ROBI QUICK is a bundle of energy. If you took a blender and threw in passion, enthusiasm, magnetism, talent, and a go-getter attitude, you would get Robi Quick. Robi is the Chief Entertainment Officer for RQ Entertainment, currently serving Sacramento and Placer Counties. But here's the thing ... he is willing to go anywhere to do his thing. He's an auctioneer. He's an emcee. He has worked as a pastor. He could host game shows. He is even testing his skills as a DJ. Bottom line ... Robi is multi-talented.

In today's episode, Robi and I passionately discuss his journey. Robi moves fast so it's important to stay locked in because you don't want to miss the nuggets of gold that Quick has to offer entrepreneurs who are looking for direction or a dose of inspiration.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Robi: "What I love about Robi is that he is who he is. Nothing different. And his talent is top shelf. When I say he could literally do anything, I mean it. I enjoy his honesty as it relates to his own journey of finding out how to showcase his talents in the different arenas we discuss."

Our Connection | While we weren't able to get to it in this episode, my journey with Robi started in 2016 when we both attended Bayside Church in Granite Bay. Robi was a youth pastor and I quickly saw his incredible gift. Because we both enjoy the same type of things professionally (auctions + emcee work), we stayed in touch over the years.

NICK PECORARO is giving Sacramento High School sports the coverage it deserves. He has been a one-man band in the game since the early 2000s. With stints on the print side and the television side (most recently with Cal-Hi Sports), Pecoraro knows high school sports. And now he has his own YouTube Channel that showcases high school sports in the area.

In today's episode, we learn about Nick's journey and why he is ALL IN with his adventure. While it requires a lot of planning and hard work, he LOVES what he does. While today's conversation is about the entrepreneur side of what Nick does, it is also a plea to small businesses to get behind Premier Preps as a sponsor so that high school sports in this area can be adequately highlighted.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Nick: "High School sports needs Nick Pecoraro! Those in the area know the legend of Joe Davidson from the Sacramento Bee (featured in ETB Episode No. 19)." Nick brings the same kind of passion and has a diverse set of skills to bring high school sports to life."

Our Connection | My connection with Nick came courtesy of a connection from good friend Lauren Neff. She knew I had the podcast and knew that we would hit it off. She was right!

AMELIA RUSH decided to go from being an ABA Therapist to the Queen of Balloon Creations in the Greater Sacramento area. A pivot happened a few years ago for this mother of two daughters. And let's say that she isn't looking back. Within this description of Amelia is a model of taking that chance to make a big career move. Yes! Amelia is an ENTREPRENEUR by all definitions of the word.

In today's episode, we discuss what was behind Amelia's decision. And then we pull back the curtain on the balloon creation business. Before this conversation I had a lot of fun questions.

How many balloons does it take to create different projects?
What about inclement weather?
Where do you purchase you balloons?
How many colors are there?
How did you learn such a fun craft?

Let's find out together.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Amelia: "I love how Amelia made the pivot. She wanted the freedom to control her schedule, and she found a way to do it. Taking the leap is no easy feat. And that is why this conversation is so important for other young entrepreneurs to experience. I am looking forward to inspiration!"

Our Connection | I ran into Amelia two years ago at a school auction. There she was installing her balloon creation. What I realized is that this was the same Amelia (Sargis) that I taught in one of my first years at St. Michael's in 1994. Talk about an OG Full Circle moment.

TAYLOR AVAKIAN embodies the heart of an entrepreneur. Avakian is a Nor Cal native (who graduated from Jesuit High School in 2014 and the University of Alabama in 2018). Still, his latest work occurs in Southern California, where he helps multifamily owners buy and sell properties. And at age 28, with just six years in the business, Taylor has amassed over 300 million dollars in sales. He founded Group CRE and recently joined forces with Lyon Stahl Investment Real Estate. Simply put, Avakian is a force regarding Southern Cal properties.

So how did he do it? I'm glad you asked because if you are a young entrepreneur, you are going to get an inside look at Taylor's journey to success. Get ready to know what hard work and honoring the grind looks like. There are no shortcuts. Avakian is proof of that.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Taylor: "As an entrepreneur, it brings me joy to see what Taylor is doing with his life. He is showing that old-school values never go away. He had a passion. He found a way to get in. And with hard work and many dedicated hours, he paved his path. That gets me fired up!"

Our Connection | Taylor and my oldest son Toph went to school together, starting in Kindergarten at Mariemont. They graduated together from St. Michael's (2010) and Jesuit High School (2014). When it comes to youth sports, Avakian was on every one of the teams that I coached. You will see why I act like a proud dad during this episode!

