Veteran of the film industry Roger Hall joins us for a chat about his life in the movies. As a Production Designer he has a pretty incredible filmography starting back in the 1960's. His first feature film was multiple Oscar winner 'Chariots Of Fire', for which he received a BAFTA nomination, followed by 'White Mischief', 'Power of One', 'Dreamchild', and many others. He received an Emmy nomination for 'Alice In Wonderland', collected an Emmy award for 'Merlin' and received both BAFTA and Emmy awards for 'Gullivers Travels'. He even made the first Rolling Stones music video way back in the 60's. Roger eventually moved on to film and advertising and is now an architectural and garden designer.

Roger Field - Rogue Male

Joining us is soldier, lawyer, writer and literary agent Roger Field. This episode is more or less a book report about 'Rogue Male: Sabotage and seduction behind German lines with Geoffrey Gordon-Creed DSO, MC' which Roger wrote using the man's memoirs. Definitely one of the best books I've read so was a great pleasure to talk to Roger about it. Geoffrey Gordon-Creed joined the Army straight from school in 1939 and saw action in North Africa (he won the Military Cross on his first day in battle). From there on to Greece to scupper the Germans' plans as a member of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) which was the UK's early Special Forces . He was a top level operator on the battlefield AND in the bedroom - and in this book he does not spare the details. Roger is a natural storyteller and we also discuss his latest book 'Scimitar into Stanley' about his memoirs from the Falklands War. Great guy, great subject.

Who knew farming could be so interesting? Ian Horsley was a successful investment banker in the City of London. He quit banking aged 33 and had a dream to buy a farm, source his own food and return to a simpler life. Dreaming is the easy part. Along the way he concluded that using pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers was unsustainable long term. Instead, he used his analytical banker's brain to investigate how to use both traditional and modern methods to farm his land in a much more environmentally friendly way. Jacob Hubbard - Surviving brain trauma

After a fairly minor knock on the head, Jacob Hubbard suffered an appalling concussion and brain trauma which had a profound effect on his young life. Due to the terrible pain he was forced to spend 3 months in his bedroom without any light - unable to read or watch tv. There was a lot of thinking and soul searching as he hit psychological rock bottom. Rupert Grey, the very model of a modern English gentleman. Absolute legend of a man who I’m only just getting to know. Honestly, I could talk with him for hours but sadly we only had an hour to squeeze in what we could. He’s a libel lawyer, traveler, champion of photographic copyright, protector of the ocean and we cover all this in the podcast. While in their late 60’s, he and his wife drove 8,000 miles in a 1930’s Rolls Royce around India.
