What if some of the stories people tell about the moments surrounding death are more than stories?

In this fascinating episode of God-Sized Stories, Patricia Holbrook sits down with J. Steve Miller, a writer, professor, researcher, and longtime student of questions surrounding faith, death, and the afterlife.

Miller describes himself as naturally skeptical. Rather than simply accepting claims about near-death experiences, he began investigating the research behind them—and what he found led him much deeper into questions about consciousness, the supernatural, God, and life after death.

Miller teaches courses in religion and death, dying, and the afterlife at Kennesaw State University, and his research has examined decades of studies surrounding near-death and deathbed experiences. His book Near-Death Experiences as Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven grew out of that research.

Perhaps the most important question isn't simply what happens when we die.

It's whether we are ready for what comes next.

Patricia and Steve close the conversation by turning our attention back to Jesus, Scripture, and the hope of eternal life.

As I prepared for this episode of God-Sized Stories, I couldn’t stop thinking about the long list of unlikely people God used throughout Scripture—murderers, prostitutes, adulterers, cowards. People whose résumés would never pass a background check today. And yet, these are the ones God chose to accomplish His most glorious work.
