Mal Evans knew the Beatles from their earliest days. He was a bouncer at The Cavern Club. And from there, his friendship and his working relationship with the group only grew. (You might remember seeing him in the Peter Jackson film, "Get Back," where Paul asks him to run out and buy an anvil.)

While Mal unfortunately didn't live long enough to tell his story, he left notes and combined with additional research, Kenneth Womack has written, "Living the Beatles Legend: The Untold Story of Mal Evans." We talked with Kenneth about writing the book and all his other work in studying John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Glen Matlock was famously fired from the Sex Pistols for, supposedly, owning a Beatles record. Well, Glen has put that musical use to knowledge over the past 40 or so years. He's got a new solo album out called Consequences Coming that's just as angry and fun as any Pistols song. (Plus we talk about his work with Blondie and the recently concluded Iggy Pop tribute show.)

In 1972, Elephant's Memory found out that they had a visitor to their practice space. It was this English musician with his wife, who were looking for some folks to jam with. And so, bassist Gary Van Scyoc and the rest of the band found themselves playing with John Lennon and Yoko Ono for the next few years.

We got to talk with Gary about his fascinating career, what it was like playing with John (and having your first performance be on national television with Chuck Berry), as well as what it was like just being around such a legendary couple.

In her career as a writer and reporter, Laurie Kaye had the opportunity to speak with some of the biggest names in music.

And her biggest interview was on December 8th, 1980. That's when she sat down and talked with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Only a few short hours after their interview, John was shot and killed outside his apartment, making Laurie's interview his last.

The joy of their time together and the guilt and sadness over his death have stayed with Laurie ever since that terrible day in New York.

Alan Hewitt is a fascinating musician with a fascinating career.

He started out co-producing with Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire and in 1990 had a hit record when he co-wrote and played on Warrant's Cherry Pie. These days, Alan writes scores for TV and film. He also tours with The Moody Blues, where he's been involved with them since 2010. He also has his own band, Alan Hewitt & One Nation, who have released two singles in the past year and are gearing up for a new album.

You may not know the name, but you will definitely know the voice.

Dolette McDonald has toured the world, singing on stage and on record with musicians like Talking Heads, The Police, Don Henley, the Rolling Stones, Sting and Juan Gabriel.

Her role as a back up singer gave her an interesting look at the behind the scenes of a large-scale tour as she continued to grow and learn about herself and her music. Dolette was great fun to talk with.

This week we talked with the legendary Steve Cropper.

"Hey, hold on a minute Slappy(s)," we hear you say. "'Legendary' is strong words." You're right, it is. But when you're talking about someone who co-wrote "Green Onions," and "Soul Man" and "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," forgive us for throwing around the 'L' word.

Steve has a new record out called "Fire It Up," and it does what he has done his entire career; it rocks. We talked with Steve about the new album, but we also talked about what it was like at Stax Records (!) during their heyday. We also talked about his friend (!!) Otis Redding.

What else can we tell you? Steve was great fun and very kind (it's that southern gentleman thing) AND told us what a bush hog is. What more do you want to know?

You may know Greg Gilmore from his work in the influential band Mother Love Bone. But, before he joined them, he played in a punk band called The Living with a young bassist & songwriter named Duff McKagan. (Recognize that name?) They were considered an incredibly influential Seattle punk band. Now, one or two years or so after they broke up, the studio recording by this early group is being released.The Living 1982, is a record of several young artists finding their voice before the rest of us got the chance to listen in.

Dr Bokar has studied the history of music prior to the 1880s, (the date most musical experts cite as the birth of jazz) and has done the research to offer a look at the historical basis on which jazz was built.

John Ellison is music royalty. As a member of the Soul Brothers Six, John wrote Some Kind of Wonderful, a song that became an instant classic and that has been covered by the likes of Q-Tip, Joss Stone, Conway Twitty and, of course, Grand Funk Railroad.

We talked with John in the summer of 2020, in the midst of the Black Lives Matter protests, and learned about John's story and the song he wrote inspired by the racial inequality in the United States called (Wake Up Call) Black Like Me.
