At just 24 years of age, Kellin is making positive waves on the New York Jazz Scene and beyond.

She is very much living the life of a full time performing musician with a wide variety of gigs from small group jazz to Big Bands and Broadway pit orchestras. As a music educator, Kellin is in high demand across the USA providing clinics and workshops at schools and universities on a regular basis.

Kellin has a strong social media presence is a great example to younger musicians that despite what career guidance counselors may advise, a fulfilling life in the music business is very much possible.

Johnny holds the distinction of having played on 38 Number Hit recordings in the UK. In addition, for more than a decade, his horn playing was featured on at least one album sitting in the UK Top 50 charts every week.

Thirkell is a successful businessman outside of his life as a tradesman trumpeter. He discusses the importance for him of finding passive income streams when facing the reality of life of battling the aging brass musician syndrome.

Music education forms a big part of his life. Johnny runs regular music camps for musicians where students interact with acclaimed professionals in small group classes.

Good Enough is Good Enough for Johnny Thirkell. You don't have to be the best musician in the world to play with some of the best and enjoy a life in music.

Johnny has written a book called BLOWN IT which is available directly from his website. It charts the life of a highly successful session musician and is a fun read.

In Episode 4 of the Music Mind Podcast series my conversation is with one of Australia's most successful bass guitarists Roger McLachlan. In this two part conversation we learn of Roger's beginnings in music in New Zealand.

Born into a musical family Roger rapidly progressed from ukulele to guitar and ultimately to the instrument that he has based his career on, the electric bass guitar.

In Part 1 of the conversation we followed Roger's development from his early days in New Zealand through to moving to Australia and successfully auditioning as the original bass player for the internationally successful super group The Little River Band (LRB).

In this Part 2 of the conversation we take off from Roger's days recording and touring with the super group The Little River Band (LRB) and move on to his performances with the Melbourne pop group Stars in the late 1970s.

To further highlight Roger's versatility we get to see him perform with one of Australia's very best Jazz Fusion groups from the 1980s Pyramid. This includes a classic performance on national TV with the late, great legend and pioneer of Jazz in Australia, Don Burrows.

The conversation takes Roger's career further through to recording and performing with the most successful pop singer in Australian music history, John Farnham. It is Roger's fretless bass that is heard on the hit single "You're The Voice" from the all-time highest selling album by an Australian artist, John Farnham's 'Whispering Jack'. 'You're The Voice' sat at number one on the record charts in Australia for 25 weeks.

Based in St Louis in the USA, Jim is well recognised within the brass world as a master player and teacher who specialises in the search for efficiency when playing the trumpet.

A high note trumpeter extraordinaire Jim has released 19 contemporary instrumental albums under his own name and is currently working on his twentieth album. His recorded music ranges from classic big band sounds to small group jazz through to contemporary pop and fusion sounds. Jazz and pop standards, along with original compositions are all played with equal care, taste, tone, technique and energy.

Jim has a profoundly positive attitude to life and to music. There is much for all of us to learn from this podcast conversation which includes discussion on Jim's close personal friendship with the legendary Maynard Ferguson, to entertaining stories of his early years in music, his performance and recording careers and his constant search for improvement as a musician.
