One of the unexpected blessings of hosting Amazing Greats has been discovering that many of our guests’ stories don’t end when we stop recording.

In fact, some of the most remarkable chapters happen after the interview is over.

Over the past four years, we’ve had the privilege of sharing the testimonies of athletes, authors, musicians, actors, and business leaders, whose lives have been shaped by God’s grace. While each episode captures a moment in time, God’s work continues long after the microphones are turned off.

That’s why, from time to time, I’d love to bring you back to visit some of these familiar friends and hear what God has been doing since we first met them.

Today we’re revisiting one of the most memorable guests we’ve ever featured—commercial pilot Ted Greenfield, founder of Invisible Angels.

If you remember Episode 77 from September 2025, you probably remember being amazed by Ted’s extraordinary journey. God called him to launch a ministry that provides safe air transportation for survivors of human trafficking, helping move rescued victims to safe houses, medical care, family reunification, and new beginnings. It was a story filled with unexpected turns, impossible circumstances, and one unmistakable theme: God’s faithful provision.

Since that conversation, God has continued writing Ted’s story.

Recently, Ted reached out and said, “Ric, I have to tell you what happened.”

What followed was another reminder that our God is never finished working behind the scenes—and that His timing, provision, and creativity often leave us shaking our heads in amazement.

Thus...this short bonus update.

A storm with towering waves has a way of stripping life down to what’s real. Indiana Pacers, NBA Dreams, and God’s Game Plan with Ryan Carr

Imagine not making your high school varsity basketball team, standing just 5’7”, and thinking your dream of making it in the game you love is unrealistic. That was Ryan Carr’s reality. But what seemed hopeless, was really the beginning of a bigger story—one that would take him from writing a bold letter to coaching legend Bobby Knight, to working side-by-side with Larry Bird, and eventually to his role as Senior Vice President of Player Personnel for the Indiana Pacers. Steve Siler has written hundreds of songs , nine of them were #1 Christian Contemporary songs and 45 of them top 10. His songs have been recorded by some of the countries biggest stars...Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, Patty Labelle, the Oak Ridge boys and others. To say the very least his song wrting skills are a true gift from God.

Born out of his love of music at a very early age, combined with finding his way to Jesus as a teen was the fertile ground for what turned out to be his life's work.
Although he loved writing Christian hits, he found his special niche in writing songs that address the challenges of our current culture: eating disorders, body imaging, pornography, anxiety, additions, alzheimers, cancer and much more.

Jesse Butterworth: Musician Blessed with the Gift of Music

Hearing Christian stories in their triumphs and challenges is always inspiring. In this episode we're tracking the journey of musician, songwriter, worship team member and church planter, Jesse Butterworth. While many Christian lives start with their roots in early family life, most blossom later as we grow, mature and come to a true relationship with Jesus, in a real way. And every story is unique. Jesse's "moment" came in a dorm room listening to James Taylor.

It was at this same Christian College that he hooked up with 3 other like-minded musician "want-to-be's" and started a rag tag rock and roll band that led to an early signing to a record label, recording in Nashville and an album that won them multiple DOVE award nominations and a chance to play on the televised Dove Awards show. "Strength in weakness" with Joe Wankelman

God "shows off" with powerful miracles in the lives and stories of his people. And that is what the Amazing Greats podcast does; shares those stories.

Joe Wankelman's story is an inspiring showcase of God's goodness. From a childhood of drama with his mother pretty much disappearing and his dad self focused, he was mostly raised by a caring grandmother. Joe didn't read until he was in 7th grade...graduated with a 1.9 GPA and was called "stupid" by many throughout his years growing up and even labeled himself with that.
This story is a modern day showcase of what the Bible says: In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul quotes Jesus who said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Wankelman's early challenges were God's opportunity to demonstrate his miracle power. Joe became one of the few highly skilled pilots of one of the worlds most sophisticated aircraft, the Apache helicopter, and flew multiple heroic missions in combat during the "war on terror" after 9/11, hitting precision targets and saving many American soldier's lives on the ground. As he describes it, he and the Apache became a unique team of man and machine. He is truly an American hero. Santana to Hosanna with Leon Patillo

