1) We are called to think about Jesus all the time and to expect His appearing from heaven (Titus 2:1-15).

A) If you expect that Jesus could come at any moment are you prepared to meet Him (Revelation 2:4-5)?

B) Waiting upon the Lord should be seen as active preparation for His arrival (Luke 12:34-40).

C) Active preparation should lead to a purified life and Biblical maturity (Hebrews 10:22-31).

2) We should be active in using our resources, talents, abilities and time to further the good news of Jesus Christ (Luke 19:11-27).

A) Jesus has set us free from sin and death. We should run the race of faith as one looking to claim the medal (Philippians 3:7-21).

B) The desire to win the prize requires discipline in training. It requires the participant to fight through personal discomfort and pain, and they can never loose sight of the end goal (I Peter 4:1-19, I Corinthians 9:24-27).

C) Think of your Christian journey as a spiritual race that requires strict spiritual training (I Timothy 4:1-16).

3) Seven key doctrinal positions to rally around as Christians.

A) God in 3 persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

B) Jesus is fully God and fully human.

C) Man is not saved by works but rather by faith in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection.

D) Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father where He now intercedes on behalf of the believers.

E) The Bible is the inspired inerrant Word of God.

F) All humans are sinful and are in desperate need of redemption.

G) Jesus will return to judge the world and to establish His kingdom upon the earth.

C) We must be so content with our connection with Jesus Christ that we are able to accept loss and gain with the same attitude (Job 1:20-22).

2) The World, the flesh and the Devil war against our mind (1 Peter 4:1-11).

A) We must come into the light of Christ and let Him reveal what needs to be corrected in our lives, our behavior, our attitudes, our passions, our direction in life (Hebrews 12:1-29).

B) We must re-align our thinking away from worldly philosophies by continually absorbing Biblical truth (II Corinthians 10:3-6).

C) Unity in the Holy Spirit and Spiritual maturity should be goals for Christians to pursue (Ephesians 4:1-32; 5:1-20).

3) The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16).

A) Prayer is the most practical and effective habit one can develop and depend on (I Thessalonians 5:16-21).

B) Pray with thanksgiving and with a pure heart (Philippians 4:4-9).

C) When you do not know how to pray, pray the promises of scripture over your life and others (II Corinthians 1:3-11).

Discussion Question: Prayer involves listening as well as speaking. Why is scheduling a daily prayer time so important to our Christian journey?

Season 4 Episode 8: Those Who Follow Their Heart Will Continually Live in Deception

1) Jeremiah 17:9-10, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I, the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
A) God does not respond well to selfish ambition (James 4:10).
B) God grants grace to those who are humble (James 4:6-7).
C) There is one lawgiver. We are not it. Appeal to Him in all things (James 4:11-12).

2) The steps of a righteousness man are ordered of the Lord (Proverbs 16:9).
A) Commit your plans to God and purpose to please Him in all you do (Proverbs 16:1-4, James 4:13-17).
B) We will sleep better at night when we trust Him with the future and no longer feel the pressure to control every circumstance of life (I Peter 1:3-7).
C) God is going to do what pleases Him and He watches over His Word to make sure it remains true (Proverbs 19:21, Ephesians 1:11, Jeremiah 1:12).

3) We have not because we ask not or we ask with wrong motives (James 4:1-3).
A) We must not ask for anything that does not align with God’s Word (Matthew 6:5-18, I John 5:14-15).
B) We need to use our freedom in Christ to bring Him glory. (I Corinthians 10:23-31).
C) Christ set the example of humility for us to follow (Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 23:1-39).

Discussion Question: What steps of righteousness are we required to perform each day to keep a pure heart before Jesus Christ? How did He keep a pure heart before His Father?

A) Fulfill your promises to God or do not make any (Ecclesiastes 5:1-7).
B) We must be quick to listen and slow to speak (James: 1:19-24).
C) When you claim to know what is true and instruct others, you will be judged accordingly (James 3:1-12).

2) True repentance is the vomiting of the soul (1 John 1:8-10).
A) We must grow to love Jesus more. That means losing our attraction to material things, worldly systems, and a love for power, position and prestige (I John 1:15-17).
B) Jesus is the only Lord and King we need. Flee the desires of the flesh and what Satan promotes as valuable: pleasure, money, power, position, and easy living, lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life (I Timothy 6:11-21).
C) Repentance is a cleansing of the soul (II Corinthians 7:9-13, Acts 3:17-26 - promise to the jew about Jesus).