DR. JULIE ALLEN has a brilliant idea! First some history. Back in the 1930's, doctors made 'house calls' for 40 percent of their patients. By the 1980's, that number went down to 0.6 percent due to office-centered medicine and mega-health systems. So I ask? What would you prefer to have when it comes to having access to your doctor.

Say hello to Dr. Julie. With 10 years of Urgent Care Experience and equipped with her grandfather's medical bag, Julie is bringing back 'house calls' and today I want to put a BIG SPOTLIGHT on what I believe is a brilliant idea. How does this look? That is what we uncover in our conversation.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Julie Allen: "Julie has a brilliant idea that I feel that is going to take off and be the new wave of families and individuals who need a doctor. I love the idea so much that I have become one of Julie's patients. This is going to be big and you will see this idea spread nationwide."

Our Connection | I have had the honor of teaching both of Julie's boys, Eli and Theo, while I was a teacher at St. Michael's. Her sons also have attended my Buzzardball Summer Hoop Camp and have participated in my Winter Basketball League. I am a BIG fan of Julie and her family!

CHRISTIAN DYER is a professional rugby player and podcaster. He loves his family and he loves where he comes from. The Carmichael native wasn't physical in size growing up, but he was introduced to rugby as a 7th Grader. Let's say the rest is history. National Championships at Jesuit High School and Cal. He has played for Team USA and is currently a member of the Houston Sabercats in Major League Rugby. In addition, he hosts a podcast called "The Chase."

But ... I am only scratching the surface. That's why today's episode will leave you inspired and rooting for Christian's success!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Christian Dyer: "To hear him talk about rugby is one thing. What he has done with his platform using rugby as a vehicle makes me proud of who Christian has become as a young man. He gets it, and it shows."

Our Connection | I have been friends with the Dyer family for over 20 years. I saw a young Christian participate in my Buzzardball Youth Basketball program. Just recently, I was the DJ for his sister Maddie's wedding. Once we reconnected at the celebration, I knew this podcast had to happen.

THIS WEEK IS FUN! Today, I am excited to share EIGHT (8) Key Takeaways that have been instrumental in my journey as an entrepreneur. I could share them in the notes, but that would defeat the purpose of having you listen to the podcast. So buckle in and get ready for some good knowledge.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on today's episode: "I believe today will be instrumental for all entrepreneurs. You will either nod your head in agreement. Or it might be just one of the eight tips that will inspire a spark in your entrepreneur career."

NEXT WEEK | I am excited for Episode 136! I had a chance to connect with Christian Dyer. Christian, who hails from Carmichael, California, is a professional rugby player who starred at Jesuit High School and Cal Berkeley. In addition, Dyer starred with Team USA 🇺🇸. We discuss his rugby journey and what he has been able to create as a result of the sport he loves to play.

EXPERIENCE THE BUZZ IS BACK! After a brief break, Host Steve Buzzard and the Experience the Buzz Podcast return, bringing unique insights and captivating stories to and from entrepreneurs.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on the return: "I have been itching to get back to hosting ETB. The time away has allowed me the necessary space to push the reset button and come back more inspired and encouraged to use ETB as a necessary platform for those who call themselves entrepreneurs OR are exploring the entrepreneur world.

And we have a NEW LOGO! Excitement is an understatement. I wanted to kick off the return with two solo episodes that mean a lot to me.

Solo Episode Breakdown |  Three key moments that helped shape my entrepreneur career.

2002 | Being released by the Sacramento Kings as a member of the radio broadcast team.

2015 | FOUR big things happened in this year.
No. 1 -- I accepted a job as P.E. Teacher and Athletic Director at Sacred Heart, but ended up staying at St. Michael's (where I had been since 1994). I accepted the Athletic Director position.
No. 2 -- I had a company interested in expanding my Buzzardball Summer Basketball Camp. Let's say it didn't end up well.
No. 3 -- I had an individual interested in putting my Buzzardball Winter Basketball League in all the NBA cities. Again, didn't work out well.
No. 4 -- I went ALL IN into Network Marketing with a company called ACN. Lasted one year.

2024 | Denied the opportunity to be selected as a finalist for the Head of School position at St. Michael's

All THREE moments were pivotal and MANY lessons were learned.

