I love love love this conversation about Leo that I had with Joselia Hughes. It might be my favorite conversation that I’ve had about Leo so far, because we talk about what is NOT visible with this sign. Of all the people I work with, people with strong Leo signatures are the ones who consistently report that they don’t resonate with the pop-astrology significations of the sign. Astrology is a complex story-telling apparatus. If we approach it with a prescriptive intention, it loses its potency. When we excavate the archetype of Leo we find things like deep sensitivities to visibility AND invisibility, and preoccupations with mortality (hence the need to create and express). Those of you who study astrology might look to Scorpio or Capricorn for topics of time and death, but Leo might have them beat when it comes to being focused on the sustenance of vitality and the endurance of its own essence. 

Jo is a writer, editor, access worker, and artist. We also talk about the transformation of the archetype, where we see it showing up in the world, organizational structures, art-making, writing, disability justice, authoritarian/celebrity culture and more. I think everyone who has prominent Leo-Aquarius signatures will find themselves somewhere in this conversation.

You are getting your Leo season content in 2 parts this season. In this episode Cory delivers the August 2024 forecast and shares a treatise on Mercury retrograde which is prominent in the astrology of August. Yes, things are busting loose and feel out of control...because they are. Chaos is a natural phase in the process of change. Real change does not arrive in neatly manageable packages that make everyone comfortable. If that happens to occur, chances are that the only thing we’re changing is the packaging. Chaos aids in the pulling up of structures by their roots. There is not a polite way to do this. There is grace, however, in letting go of outworn structures, processes, and perspectives, and allowing for movement. When we don’t allow for movement and being in right relationship with each other and our environment on a regular basis we can experience change as cataclysmic. Life will clear the path for movement in a very forceful way if we can’t do it for ourselves. August’s astrology is definitely in conversation with July’s astrology, asking and answering, “what can be built with new tools and new designs?” and “WHY are we attatched to the things we can’t let go of?”

This eclipse season is heavily toned by planets in Pisces, and the eclipses themselves are ruled by Venus and Mars in Pisces. This adds an enormity of sensitivity, idealism, and confusion surrounding bold actions we may want to take at this time. As if that weren’t enough, Mercury retrogrades through Aries during this season, adding more heat, demands, and (seemingly) urgent communications. The asteroid Chiron in Aries is also deeply influential in this series and points to places that could use some healing, especially around topics of force, conflict, and basic existence.

As an educator, Renee’s unique facilitation style blends embodiment practices (somatics, yoga, dance,) environmental and relational attunement, esoteric philosophical study, and creative arts and writing. She is a second generation astrologer and lifetime practitioner of astrology. Renee has been working and training for nearly 20 years as a somatic educator and energy worker. The astro-weather in this episode gives a run down of the Month of January and starting January first. The month of January helps set new things in motion - eventually. Our last episode of the year!

In this episode Cory introduces the sign of Capricorn and welcomes the winter solstice and new moon. This is an astrology packed show and Cory covers the next two weeks of astro-weather, plus shares a new moon Capricorn playlist. To start, the astrology of this week includes:  Venu’s square to Chiron, Jupiter’s ingress into Aries, the sun’s ingress into Capricorn, new moon Capricorn, Chiron’s station direct, plus a harmonious aspect between Venus and Uranus. This week is a great week for relationships to take a turn for the better. 

This week also marks the winter solstice. The celebration of the return of light. On Wednesday the 21st, the sun ingresses into Capricorn marking the shortest day of the year. From here forward days will gradually get longer. 

The Capricorn new moon on Friday the 23rd, great for initiating something new. This is prime time to begin something that you want to endure the test of time. Because of a square to Jupiter, this new endeavor will begin with an extra boost of energy. 

Next week, Mercury stations retrograde in Capricorn (29th). Very quickly after it’s station, Venus will meet up with Mercury. In the show Cory describes how this is like Venus coming along and giving Mercury a hug.

In this episode Cory and astrologer Mandee Sheeler devote a great deal of time parsing out the upcoming total lunar eclipse in Taurus on November 8th. The whole week is studded with intense transits, and they talk about those as well. In the second half of the show they dig into listener emails and answer some astrology questions. 

There is no shortage of content about this upcoming eclipse because as Cory puts it: “it's like the astrological super bowl”. There are many considerations to me made and many possible outcomes. 

This “big” astrology of the week is the eclipse (which happens on the same day as the US Midterm election) but there is also a lot of other movement as well. This week we also have: Venus square Saturn, the lunar eclipse, Mercury cazimi - opposite the Taurus full moon, Venus opposing Uranus, full moon is conjunct Uranus… there’s a lot!

Is astrology a “science”,  “religion” or something else?

Can you explain the mechanism of astrology? How does astrology work?

This eclipse (on 11/8) is happening at the same degree of my sun. I have tried to look up what this could mean but most of the stuff I have found hasn’t sounded all that great. My family is gathering for my birthday but I’m feeling anxious and don't want to go. I’m scared I will be nervous the whole time and come across as ungrateful. I guess from the sounds of it I should stay home and hide under the covers all day? What am I supposed to do and how can I not let this fear ruin my day. Are eclipses really THAT big of a deal? 

I am a Taurus sun and as silly as it seems, being called stubborn gets under my skin. Yes, I can be stubborn at times, but I don’t feel like that's fair to say all the time. I think especially with family they can sometimes dismiss me as “being stubborn” and won’t take me seriously. Other times being called stubborn makes me question if I’m really being “too firm” or if the other person just doesn't have the same values/like the boundaries I have. Is there a way you could help me reframe or work with this? 

I am learning and just started really getting deeper into Astrology. I have a lot of fixed energy in my chart and NO planets in fire at all. Any suggestions on how to work with this knowledge?