3) A declaration of faith in Jesus without fruit of righteousness (obedience to Jesus) is a false declaration (John 14:15-21).
A) Jesus is so gracious… He saved a thief on the cross for his simple recognition of Him as Lord and Saviour (Luke 23:32-43).
B) You will know a tree by its fruit. We are called to be fruit inspectors (Luke 6:43-49).
C) Be a doer of the Truth and not just someone who recognizes what he knows to be true (James 1:22-27).

Discussion Question:
Why is it that we do not trust in the blood of Jesus to cover our sins for perfect righteousness, or why we do not ask the Holy Spirit (whom Jesus sent in place of Himself) to help us walk out the perfect Christian life in righteousness in an imperfect Christian world (Hebrew 10:1-39, John 14:1-27)?

Season 4 Episode 6: Does God Give Us More Than We Can Handle?

1) God does His best work in us at the bottom of the barrel because internally we have no choice but to trust Him.
A) God does not need human strength or effort to express Himself. He is more than capable of using us when we are not aware!
B) God uses stupid people to frustrate intelligent people (I Corinthians 1:18-31).
C) We have to accept whatever and wherever God has placed us. Trust Him to be true and every man a liar (Romans 3:1-20).

2) When you are in trouble, keep your Bible open and your heart and prayers directed at Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30).
A) God is not asking you to be perfect. Be faithful. Be committed to the process/the journey of growing and learning (Psalm 119:105).
B) God will never give up on us. We give up on Him because we allow Satan to steal our hope for the future (Isaiah 40:31, Joshua 1:7-9, II Corinthians 4:16).
C) Purpose to be content wherever God place use you (Galatians 4:4-13).

3) It is a dangerous position to think you are capable of being an oracle, and interpreter of God’s Word. Point people to scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to teach. Push your ego aside.
A) Remember you are fleshly in nature and not spiritual. It takes intentional purpose to be Godly. It is a daily step by step process and not an overnight experience. Daily commitment/alignment to scripture (Romans 12:1-2).
B) Something that appears supernatural most likely is not. Satan can duplicate the miracles of God (II Thessalonians 2:9-12, Matthew 24:4-13, II Timothy 3:1-9).
C) Satan is super gifted in appearing to be like Jesus. Just like the Anti-Christ that is to come. He is and will always be a Christ Imposter (II Corinthians 11:14, II Thessalonians 2:7-12).

Discussion Question:
With all the weight of evil pressing against the world, how do we have hope as Christians? (John 16:33, Isaiah 43:1-2, Psalm 46:1-11).

Season 4 Episode 5: What is Saving Faith?

Saving Faith should be accompanied by deeds of Godly righteousness.

1) We must place our faith in Jesus Christ and allow Him to cover our sin debt with His righteousness.
A) Jesus has set us free from sin and death. We are no longer in bondage to sin (Galatians 3:11-14).
B) Satan is creating a sense of lack and hopelessness in our lives. He wants to keep us with a feeling of guilt and a prisoner of our past failures.
C) The Holy Spirit creates conviction in our life in order to draw us closer to Jesus Christ. Satan desires for us to carry the full weight of our sin. (John 21:15-25).

2) Jesus is the Lamb of God and the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-18).
A) Jesus looks for the one that has wandered off and is alone, vulnerable, uncertain, crushed in spirit (Matthew 18:10-14; Psalm 34:18).
B) The more we depend upon Jesus and His Word, the less anxious we become. We no longer feel the pressure of controlling every aspect of our lives (Psalm 23:1-6).
C) We can do a lot of good things in the name of religion, but do we really know the voice of Jesus? Are we connected to Him. Is Jesus alive inside of us (Matthew 7:21-29)?

3). A confession of faith in Jesus that does not produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit is a faith that is not transformational (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:13-26).
A) A follower of Christ who says he knows Him but does not do what He says is a liar (I John 2:1-6).
B) Whoever claims to love Jesus and hates his brother is a liar (I John 4:7-21).
C) One who follows Christ should carry the same attitude of Christ. His fragrance should let people know that are close to them (I Peter 4:1-11).

Season 4 Episode 4: Jesus Greater Than Moses: Why the New Covenant Changes Everything

1) Jesus has been found worthy of a greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of the house has a greater honor than the house itself (Hebrews 3:1-6).
A) Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:1-10).
B) The Law of Christ is to love God with all our being first and then to love others as ourselves (Mark 12:28-34).
C) When we were under the written code, we operated in the realm of the flesh. Now we serve in a new way through the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:13-26).

