Right Voices: Rep. Jeff Duncan Outlines Policies to Unleash American Nuclear Power

In this episode of Right Voices, we spoke with Rep. Jeff Duncan, leads a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers introducing sweeping reforms to the nation’s regulatory system to deploy more nuclear power production.

Congressman Duncan joined us to discuss his proposed policies to unleash American nuclear power.

While nuclear power is safe, clean, and reliable, antiquated laws and regulations have hindered its deployment.

To address these challenges Rep. Duncan introduced the Atomic Energy Advancement Act. The AEAA, which recently passed the House of Representatives, includes several reforms to drive nuclear forward.

These include modernizing the permitting process, directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to consider the benefits of nuclear energy in its mission, and strengthening international competitiveness through trade and exports.

Right Voices: Rep. Miller-Meeks Outlines Her Priorities for the Conservative Climate Caucus

In this episode of Right Voices, we spoke with the new leader of the Conservative Climate Caucus, Rep. Mariannette Miller Meeks.

The caucus now has over 80 members, which is more than one-third of the Republican conference in the House! Conservatives are making bold moves on energy policy and it was awesome to hear about Meeks' top priorities as a leader.

Meeks discussed her top three legislative priorities in 2024:

1. Permitting Reform
"A more resilient grid is necessary. [W]hether it’s gas pipelines [or] it’s electric transmission lines, both of those things require changes in permitting.”

2. Unleashing nuclear power.
“One of the primary reasons why nuclear is not affordable and it takes so long to build is one, permitting, and two, the regulatory framework we have placed around nuclear. Nuclear would certainly be cost-effective if we were to reduce some of that regulatory burden.”

3. Renewables
"...We have an entire cadre of renewables other than wind and solar.”

While both are important, policymakers can often forget about other sources of renewable energy like hydropower and geothermal.

Mace emphasized the importance of the Task Force’s policies stating, “I think NEPA and permitting reform needs to be in place.”

Mace believes in pursuing market-driven solutions to our toughest energy and climate challenges, our leaders can provide energy relief to consumers and unleash American economic competitiveness.

When considering the negative impacts of climate change, people often cite wildfires, and for good reason. Over the past few years in the United States the damage from wildfires, in terms of acres burned, has increased. In 2021, California saw the single largest fire in the state’s recorded history, the Dixie Fire. It consumed an area that is nearly the size of Rhode Island. Recently in Colorado, wildfires raged, causing at least $513 million worth of damage.

To address the issue of wildfires, conservatives in Congress are finding pragmatic ways to improve the health of America’s forests and limit the impact that climate change and poor management have on our natural resources and communities. One such conservative leader is Rep. Westerman.

In this Right Voices interview with C3 Solutions, we speak with Kerry Emanuel, a prominent meteorologist and climate scientist who specializes in moist convection in the atmosphere, and tropical cyclones.

His research interests focus on tropical meteorology and climate, with a specialty in hurricane physics. His interests also include cumulus convection, the role of clouds, water vapor, and upper-ocean mixing in regulation of climate, and advanced methods of sampling the atmosphere in aid of numerical weather prediction.

Emanuel received an S.B. degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences and a Ph.D. in Meteorology (1978) both from MIT.

In 1981 he joined the faculty of the Department of Meteorology at MIT and was promoted to Full Professor in 1987 in what had since becomes the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS). In 1989 he assumed directorship of EAPS Center for Meteorology and Physical Oceanography, a post he held until 1997. Subsequently he chaired the EAPS Program in Atmospheres, Oceans, and Climate from 2009 to 2012. He is co-founder of the MIT Lorenz Center, a climate think tank which fosters creative approaches to learning how climate works.

Albright is the former Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. In that role, as the third most senior official at DOE, he provided leadership for energy and environment programs, including: energy research and development; demonstration and deployment; environmental cleanup; legacy management and radioactive waste management, all with a total budget of nearly $15 billion.

Albright was appointed by President Bush and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He has much expertise to share.

Nick Loris, Vice President of Public Policy at C3 Solutions, spoke with former secretary of the Department of Interior, David Bernhardt on, C3’s Right Voices series and discussed federal lands, energy production, and environmental regulations.

During Bernhardt’s time in charge of the Interior Department, the Great American Outdoors Act, one of the most significant public lands bills in recent history, was passed. The Act provided permanent funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and addressed maintenance backlogs in our National Parks. Overall, the legislation gave much-needed aid for conservation activities across the country.

In this episode of "The Right Voices," C3 Solutions Co-Founder John Hart chats with Congressman Frank Lucas about responsible energy solutions that everyone can support.

As anyone following the issues of climate change and the environment knows, the political landscape is changing. What was once a topic dominated by the center-left has now been embraced by conservatives and Republicans alike. The most recent example was the launching just last month of the Conservative Climate Caucus.

Rep. Lucas joined the Climate Caucus, driven by his first-hand experience farming.

“I come at this subject matter not just as a member of Congress, but as a farmer… weather patterns are changing. As a farmer, a rancher, I watch the rainfall very closely, watch the weather patterns, how much grass we produce, what kind of crops we can raise, when we can plant, and when we can harvest, and weather patterns are changing. Now, I think it’s important to acknowledge that weather patterns are changing because of global industrial activity.”

While changing weather patterns may seem challenging, Lucas believes that we “can’t just put [our] head in the sand. [We’ve] got to respond.”
