A friend of mine made the statement "I forgot how to live. I am simply surviving." There's quite a bit I was very unprepared for when it comes to postpartum. A couple new moms and seasoned mom shared a similar narrative as I when I questioned them on their postpartum journey. In today's episode, we step on some toes by diving into the topic of gluttony and sex. There is something profoundly disturbing about an overweight missionary or preacher teaching about holiness, freedom, and deliverance when that person is obviously under the power of another authority -- food (ouch). Sex and food both do damage to your physical and spiritual walk. While the consequences are different, both are equally gross sins that can easily become a stronghold. The good news is, "... by his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.." (1 Corinthians 6:14).

We cannot conquer any physical addictions (whatever they may be) without the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. It's up to you and me to submit our desires and trade off for something far greater, freedom!

Ladies, this is for you. This episode is all things intimacy. We take a look at Matthew 6-7 and Ephesians 5:22-33 on submission and how intimacy plays a vital role in that. 

Intimacy with your spouse should be sacred just as intimacy with Christ should be. Too often we make a spectacle of our relationship both with Christ and our spouse and it's simply a public relationship. Relationship with your spouse just as with Christ should go deeper than public displays, or mere physical intimacy. It requires an emotional bond. If not, it's not true intimacy.
 
Matthew 6:6 states, "But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret." Just as intimacy with your spouse is built in private, so is your relationship with Christ. 

So, for you, is intimacy a spectacle or spectacularly sacred?

You and I may have all right to hold on to anger, bitterness, and a mean grudge. Most of us can justify why we believe we are in the right for what we’re holding onto, however, your rightness doesn’t work in the kingdom of God. How you live day in and day out tells a bigger story and is the script that we have on the resume we present whenever we take our last breath and face our Savior. In this episode, we touch on the expiration date of the things we've been holding onto and allowing to cluster our lives. The choice is ultimately yours. The tongue is one of the smallest yet most powerful weapons we have. We will give an account for every idle word that we speak. In this episode we take a look at Matthew 12:36.  The idle words are words that are used to slander, gossip, self-righteously destroy others and the list goes on. How we treat and speak about those in sin says a lot about what’s really in our hearts. Self-righteousness exposes for the sake of looking good about oneself and destroying the lives of others. Humility understands that lost people do lost things and love covers a multitude of sins. While many of us may be technically right in correcting sin, we are often functionally wrong whenever we allow the principle to take precedence over a person by self-righteously exposing sin.

One of my least favorite questions is, are you pregnant yet or when are you getting pregnant?
 
There's quite of bit of pressure in both questions along with guilt and shame because you're not where everyone wants you to be. While well-intentioned in the questioning, what we don't realize is that there are hurting women, husbands, and wives who fear the confrontation of childbearing. 

In this episode I take the approach of how to phrase that question as well as encourage couples to refrain from giving in the poor reason of expanding their family: 

• Because everyone is having children
• In order to please your significant other
• To keep your marriage from falling apart

Let's shift how we ask women and couples about expanding their families and let's avoid the pressure to move to the next phase of life with ill-intentioned reasons.

Whenever you start dating the pressures of marriage intensifies greatly. Whether it be from well-meaning friends and family or from personal insecurities, it just seems to smack you in the face every corner you turn. In this episode, I share my personal journey of enjoying the season I was in rather than rushing to get to the next phase of life. I realized that I would miss what was in front of me if I kept rushing to be where everyone else was. What I didn't want was to miss what God was doing.

On our way back from visiting family in Houston, Jarrod and I decided to hit the record button and share do's and don'ts in marriage. In this episode, we highlight the importance of: 

1. DON'T knit pick (pick and choose your battles).

I heard once that those who quit guarantee "IT" will never happen. Too often we are filled with excuses and just downright lame "becauses" that hold us back. We don't do it because of the "what if's." We don't "be" or "become" because of what "they" might say. Instead, what we do is quit. We quit doing, we quit becoming, we quit going after, we quit striving and we're lost in our mess of a quitters rut. Almost a quarter of U.S. children under 18 (23%) live with one parent and no other adults. In many of those homes, children are being raised by a single mother with no father figure represented. With the lack of fatherly representation in the home, children who turn into adults find it hard to trust and believe that a God truly can love unconditionally and care for them. Sexual abuse of any sort is no easy road to walk. In fact, the church is still learning to walk this line. In this episode, I share the harsh reality that while there is sexual abuse within the church, it does not mean the church failed you. Man's decision is no reflection of God's heart rather the evil that is hidden within. Once that trust is broken it can appear unrepairable, however, God's greatness surpasses the unthinkable and unimaginable.

Do you find it difficult to be grateful? Do you find it difficult to be thankful? I sure have. In this episode, I share how our septic blew up and life was just a tad bit crappy (pun intended).

Alright, our septic didn't actually blow up, but we were having quite of bit of hits back to back and Jesus gently reminded me to remember His goodness and to shift my attitude.

The only way I was able to do that was to implement daily my list of gratitude. Hansel and Gretel is a wild fairytale story. For bedtime stories, it's quite the opposite of a fairytale and all things sunshine and happiness. In this episode, I use the story of Hansel and Gretel to portray how many of us are living today. We are aimlessly walking through this thing called life living on spiritual crumbs (bits and pieces of Jesus). We see in Hansel and Gretel what happens when stones were used versus crumbs. The challenge to you and I is to have a heart that is built on the rock of God (or God's word) rather than the bits and pieces we try to live on when we're desperate for hope. In order to do this, we need to trade our crumbs for all of who God is. This requires disciple.

We've passed a lot of sin as permissible. We've said they are "okay." We've come up with clever justification as to why what we do or how we choose to live is "somewhat Christlike" and because of the somewhat we've deemed it okay. In this episode, I highlight some of today's sins we've convinced ourselves are harmless and sadly daily entertain:

1. Over-sexualizing the up and coming generation
2. Validating impurity consumed through our eyes and ears

7. Supporting the retaliation in fits of anger
8. Teaming up on jealousy and envy among the body of Christ
9. Affirming unhealthy competitiveness that leads to division
10. Support, approval, and glorifying the state of intoxication
11. Accepting and engaging in orgies and sexual indulgence promoted in TV shows, movies, songs

 Those are just to name a few. 

My challenge to you, the Christ-follower, is to seek truth, seek to be an image-bearer of Christ, and in doing so, we truly will be uncommon people living out integrity and our purpose here on earth.

The moment we take our last breath, we can be disposed and someone else fills the role we once occupied. What is indisposable, however, is the legacy you and I leave behind. What is your hindsight 2020? For me, that is becoming a better version of myself. Looking back, 2020 was a pretty wild year for more reasons than one. If we keep using the excuse of hardships, we will never get head way. We can change what's around us, but what we can change is who we are. What version of you do you want history to remember?