2) For if there has been nothing wrong with the first covenant, no place would have been sought for another (Hebrews 8:6-13).
A) The old sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, but it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin.
B) When Jesus Christ came into the world, He came to fulfill the will of His Father in heaven, and now animal sacrifices for sins are no longer necessary (Hebrews 10:14-18).
C) Jesus is the seed of promise given to Abraham. The law was brought in as a guardian until Christ came so now all mankind can be justified by faith (Galatians 3:19-29).

3) The finished work of Christ is what saves us and not our works of righteousness.
A) Saving faith should produce fruit of righteousness through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 7:13-28).
B) Did you come to faith in Jesus Christ by following the law or by placing your faith in His finished work on the cross? (Ephesians 3:1-13).
C) Man has two choices when they die. They can be judged by their own individual works or righteousness or they can allow the High Priest, Jesus Christ, to make an atonement for their sins.

Discussion question: Does a praying a prayer of salvation actually save you? How can you be sure that Jesus Christ is alive inside you and that you are the temple of God?

2) We can spend as much energy on getting right before the Lord as we do being hateful and vindictive to others.

C) Our feelings are not “the truth.” They simply reveal our comfort level in life at a given moment.

A) We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).
B) Paul encourages us not be anxious about anything but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving.

C) There are no insignificant places in life and no insignificant details of life (Genesis 50: 19-21, Psalm 139).

2) Uncomfortable circumstances, tension and pressure creates intensity of purpose.

A) Failure in life is not fatal unless you allow it to be (Philippians 4: 6-7, I Peter 5: 7, Matthew 11:28-30, John 14:27).

B) Jesus always confronts the sin issues of the heart regardless of how uncomfortable it is (John 4: 1-19, Matthew 19: 16-26).

C) Make the most of each opportunity, for the days are evil (Hebrews 9:17, Ephesians 5: 15-20, James 4: 13-15).

3) Jesus is stronger when we are weak. He is close to the broken hearted.

A) A person with nothing to offer in life has to completely depend on God to have something (II Corinthians 12: 10).

B) When Satan brings to memory past failures, surface memories of God’s faithfulness instead (Lamentations 3: 22-23)

C) Brokeness is the off ramp on the highway of self-pursuit so God can redirect purpose and passion (Psalm 34: 18).

Season 4, Episode 1: Can You Rejoice in Troubles and Struggles?

James, the author, the half brother of Jesus, the pastor of the first church in Jerusalem wrote to Jewish believers who were scattered abroad. This was most likely due to persecution (Acts 6 - 9).

What are the main objectives of the book of James? “Wisdom literature of the New Testament” and “Practical Christianity.”

1) Saving faith in Jesus Christ is revealed through daily habits, behavior, conversation.
A) Rejoice in the Lord always. Negative worship is complaining and grumbling.
B) Be slow to speak and quick to listen. A non-Holy Spirit restricted tongue quickly leads to sinful activity.
C) A wise person demonstrates it by a lifestyle/deeds that display the humility of Jesus Christ.

2) Believers are to fight the good fight of faith regardless of persecution, adversity, and ever changing circumstances.
A) Pray continually in all circumstances and ask for Godly wisdom.
B) Trust and know the future belongs to God.
C) Spiritual maturity is developed by seeking God everyday in the journey whether it is bad or good.

3) Faith apart from action is dead. Christians are called to be doers of the Word not just hearers of the Word.
A) A Christian is called to be holy and to keep oneself pure from worldly desires.
B) Seek Christ and He will come near to you.
C) Sin is not doing the good we are Biblically called to do.

Season 3 Episode 10: Spiritual Warfare

Ephesians 6:10-23

1) Our struggle is not against flesh & blood but against rulers, against authorities, against powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces in the heavenly realms.

A) Endure hardship like a good solider. Do not get entangled in earthly things but aim to please your commanding officer Jesus Christ (II Timothy 2:4-7 Mathew 6:19-24).

B) Christians operate from a position of victory because of the finished work of Jesus Christ (I John 4:4 & Colossians 1:9-23).

C) Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Christians are called to engage in spiritual battle. When you chose Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you have aligned yourself against the Devil (Philippians 4:10-13).

2) Satan’s main goal is to divide and conquer and create isolationism. Separation of Christian fellowship and daily communion with Jesus Christ is how the Devil achieves victory in the life of the believer.

A) Satan is quick to recall past failures. Past behaviors can be an indicator of future activity but that does not have to be for a Christian. A Christian should become a new creation in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17-20).