He was the lead singer of one of the worlds most popular rock bands, and hung out with the likes of Smokey Robinson, The Pointer Sisters, Earth Wind and Fire and more. Leon Patillo was the lead singer for Santana and his music career was legendary. In the late 70's his life pivoted and he made the dramatic switch to what turned out to be the very beginnings of Contemporary Christian Music. Creating music that worshiped God with lyrics of praise in a totally new musical form with catchy choruses and rock band styling. Drums, electric guitars and electronic keyboards helped to bring the word of God to a whole new generation. And it all started as a kid on a homemade cardboard keyboard.

Leon worked closely with Bill Graham, the concert promoter, and then Billy Graham the evangelist. From being baptized by the renowned pastor who was at the heart of the Jesus Revolution, Chuck Smith, to a concert tour in Ukraine, and the launch of a program for Kids, called SING...Leon's story has Jesus all over it.

A movie about his fascinating life and the true story of a bullied suicidal teen are in the works, likely to be released in 2025.

" The Eve Of Destruction" launched Barry McGuire's God story

Barry McGuire rocked the world of Top 40 music with a brash, scathing depiction of a world in turmoil. His number one hit song "Eve of Destruction" focused on the chaos surrounding the Vietnam war , the draft, Nuclear weapons, civil rights, and communism. It was so controversial, some radio stations and some countries banned the song from the airwaves. It jumped to the the top of billboard magazine in 1965, bumping the Beatles "Help" out of the number one spot.

Although that song helped Barry McGuire capture a place in rock history, his life story is a slice out of the American music narrative. McGuire was a key player in the very early days of folk and rock music. He started with the New Christie Minstrels, hung out with the best of the best musicians in LA, was a singer song writer and produced 26 albums, acted in movies, was part of the cast of the Broadway smash, 'HAIR' and was a devoted follower of Jesus from 1971 to today.

Young people at Asbury University and dozens of other college campuses across the country are experiencing a movement of love and connection with Jesus that has grabbed the attention of people around the world. Not unlike the Jesus movement of the 60s and 70s a youth revival seems to have taken shape.
On this episode of Amazing Greats, Pastor Doug Hankins a theological revival historian, shares his unique perspective on this awakening by taking us on a day trip to Asbury in the midst of the recent revival. An event that grew organically out of a typical Chapel service on the Morning of February 8th 2023. An event that lasted over 300 hours and 16 days. It wasn't programmed or planned, it was not well produced and slick, there were no celebrity singers or guest speakers. It was a raw outpouring of God's grace where the X Factor was clearly the presence of Jesus.

A new music industry blossomed when radio stations began giving Christian Music artists a platform to reach millions nationwide. In a world where Christian radio was dominated by pay-for-play teaching and preaching programs one guy had a new idea. His name is Bob Anthony. He was team mates with Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey and the rest of the Great 8 from the Cincinnati Reds world series winning 1975 and 76 team . He'll share the excitement of those years, the trauma of baseball trades, the power of a 40 year marriage and the challenges of cancer.

Doug shares the heart breaking story of his sister's disappearance, his life changing Christian journey with "Professional Athletes Outreach" and how he went from an upbringing in the Baptist church to an awesome relationship with Jesus. As he says, you can only trick people into believing you're a Christian for so long. Then it becomes real.

A three time Olympian, and first high schooler to break the four minute mile (3:59), is here to share his unlikely life journey, that started with a nightly prayer. You'll hear how "playing church" as a youngster changed forever when he became a "real Christian".

In this episode, Jim Ryun shares the inspiring details of his AMAZING story and his walk with Jesus. You'll hear about the ups and downs, the life lessons and the athletic triumphs that the whole world was buzzing about in the 60's and 70s that landed him on the cover of Sports Illustrated multiple times as he became know as the "Master of the Mile". Later he served 5 terms in the US congress, representing the 2nd district of his home state of Kansas and in 2020 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor.
