Dwight will discuss some of his personal challenges faced, which led to a change in his lifestyle following diagnosis with high blood pressure. He very simply applies practical changes, that eliminated high blood pressure, but many other issues we all have encountered . Dwight permanently released 47 pounds as a direct result of his program, and Nicole his wife lost over 32 lbs, and they have kept it off for more than a decade.

Collaborating In University Is A Must To Succeed!

Happy New Year 2023! What a fun conversation with this amazing young woman, Audree Brisson. She says that setting yourself up for success is easily done through collaborations. This young woman has been making a difference in her community through collaborations with many organizations since she was only 8 years old. Leading by example with an optimistic view, her parents have encouraged Audree to focus and work together collaboratively in order to achieve success in many areas of her life. Her love of animals and socializing is portrayed well with her wrap up joke. Welcome new collaborations to meet goals and stay focused on the big goals ahead celebrating small success steps along the way.

Audree Brisson is 17 years old and grew up in the village of Embrun. She is now studying nursing at the University of Ottawa. She has been involved with many organizations throughout her high school years such as 4-H, la FESFO (french student organization) and her school board. She has completed over 100 hours of community service in Embrun and Russel with the Optimist Club, 4-H and the Centre de santé communautaire de l'Estrie. During the pandemic, She worked in a retirement home and at the Embrun Veterinary Hospital.

This incredible lady and dear friend has a wealth of knowledge of health and is on a mission to help others understand the connection between nutrition and overall health. It was thanks to her parents influence at age 18 that Natasha had a life changing event occur that propelled her onto her life long journey of self discovery and wellbeing maintenance. As a graduate of mass media communication from the University of La Sabana in Bogota, Maria worked on several public relations projects and developed liaisons such as optical fibre, a discount card for young people and a TV Colombian show about aboriginal food.

Kelly Dumas is the Executive Director of Rural Ottawa South Support Services (ROSSS), a community support services agency that serves seniors and adults with disabilities in rural Ottawa South. Kelly is a passionate advocate for the unique needs of seniors and adults with disabilities who wish to remain in their rural communities. Kelly and the staff at ROSSS were inspired by their day to day work with isolated seniors to develop a province-wide service to combat the epidemic of loneliness. In 2018, the team at ROSSS launched A Friendly Voice, a telephone line for Ontario seniors who are lonely and would benefit from speaking with a friendly, caring volunteer. The phone line has grown significantly over the last four years, especially during the pandemic, with volunteers taking thousands of calls a year from lonely and isolated seniors. Kelly is the mother of 4 boys and together with her husband Robin, takes great pleasure in all the fun and chaos that comes with raising 4 boys.

Dr. Michelle Meyer ND has had her family-based naturopathic medical practice in Ottawa since 2000 after graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1996.

Dr. Meyer’s practice embraces her belief in food as medicine, including her passion for botanical medicine. She recognizes the vital importance of food quality including the need for organically grown crops free of glyphosate and other pesticides as essential to promoting optimal health and reducing the likelihood of cancers and many other health disorders and illnesses.

Dr. Meyer’s practice is distinct in its unique integration of naturopathic medical treatment with psychotherapy techniques. Her unique two-pronged approach allows her to support patients with acute and chronic physical and/or mental health challenges. Leo Dumas is a grade 8 student at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School in Russell Ontario. Leo has a strong passion for the arts and has a love for drama and music. Prior to COVID, Leo was actively involved in the theatre and played Oliver in the Russell Association for the Performing Arts (RAPA)’s production of Oliver Twist. He is currently working on his Grade 6 Conservatory in piano and loves to play video games in his spare time. Leo’s hope is to one day pursue his interest for math at the post secondary level.

#49 Community drives Catherine's passion as a Chocolatier and Artisan

Chocolatier, Catherine ten Den and I have been living in the same community of Limoges for over 29 years and only met this past year! In this fun episode we discover the magical talents this amazing lady has from Chocolatier for over 40 years to her 50 year crafting passion that fuelled Thomas Treasures. Catherine knows that success without community support can be a challenge. "Having a community is very, very important and it is comprised of several different aspects." Being valued by community is what drives her father-in-law who is now 105! WOW! Let's enjoy wrapping up your week with Catherine's yummy joke.

Catherine's first love was working with fibres of all kinds. Anything she has done since has continued that love in some form or another. In 1995 she produced a commissioned piece for the National Capital Commission, in commemoration of Dutch Princess Beatrix’ birth in Ottawa during the war.

Thomas Treasures has been in business for over 50 years and includes designing/dressmaking, fabric crafts (artisan bears, fabric art, etc.), miniatures, woodworking, felting, spinning, weaving, painting and a list just too long to go on. Website is thomastreasures.com

For the past few years she has been conducting classes in doll making, bear making, miniatures, sewing, designing and needlework. Classes are custom designed to suit the students, be it a group or an individual. Out of town clients often stay in the museum while attending the workshops.

Catherines's other business is Fine Chocolates by Catherine (Who doesn't love chocolate) which specializes in Belgian chocolate and anything that contains chocolate as well as a wide variety of baked items from bread to cake to whatever your imagination can come up with. A thriving business for close to 50 years now.

Amylia Prevost is my youngest daughter of 3 at age 18. She has been an Air Cadet making a difference in her community for several years now. She was dedicated to working at Tim Hortons throughout Covid because she loves being with and helping other people. Today she holds a position at Boston Pizza as a delivery driver and looks forward to moving into a waitress position in the near future. She has very strong work ethics and as a result she has developed great people skills. It is only natural that she is in studies for Community and Justice Services at Algonquin college to continue on the path of making a difference in the community.