B) Only the Holy Spirit can change hearts and minds (Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 5:16-18, Romans 8:9-11).

C) Evil is captivating and an idle mind can be easily led astray. Guard your imagination (eye gate & ear gate). What kind of entertainment and conversations are you attracted to (Philippians 4:4-9)?

3) The Word of God and prayer are the Christian’s offensive weapons.

A) The Truth of God’s Word cuts through the confusion and the arguments of the Evil One (Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 119:105).

B) It is never too late to start praying and it is always too early to quit praying. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions. Pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:16-18 & John 15:5).

C) Prayer is more than a weapon. Prayer is how the Christian engages in warfare. Christian battles are won in the prayer closet (James 4:3).

Season 3 Episode 9 Godly Living within Our Family

Ephesians 5:21-33

1) Submission, humility, gentleness, patience, and respect are attributes of Christian living for those who have made Jesus Christ Lord of their lives.

A) Jesus laid down His life for the church and the church submits to His leadership and authority.

B) The wife submits to the husband’s authority and leadership while the husband is obligated to cleanse his family through the washing of God’s Word.

C) We are obligated to serve Christ in purity of thought, conversation, purpose and behavior in every situation, regardless if someone else notices or not.

2) The unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth in God’s sight (1 Peter 3:1–7).

A) Godly leadership is a heart issue and not a title or a position earned. A leader is apply knowledge.

B) Man looks at the outward appearance, God examines the heart. To obey is better than sacrifice (I Samuel 16:7, I Kings 2: 1-4)

C) A man is supposed to protect his family, his wife, his children, from the devices of Satan’s goal, which is to divide and conquer, separate and destroy. The husband should be the tip of the spear spiritually for his family.

3) Once you make a decision to serve Jesus Christ and to get serious about righteousness, Satan gets serious about setting up obstacles of temptation and adversity in your life.

A) A Godly man guards his steps and his heart. He comes near to God to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools (Ecclesiastes 5:1-7, 1 Samuel 15:22-23).

B) Christians are called to protect the unity of Christ among fellow believers. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteousness and His ears are attentive to their prayers (I Peter 3:8-12).

C) A Christian is called to be holy in a pagan world. By righteous living, a believer can silence the talk of ignorant people (I Peter 2:11-25).

Why is mutual submission so important in the “Body of Christ”? Can you share an example of Biblical submission in your church or your family?

Season 3 Episode 8 Being Filled with the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 5:1-20

1) The Holy Spirit is not a cosmic force or energy field that Christians tap into. The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Godhead. We have a relationship with Him.
A) Sensual/fleshly/sinful desires thwart sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:20-30).
B) An immoral person is an idolater. God’s wrath is poured out on the disobedient.
C) The Holy Spirit helps believers walk circumspectly, with calculated understanding, making the most of the time we have left on this earth.

2) The Bible warns against people who talk too much (Ephesians 5:3-4).
A) When many words are used, sin is not absent. Christians should hold conversations that glorify Christ and use words that edify the Body of Christ (Proverbs 10:19).
B) The tongue has the power of life and death inside it (Proverbs 18:21). The tongue can be used as a weapon to harm and destroy someone or it can be a tool to encourage and heal a person.
C) A perverse tongue stirs up conflict and separates close friends (Proverbs 16:28).

3) Our words reveal what we have allowed in our hearts. An angry heart speaks angry words. A hateful heart speaks hateful words.
A) Guard your heart, because all of your conversations and behavior flow from the wellspring inside (Proverbs 4:23-28).
B) What images your eyes focus on and what messages your ears listen to will eventually connect with your soul (Matthew 13:13-23).
C) The Gifts of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 12-14). The fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:13-26). The indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-17 & 25-27 & John 16:13-15), I Corinthians 6:17-20, Romans 8:1-11).

The New Covenant blessing is the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. What are some areas in your mind that need to be emptied so the Holy Spirit can do a complete work in your life?

b) Those who desire to be full of the Spirit, must be willing to pay the full price of obedience to the Word of God.
c) The Holy Spirit is a surgeon of Holiness. He will cut away the self sins: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

3) The Holy Spirt does not want to hurt your pride. He wants to kill it.
a) Reaching a lonely place of brokenness where your flesh has nothing to depend on is where you start encountering the deep love of God.
b) A vessel full of flesh needs to be emptied before it can become a vessel full of the Spirit.
c) The carnal man wants medals and happy experiences. He places himself on a path to bondage with a full fledged pursuit of pleasure and self promotion. The Spirit filled man is content with the presence of the Lord and sinful wounds that have been healed with scars.