BRIAN KATZ knew he wanted to write a book the day he retired in November 2021. After 40+ years in the world of basketball, Katz found a way. to honor his former players and his family. Thus "A Season More Traveled" was born and by the looks of it, this book is truly a deep and unique look into life as a basketball coach.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Brian Katz "When we did our first podcast back in December of 2021, Brian was still fresh out of retirement. To see him almost three years later in a place where he can experience the joy of his family and former players, I simply think he deserves it.

Our Connection | Brian and I go way back to his days of coaching at Center High School. I was the point guard for Christian Brothers, who scored 12 points in the first half against his Center team that featured former NBA player Rich Manning. Apparently I was too cocky. Coach Ron McKenna benched me and I didn't see the floor again.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Graham Honig "I love knowing young people like Graham. I have watched this kid grow up and he is a tremendous young man who 'gets it.'  This conversation was so fun because it was just that ... a conversation!"

Our Connection |  I have known Graham and his family since he was a youngster roaming the halls at St. Ignatius School. Everything came full circle when I had the opportunity to be the DJ at Graham and Nicole's wedding in September 2020.

Now how she got to be one of the most sought after dog groomers in Sacramento was a very unorthodox journey. And that is the beauty of her story. Get ready to get educated about dog grooming. There are a lot of things that Cheyenne unpacks for us in today's episode.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Cheyenne Simon "When I take our dog Minnie to see Cheyenne, I have a full peace that she will be taken care of when she is there. That speaks to the professionalism, the quality, and the care Cheyenne exudes in her work."

Our Connection |  We have been taking our dog Minnie to Pampered Paws for quite some time now. In the last few months when I would pick up Minnie, I inquired to Cheyenne about being in the podcast. I am glad she said 'yes.'

DUSTIN HUGHES  is the bullpen catcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. Dustin has lived this life season-in, season-out since 2008. He started with the Sacramento River Cats and then landed his first MLB job with the Florida Marlins. His second team was the Cincinnati Reds before landing in his current destination with the Oakland A's. So what does the life of a bullpen catcher in the MLB look like? Let's find out together

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Dustin Hughes|  "I am fascinated by this life that Dustin lives. We often think about the players who are on the field, but don't realize there are so many people like Dustin who are critical to the player's success behind the scenes."

Our Connection |  Credit goes to my son Max who told me one day that a father at Sacred Heart School in East Sacramento (where Max works) was the bullpen catcher for the Oakland A's. I am now a part of the Sacred Heart community for one year as the P.E. Teacher and Athletic Director. So it was a no-brainer that I make the connection with Dustin and get him on the podcast to talk about my favorite sport!

MAUI is a beautiful destination for thousands of families who want to experience paradise and the "Aloha Spirit." My family and I (my wife, three kids, my oldest son's wife, and our granddaughter) made the trip to Maui during the first week of August. The first few days were as expected. Beautiful. Relaxing. On Tuesday August 8th, the day started with no power. What would happen from there would be something we as a family have never experienced and would change us forever. Today, I share that story.

I took the time on the flight back to try to write down as much as I could about what had happened. While today's talking story is about our experience, at the forefront are those that lost their lives, lost loved ones, lost their businesses, and essentially have had to start over wondering what happened and how did this tragedy happen so quickly.

ETHAN MINTON is not your normal 12-year old. In fact, I would call him wise beyond his years. With the help of his mom Meleasa, Ethan took the Covid pandemic to turn his love for reading into something special. On ETrainTalks.Com, this soon-to-be middle schooler does it all. Reviews books. Visits schools. Hosts his own podcast interviewing book authors. And through all of this he has found a way to give back by organizing book drives. Like I said, he is wise beyond his years.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Ethan |  "I love being able to talk to young people like Ethan. They represent the hope I have in the future. This young man has a bright future and I can't wait to see what lies on the road ahead for Ethan."

Our Connection |  We have a few. Ethan has participated in my Buzzardball Summer League Basketball program. I will also be the DJ for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah.

LAUREN WRIGHT cannot wait until July 1st. That will start the beginning of her journey as the owner of Tricks Gymnastics. And the bonus is that she will share ownership with her husband Brian. The couple of almost two years met at Tricks. Lauren just celebrated her 11th Anniversary with Tricks. Put it all together and it's, in my eyes, a recipe for success!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Lauren Wright |  "How exciting is this? To be able to speak to someone like Lauren, who is ready to celebrate something pretty special. Small business ownership with her husband Brian. There is no doubt that this dynamic duo will take an already successful Tricks franchise to a whole new level."

