ep 025 The Trouble with Producing Burlesque

There was one show that taught us everything we needed to know about producing a burlesque show. It was Bunny Brigade, a tribute to the Playboy Bunnies. In this episode we share some of the roadblocks we experienced while trying to bring this show to the stage as well as why we put it in the vault and no longer produce burlesque. Phelyx interjecting here... This was a unique burlesque show that offered the whole of my (at the time) eleven years in the craft (I survived an additional couple of years). We applied all of that experience, plus the collective experience of a total of seven craftspeople from the neo-burlesque world in the creation and production of this show. If I can say so myself, this was decidedly high art in a low-brow art form that could have even been syndicated. I wish you could have been there. It was, unquestionably one of my all-time favorite collaborations. Oh, how I wish I could share the whole thing with you. An understated and tragically underestimated (by venue owners) masterwork. This, I believe, was the key to elevating burlesque from a bucket-list hobby to true art... and it broke us.