Ephesians 3:14-4:1-16

1) Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
a) There is one Lord, One Spirit, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all.
b) God has given ministers in the church to equip His people for works of service, so the Body of Christ may be built up.
c) We should strive for spiritual maturity so that we may attain the whole measure of Christ available to us to maximize our potential.

2) The Unity of the Spirit is not man-made, a human manifested concept or production.
a) We are called to be ambassadors of Christ to the sphere of influence God has given us.
b) We are called to speak the truth of Christ in love. This should be done in a manner that does not compromise Biblical Truth.
c) Love is correcting in nature. The Holy Spirit is capable of transforming lives, convicting hearts and growing believers on His own. We need to make sure our pride and perspective does not interfere with that process.

3) When you allow the voice of Jesus to become clear and present in your life, all others' voices must get quiet and submit.
a) What voices need to be silenced in your life? What is keeping your attention from pursuing Christ?
b) We can understand what is most important to a person by watching how they invest their time and money.
c) Inner peace is not contingent upon our circumstances. It is directly related to how much space we allow Christ to occupy inside of us (heart & mind).

Season 3 Episode 5 God’s Plan for the Church, Part 2

There are several lenses by which one can view scripture from a Christian perspective. A few popular viewpoints is Dispensationalism, Amillennialism, and the Hebrew Roots Movement (Torahism). It is important to note that there are so many variations internally with each of these systems to make declarative statements.

1) Dispensationalism is a Biblical framework that makes the argument that God has dealt with His people in different ways in different times.
a) There is a distinct difference between the Church and Nation of Israel.
b) Old Testament prophecies directed to Israel are to be interpreted literally.
c) Dispensationalism eschatology lends itself to a pre-tribulation rapture of the church before the Great Tribulation period outlined in Revelation (chapters 4-19). It also promotes a literal 1,000 year rule of Jesus Christ upon the earth at His 2nd coming (Revelation 20).

2) Amillennialists believe scripture should not be interpreted literally but rather symbolically to arrive at central spiritual Truths.
a) Amillennialists believe the 1,000 year reign of Christ is allegorical. It is a spiritual state that has been ongoing since His physical resurrection. The Church is currently in the millennial reign of Christ and it is not a future event. Jesus is currently reigning on King David’s throne symbolically and spirtually in heaven.
b) Amillennialists do not believe in a rapture of the church or an actual 7 years of tribulation. 7 is a symbolic number of completion.
c) The Church is Israel. It has not replaced Israel but is rather a continuation of Israel. Israel is a symbolic term for God’s people. There is no distinction between the Church and Israel in the Bible.

3) Hebrew Roots/Torahism believes the Church was grafted into Israel.
a) Jesus Christ did not do away with the Old Testament laws but rather came to uplift them and fulfill them. It promotes adherence to the Mosaic Law with the recognition that Jesus is the Messiah.
b) The celebration of Jewish feasts and festivals along with obedience to the Mosiac law is for both Jews and Christians. The Church is grafted into Israel as a new branch into the orginal tree of Israel in the Old Testament through Jesus's finished work on the cross in the New Testament.
c) The new Israel will go through the great tribulation period outlined in Revelation. The rapture and the 2nd Coming are simultaneous events. Jesus will come back in physical form to rule the earth from Jeruslem on the throne of King David.

Ephesians 3:1-13

1) Jesus gave Paul insight into a mystery that was revealed only to him. What is that mystery (Ephesians 3:2-6)?
a) Gentiles are now members together with Israel, one body, sharers together in the promises of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
b) Now through the church, the body of Christ, the manifold wisdom of God will be made known to the rulers and authorities in heavenly realms.
c) Israel has experienced a hardening in part (towards the gospel of Jesus Christ) until the full number of Gentiles has come in, and then all of Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25-27). Salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious (Romans 11:11-12).

2) Abrahamic Covenant was an everlasting covenant established by God (Genesis 15:1-21). God promised him, land, seed and blessing.
a) Covenant with Israel under Moses (Deuteronomy 29 & 30)
b) Covenant with King David (2 Samuel 7:12-16).
c) A future covenant with Israel was prophesied (Jeremiah 31:31-37).

