a fan back in the day and now accompanies him in his performances as well as other artists in Cleveland. In this episode, we sat down with Cleveland hard rock, alt metal band TRUSS!
Rewind - we had Hannah in the studio for our 2021 LoCLE Grown Marathon but this time we had the pleasure of chatting with the entire band. TRUSS gave us the inside scoop on all the SICK shows they've been playing, (a ton out of state, so cool) in which they all ride in the latest edition to the band, the TRUSS bus.
They also confirmed they stan by Nickelback. Same.

Ep. 34 - r/Unc D

We got slightly out of hand with the autotune that Unc D hooked up to the mic. In this episode, we explore the phrase in which he has now coined called "Mumble Jazz" and cover his next album dropping in September - "MMBLJZZ: WTF is MUMBLE JAZZ !?". Unc D is a contrarian at heart and pushes beyond the boundaries of the Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop realms with his music. Due to this, critics will either love or hate it, which he addresses in our chat.

Unc D also speaks on his utilization of the Reddit forums to spread word of his music and a very crazy paranormal run-in at a recent gig. Sidenote: Jurbz's sneeze is so quiet she disrupts the entire episode. In the end, we try a little Autotune Karaoke - something Unc D does towards the end of each of his gigs - and it is quite the spiritual experience.

Rent for Cheryl is a passionate band with members who have diverse musical styles, and when they come together on stage, they bless your ears with a fusion of jazz, rock, blues, pop - whatever the vibe calls for - they match and exceed. In this episode, we get a very rare acoustic performance from them at the end, but not before we discuss writing songs vs free styling, the amazing Rialto theatre, and the indisputable fact that DRAGONFLY IS AN OXYMORON???

From Akron, OH, Rent for Cheryl has been migrating more into the Cleveland sector with an upcoming performance next month at The Beachland Ballroom and will be releasing three singles leading up to this show at the end of August.

Happy Father's Day! Coincidentally, on Mother's Day weekend last month, we switched it up by catching a chat with Kind Of Consistent founder, Riley Furey. Kind of Consistent (KOC) is an organization based in Cleveland that started as a source to share great music and deep cuts but over the past year has grown into a music blog, merchandise and production company not only for Cleveland musicians but also bands outside of the state.

Riley gave us insight into the KOC brand and who has inspired him to take this dream to the next level. We also discuss Laurel Live vs Wonderstruck, and of course had to highlight some of his top picks when it comes to Cleveland musicians and why (peep Episode 24 with Jack Harris btw). As LoCLE Grown, we really resonate with the KOC brand as both of us are all about providing a platform and resources for artists who are still finding their voice. While KOC has many facets, Riley is at the point where he is "calibrating the perfect storm" and musicians anywhere can utilize him for promotion, events, production and merch so HIT HIM UP. But also, make sure to gently shame him for not knowing "Where's the Chaptstick"...

WELCOME TO SZN 3! We are absolutely stoked to be in our VERY OWN SPOT this season at Rock & Roll City Studios in Cleveland! We are really doing the damn thing, folks. If you haven't seen the studio yet, please check it out on our Instagram and let us know what you think!

We kicked off the season and this ~new vibe~ with our boys from Cleveland, C-Level! Listen in as we discuss how every city has a "cave venue" (Cleveland's is, of course, the Grog Shop), the traits of a good producer (hint: it's PATIENCE), and the beauty of DIY's & Open Mics (both the events and the opening song on their newest album called Think for Yourself).

Think for Yourself is out NOW and is truly a "communal album" featuring lots of amazing artists including Lea Marra, Cellophane Jane, and The Quasi Kings! These are some of the artists who worked with C-Level through 2020 on fundraisers and creative shows through the pandemic - but you can hear more on all this by tuning in!

BONUS Episode: LoCLE Grown LIVE at Crobar!

Ayyy SURPRISE we have one more episode for you before we wrap up the year! It's a day before Thanksgiving as this is releasing and we wanted to say how thankful we are for everyone who has listened and supported LG this year. When our first episode dropped in April, we had no idea where this would go next. Putting together a marathon that was supposed to be on the radio and ended up becoming our entire second season was one of the best things that could have happened to us and we are SO EXCITED for even more shenanigans in 2023!

After the marathon on 8/18, we were asked by our friend Mikey Silas to do a live recording of the podcast at Crobar in Cleveland on 9/6. This has not been done before at Crobar, nor have we done this before in front of an audience and with our own equipment. We recruited two artists who we thought would be great for this show, Corry Michaels and Dragaan. Both brought their A-game and the live audience loved it as much as we did!

Then, to top it all off, we chatted with the new owner of Crobar, Gerad Gudhe in an impromptu interview where we get to learn more about the underground bar itself and the ideas behind it and looking ahead. One thing here: please forgive us for the technical issues that ensued in these last 10 minutes. We ain't saying we're perfect by any means!! Not yet at least...

We are truly honored to have made as many connections as we have this year, while hopefully making people smile and learn some new music that's close to home! We will see you next year with a bigger and better season and artists you're going to absolutely love!

Closing us off for the day is experimental hip hop artist Kwas-E and shout out to this guy for holding down this interview while we were absolutely zonkers by the end of this 14-hour streak of interviews and performances. Here, we reminisce about youtube to mp3 converter websites and tie dye eye contacts. We also run through his recent releases including a lyric video, and his latest EP Birds of a Feather.

For real, guys, this was an awesome experience and as Jurbs puts it best, it was "all pretty damn good". Keeping the energy going, we sat with The Rosies at 7pm for the LoCLE Grown Marathon. These guys are bringing Lake Erie Surf Punk BACK, BABY (oh, you didn't know we had Surf music in Cleveland? Look up The Euclid Beach Band). In this one, we learn about how the band literally started from scratch and hadn't even played their instruments before coming together and we uncover some things that others in the band didn't even know! Among other things, tequila, surfing, and performing with personal heroes comes up in the discussion as well. This was an awesome time, and we hope you enjoy it, too!

Who Saved Who from Cleveland is a group of 4 rad dudes who clearly hate each other as it is evident throughout the entirety of this interview. In the 3pm hour of the LoCLE Grown Marathon, they joined us to talk about their album that was released earlier this year, "Sharing the Daytime Moon", as well as what it was like to finally have the band where they wanted it to be in with the right members in the right place. This was a big year for the band, where they performed at Brite Winter Fest and joined Cleveland Verses Vol. 4 in their AC/DC tribute album. Gavin tells us all about the most unique guitar we've ever seen, one he (with the help of his family and friends) made by hand to represent the long line of history within his family (check out his full-length documentary on YouTube). Then, he proceeds to play said guitar with the talented other half of Black and Coe, Reese Black! We have never been so happy hearing the blues.