Our Connection |  Well ... I will start with that my kids, who attended Tricks as youngsters (which has been in business since 1990). While Lauren hadn't arrived on the scene yet, I met Lauren and Brian at a backyard party I was hosting as a DJ. Conversation led to an invitation to be the DJ at Lauren + Brian's wedding. Epic it was on October 8th, 2021 at Haggin Oaks Pavilion. We have been friends since!

GREG MOLINA is the lead vocalist for Sacramento Metalcore band "A Moments Notice." Formed in October 2021, Molina and his group are rising fast in the heavy metal world. And they are from SACRAMENTO! So cool. Greg shares everything about the band and his amazing journey that includes the introduction to hard core in his teens to his stint in the Army where he was in the same Ops Group that was featured in the movie "Blackhawk Down" to having a family and NOW being exactly where he was meant to be!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Greg Molina |  "This is absolute bucket list material for me. As much as I love heavy metal myself, I have always wondered how screamers are able to sustain their voice the way they do. Today is that day and so much more."

Our Connection |  Chance indirect encounter. Greg is a barber at Jimmy's Garage downtown. On the same day, my son Max and I were getting a haircut. While I was with Travis, Max was with Greg. Max told me afterward that Greg was a lead singer of a band. On our way home, we looked up the band, played their song "Offerings" and were blown away. I reached out to Greg via Instagram and here we are!

ANCIL HOFFMAN Golf Course is a gem when it comes to golf courses in the greater Sacramento area! Located in the heart of a park near the American River, Ancil Hoffman offers a beautiful track for its players. Today ETB speaks to General Manager Asa Jennings, who gives us a behind-the-curtain look at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. You will get the history, the Hole 1-18 layout, the amenities, and the personal story of Jennings. This is the first of what we hope are many golf course spotlights on Experience the Buzz.

NOTE | Something New on Experience the Buzz 🐝
Today represents the first installment of our GOLF COURSE SPOTLIGHT series. We hope to use today's episode as a blueprint to highlight other amazing golf courses in the Greater Sacramento area and beyond. I want to thank my son Toph Buzzard for helping set up this interview and being a part of the fun. Stay tuned!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Ancil Hoffman Golf Course |  "It made sense that we started this new series with Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. Bias aside, it truly is the best golf course in the area and for the right price. It has iconic holes and is a great golf course to walk. Excited to share it with you."

Our Connection |  I grew up playing Mather AFB and Cordova Golf Course. When I got married and moved into the Carmichael area, I gravitated toward Ancil Hoffman and let's just say ... it was love at first sight! In addition, Jennings knows my dad Mel Buzzard from his days of running Mather Golf Course. Small world 🌎.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD and PRODUCER MICHAEL KNOBBE are the force behind Sacramento's rising podcast called Experience the Buzz. With over 100 guests who have been the show, ETB takes a pause. A pause to reflect on the podcasts beginnings and where ETB is headed. And the episode comes with a little twist. Knobbe is the host and Buzzard will do his best not to step on his toes. Fun episode!

Our Connection |  Michael and I met during the pandemic and worked together on three virtual auctions. Michael, who was living in Southern California, decided to move to Northern California. Knobbe, who enjoys the podcast format, reached out and asked if the show would like a producer. Without hesitation, Buzzard said yes and the rest is history.

STEVIE MAITA is just 11 years old. When he was eight years old, he started going to the golf range with his grandpa. That sparked a passion that now has resulted in three years of tournament play. He has two Hole-in-Ones! His first tournament win was at Bing Maloney. He played in 41 tournaments last year that included trips to Texas, Washington, and a lot of stints in San Diego. And this August, Maita will be returning to play in the U.S. Kids' Golf World Championship at Pinehurst. That's right the same Pinehurst that has hosted both the Men's and Women's U.S. Open as well as the Ryder Cup. So how does he do it? That question and more are answered today.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Stevie Maita |  "As a former teacher, this is the fun part! Getting to see kids like Stevie enjoy success outside of my classroom. Now usually this part comes when my former students are adults, but Stevie is an exception. Doing something BIG at a YOUNG age. I love it!"

Our Connection |  I had the privilege of being Stevie's P.E. teacher while teaching at St. Michael's. Stevie was also a participant in my Buzzardball Youth Basketball program.