3) The new covenant established through Jesus Christ is superior to the old covenant established under Moses. How can this be? (Hebrews 8:7-13)
a) Jesus came in the order of Melchizedek and not the order of Aaron. Why? (Hebrews 7:1-28)
b) Jesus is greater than Moses. Why? (Hebrews 2:17 - 3:6)
c) Jesus is the last high priest and the last sacrifice needed for the atonement of sin (Hebrews 10:1-18).

Ephesians 2:1-22

1) We were dead in our transgressions and sins when we followed the ruler of the kingdom of the air who is now at work in those disobedient.
a) Two choices in life: we are either yielding to the flesh and being conformed to the pattern of this world or being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
b) God raised us up with Christ to demonstrate His incomparable riches, grace, and kindness.
c) We are saved by Grace, through faith, not from our efforts, but rather as a gift from God.

2) We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.
a) God stands outside of time, space, future & history. He has the ability to know the future and to set things up for our benefit and for us to accomplish His purposes.
b) We must set aside our personal priorities to accept the yoke of Christ (Matthew 11:29-30).
c) We are ambassadors for Christ, His representatives upon the earth (II Corinthians 5:16-22).

3) Grace is not the goal of Christian believers. The goal should be to become more like Jesus Christ.
a) Saving faith is about giving Jesus glory and not elevating our personal story.
b) Salvation is the starting point. Perfection in Christ is the goal and the journey from now on.
c) We are dangerously in control of our own lives. God’s word has always been and will always be the standard of Christian living to guide us into all righteousness.

c) Jesus prunes the branches that produce no fruit.

2) The world cannot accept the Spirit of Truth because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
a) He will prove the world to be wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8).
b) He will guide us into all Truth. He will glorify Jesus and testify about Jesus. He will speak only what He hears and He will tell us what is to come (John 16: 13-15).
c) The Gospel is revealed to man by the Holy Spirit. The world is blind to the truth of the gospel under human understanding alone (2 Corinthians 4:4).

A) Joseph has a similar description in a dream in Genesis 37:9-11 where the 11 stars, the sun and moon were bowing down to him (Joseph being the 12th star).
B) Jeremiah 31:35-36, God’s covenant with Israel is tied to the Sun and the moon. As long as the sun shines by day, the moon by night, the waves of the sea roar, Israel will never cease to be a nation before Him.
C) Israel gave birth to the child Jesus Christ.

1) For generations the Jews have been looking for their Messiah (Micah 5:2)… ruler of Israel will come from Bethlehem.

2) Isaiah 9:6-7 "…for unto us a child is born and the government will be upon his shoulders… to his government there will be no end."

3) Zechariah 9:9-13… daughter Zion, your king comes riding on a donkey.

4) Red Dragon with 7 heads, 10 horns and seven crowns on its head.
A) The dragon’s tail swept 1/3 of the angels from heaven (Isaiah 14:11-15) (Revelation 12:4).
B) Satan tried to destroy Jesus as a child (Matthew 2:16-18).
C) The woman fled to the wilderness where she would be taken care of for 3 1/2 years out of the Dragon’s reach (Matthew 24:16). God provides supernatural protection for Israel for the 2nd half of the tribulation period. Many scholars suggest this will take place in Petra, Jordan - 150 miles south of Jerusalem.
D) Satan goes out to wage war against those who hold fast to their testimony of Jesus Christ. Spiritual warfare is taking place both on earth and in heaven. Michael is an archangel who stands guard over Israel (Daniel 10:21 & Revelation 12:7).

Romans 7:1-25

1) We no longer look to the Old Testament Law and sacrifices for salvation and acceptance from God our Father (Christ is the true substance and the finished work of the law).
a) Only those who look, seek and try to understand the finished work of Christ, through His death, burial, resurrection, and accession to the right hand of God our Father interceding on our behalf, can truly understand the transformational message of the Gospel.
b) Any organization that believes that good works in the flesh are required for salvation are pursing Biblical error.
c) You cannot understand the spiritual truths of the law by attempting to please God in the realm of the flesh and by self-approved logic and understanding. Remember... being wrong is a choice.

2) True works of God can only be fulfilled through the power of the Holy Spirit.
a) The Law/Torah are perfect and spiritual... however... you in your carnal nature are not.
b) How can you possibly please God in your flesh, when you are corrupted to the core? You cannot even begin to understand the works of the law in the flesh. You must be born again in the Holy Spirit. Spiritual truths are spiritual discerned.
c) The law is powerless to release you from the penalty of sin and death. You are saved from the condemnation of law by Christ alone and by placing your faith in Christ alone.

3) The natural condition of the human heart is evil and bent in passion against the law of God.
a) Christ is the only being capable of preventing you from pursuing the evil desires of your heart.
b) The law of the Holy Spirit has set you free from the law of sin and death.
c) Without placing your faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ you cannot even begin to understand what it means to be obedient to the law and the Gospel message. The person without the Holy Spirit and true faith in Christ are given over to Satan in the form of legalism and self-righteousness. Human understanding of God is the religion of deception, false humility and self-righteousness. You must walk in step with the Holy Spirit or you pursue the desires of the flesh.

Discussion Question: What acts of righteousness can you actually perform, by your own understanding of law, to please God your Father and Creator?

Romans 6:1-23

1) When a person is born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, they become dead to sin and alive in Christ.
a) The person without the Holy Spirit cannot understand eternal principles outlined in scripture. Biblical concepts are ridiculous to the carnal mind.
b) The person without the life giving power of the Holy Spirit is bound by condemnation under the righteous demands of the law and destined for God’s wrath.
c) Jesus met God’s righteousness demands under the law through his death, burial and resurrection. We receive the benefit(s) of Christ by faith (Salvation, Reconciliation, Glorification, Sanctification).

2) Legalism is a false sense of security that appeals to our carnal nature. We can only be found righteous because of what Christ has accomplished alone (Mark 7: 5-23).
a) A legalistic clings to man-made self righteous regulations instead of allowing Christ to draw out a pure inner motive of holiness birthed by the Holy Spirit (John 4:14).
b) Any work of obedience that does not spring forth from an active and living faith in Jesus Christ and His word is a form of legalism.
c) The Bible and leading of the Holy Spirit should never be restrained by religious traditions, human wisdom and popular opinion.

3) The grace of Christ reached out and met us at our weakest point.
a) If we attempt to please God in the flesh and we are not empowered by the Spirit, our fleshly passions will push us deeper into the bondage to sin.
b) The sinful state of the human heart without a saving faith in Christ is truly wretched.
c) When we have been baptized into Christ by faith, it will be marked by repentance of sins and seeking a new way of life in the Holy Spirit.

c) We have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ.

3) The benefits package of Christ does us no good if we do not learn how to use it.
a) Christians can be content in all circumstances. We can obtain peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17) (Philippians 4:12).
b) You alone are responsible for your spiritual maturity (II Corinthians 5: 10).
c) Christian discipleship requires us to seek out spiritual peers, mentors and trainees (Colossians 1:28-29).

Romans 4:1-25

1) Father Abraham is the Father of the Jews and our (Gentiles) father in faith through the grace of Christ.

3) God has called us not just to be saved but to produce spiritual fruit and good works of righteousness by that same faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2: 4-10).
a) There is freedom in Christ by faith that releases us from the power/bondage of sin to produce works of obedience separated from the law (Galatians 2: 15-21).
b) The law emphasized the eternal truth that obedience to God from a heart of love would produce a full life of blessing in the Lord. God has set before you life and death as a choice (Deuteronomy 30:15-20).
c) King David knew by faith that God was the only one who could circumcise his heart following his deliberate sin of adultery and murder (Bathsheba/Uriah the Hittite). Despite his transgressions, David was still considered a man after God’s own heart (Psalm 51: 1-12).

Romans 3:9-31
1) No one will stand righteous before God by their own justification, behavior and determination.
a) We all have a tendency to use the Word of God, religious behavior and personal arguments to justify our own self righteous.
b) No one will be declared righteous by the works of the Law, rather the law makes us aware of our sinful nature.
c) Righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

2) The Gospel of Jesus Christ is built on the foundation of the Old Testament law (Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy), the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s body on the cross, and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
a) What the law was incapable of performing, Jesus accomplished on the cross (perfection, holiness, righteousness).
b) Jesus said He did not come to abolish the law, but to establish it. He actually raised the standard of righteousness to include our thought life, desires and motives. The law deals with our spiritual nature and not just our behavior (Matthew 5:17-30).
c) The law requires justice and holiness because it reflects the nature of God.

3) The establishment of the Old Testament law was necessary before Jesus arrival earth.
a) A weak view of sin results in a weak view of the Gospel message.
b) The law was necessary to explain our need for salvation. The law promotes the righteousness of God while revealing our sinful nature.
c) The cross was necessary to deal properly with sin in the world. God’s justice requires perfection or blood. God offered His Son’s blood to pay the price for our sinful behavior so that we can be reconciled to our Creator.

Discussion Question: What are the methods the world uses to deal with the guilt of sin... and how can we use those methods to explain the importance of the Gospel?

Romans 2:17-28, 3:1-8

1) We can have a knowledge of the Truth... but not really understand the Spiritual application (what is Biblically true).
a) We would not know what sin is... if we did not have the law (Truth of God’s Word).
b) The law reveals and points to the character of God... Jesus Himself.
c) Jesus said true worshipers of God will worship the Father in the Spirit and in Truth.

2) Religion has no spiritual mechanism to change who you are on the inside. It can only change who you are on the outside (do not be a Pharisee!).
a) We can become so productive in our religious activity that if we are not sensitive to the Holy Spirit we can lose our true spiritual value.
b) Do not allow your religious activity to steal your spiritual connection/personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
c) Remember... Religious people will hate and kill someone who is spiritually connected to Jesus Christ (what we do not understand... we will either worship or kill!). If they did it to Jesus... they will do it to you!

3) Circumcision is of the heart... it is not a physical response... but a spiritual response.
a) What comes out of our desires, attitudes, conversations, and behaviors dictates the direction of our eternal future.
b) We need to realize that our personal/earthly achievements carry little value. Only what we do for Christ will last (the eternal versus what is temporary).
c) If we chose to be obedient to Jesus and His teachings... He will put us under transformational pressure to change us spiritually speaking (do not fear the discipline of the Lord).

“Old timers” in the church used to ask the question, “How is your faith doing?” How should we approach other believers in the Body of Christ to encourage them to remain in the faith?

Romans 2:1-16

1) We are all guilty of breaking God’s law and quick to justify personal sin in our lives.
a) God’s justice is based on absolute truth and unblemished righteousness which is in conflict with worldly understanding, logic and wisdom.
b) We are called to make judgements regarding spiritual warfare: filtering worldly concepts through a Biblical worldview (II Corinthians 10:3-6, Ephesians 6:10-18).
c) For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (Matthew 7:2).

2) We are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ. However, the grace of Jesus Christ also provides us with the power to overcome sin and to become Biblically obedient.
a) God’s kindness is intended to lead us to repentance.
b) Those who refuse to repent are storing up wrath for themselves. One day God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
c) On the day of God’s wrath, He will judge people’s secrets.

3) We need to remind ourselves who we are and who we represent.
a) Be patient with others as God has been patient with us.
b) God does not call qualified people by worldly standards. He qualifies those who pursue righteousness and obedience to Him.
c) We were bought at a price, with the blood of Jesus, therefore we should honor God in all we do.

Discussion Question: What kind of judgements about the world and other people should the Christian make?

Romans 1:18-32

1) The Truth of God is suppressed by our wickedness. We are what is wrong with this world in our natural/fleshly state.
a) God’s anger/wrath towards sin is central to His righteous character.
b) We will all eventually stand spiritually naked before God to give account for actions in the flesh; both good and bad.
c) We will be judged by God’s standard of righteousness and not our own understanding of righteousness.

2) American culture is consumed with sexual immorality and pornography.
a) We are called to raise a standard of righteousness; to be salt and light to an ungodly generation and an encouragement to fellow believers in Jesus Christ.
b) Any culture that approves of a homosexual lifestyle and sexual promiscuity is in an advanced stage of moral corruption.
c) God gives us over to the desires of our heart when we reject His Truth; lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life.

3) We are called to preach the Gospel to all men and to make disciples for Christ.
a) Our worldly friends/family are destined for hell and damnation/eternal separation from God.
b) Deception and hollow doctrine will dominate and trap those who refuse to worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
c) Salvation is passing from spiritual death to life. It is the power of the Holy Spirit releasing us from the power and dominion of sin and spiritual death.

We know the secular world suppresses the righteousness of God in wickedness. In what ways does the modern American church do the same thing by preaching a non-Biblical version of the Gospel?

Romans 1:1-17

1) We are set apart for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
a) Righteousness comes by faith and not by works. It is believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
b) The Gospel is the transformational power of God that brings salvation for all who believe.
c) Discipleship is the continuation of salvation.

2) There are two kinds of people in the world: saved and unsaved.
a) A person who is deceived places salvation in their own works.
b) A person of faith recognizes their own sinful condition and depravity.
c) God is ready to raise up believers who are ready to take spiritual territory for the kingdom of God.

3) We are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
a) The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a Godly Life.
b) The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth.
c) The Holy Spirit is our advocate/comfort in our time of trouble and adversity.