AMY BROWN is the CEO and Founder of Instaphysique. Brown has carved her niche in Sacramento with a unique fitness experience that involves the MEGAFORMER. Instaphysique has two locations in Sacramento and Roseville. For seven years and running, Brown has navigated through a pandemic. Brown was inspired by the Lagree Fitness Method that Amy was introduced to in 2006 while she lived in Southern California. The Sac High graduate took that knowledge and her experience to open Instaphysique seven years. One location in Sacramento quickly became two locations (Roseville). And there is talk of possibly a third location. Entrepreneurs ... I encourage you to tune into this episode. You are going to learn a lot.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Amy Brown |  "It is so rewarding to see small business owners like Amy succeed. She has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with in the Capital City. And by that, I mean other business owners should be seeking her out for how to run a successful business."

Our Connection |  I know Amy because of her son Jayden who has been a long-time attender of my basketball summer camp and participant in my winter and summer league. We have had a lot of great conversations about being a small business owner.

BEN LANDERS loves teaching Physical Education. The passion that started in 2007 in South Carolina has developed into something very special. Not only does he teach K-5 P.E. to a school of 500 kids at River Springs Elementary, but he has served many PE teachers across the world with his creation of THE PE SPECIALIST. Developed in 2014, Landers started putting all of his work through video into a business model that offered a membership in 2016. His presence on YouTube and Instagram has produced a large community of PE teachers across the world. The buy-in to Ben is easy. It was for me. Today we get an inside look at Ben's journey. While he may not be from Sacramento, this 16-year P.E. teacher has a lot to offer in today's episode!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Ben Landers |  "Having used his material when I was a P.E. teacher in my final five years (2015-2020), it was an honor to have Ben join us to help pull the curtain back on such a fun profession."

Our Connection |  I came across Ben's work in 2015 when I attended a P.E. Conference in Sacramento. Once I logged onto his website at THEPESPECIALIST.COM, I was all in. His material and resources helped me take the P.E. program at St. Michael's in Carmichael, CA to another level.

SAM MAYO knew at a very young age that his life was going to have to do with Disneyland. Loaded with great memories as a kid turned into becoming a cast member for the Happiest Place on Earth in January 2020. So what does that look like? And what is the journey entail? Today we find that out. In fact, Mayo left the lovely confines of Disneyland and California Adventure to move to Maui and work at Aulani, the Disney Resort located in Hawaii. There is a reason for all of it. Let's just say big things are in the near future for Sam.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Sam Mayo |  "This is so bucket list for me. The Buzzard family LOVES Disneyland! So to have someone I know who works for them and is so passionate about the company ... I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have this conversation.

Our Connection |  I met Sam when he was a student at St. Ignatius in Sacramento. Essentially just watched him grow up as he moved onto Jesuit High School. It has been fun watching his journey as a Disney Cast Member.

JIM SWANEY is my brother-in-law. Have you figured out the pattern? Three family members. All three are pastors. Jim is Tyler Swaney's father and Craig Olson's father-in-law. Pretty impressive, huh? Yet, their stories are all completely different in terms of how they got to where they are today. For Jim, being the pastor of a church was something he always wanted to do, but it didn't come as quickly as he may have planned. The good news is that his patience and faithfulness paid off when he became the Senior Pastor of Sebastopol Christian Church. His story comes your way.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Jim Swaney |  "Jim is a big part of my spiritual journey. When I became a Christian at age 30, Jim was the person I leaned on for answers about the Bible and being a believer. It made a big difference and I am proud to call him family."

Our Connection |  This one is also simple. Jim is my brother-in-law. His wife Lisa is the oldest of  four sisters. The youngest of those sisters is my beautiful wife Kristin. Lucky me!

CRAIG OLSON is my nephew-in-law. Like my nephew Tyler Swaney, Craig is also a pastor. In six years, he will be the Senior Pastor of Crossroads Christian Church in Corona, California. Where Tyler knew he wanted to be a pastor, Craig has a different story. And that's what makes today's conversation so good. A Southern California native, Craig's journey brought him and his family to Northern California where he worked alongside Pastor Brian Hopkins at Bayside Folsom. And his love for Alabama and the Buffalo Bills? We find out how that happened in today's episode.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Craig Olson |  "I remember when we found out that Craig was going to be a part of our family when he asked my niece Christina to marry him. We were pumped. I love his energy and he is fun to hang out with. My bucket list item with Craig is to watch an Alabama game with him."

Our Connection |  This one is also simple. Tyler is my nephew-in-law. He married my niece Christina Olson. I had the honor of being the DJ for their wedding in Southern California. It was epic. And the 3.5 years in Northern California were a lot of fun!

TYLER SWANEY is my nephew. At 33, he is currently the Senior Campus Pastor for Bayside Church in Orange County. Tyler's infectious energy and positivity combined with his faith have been the catalyst for this amazing journey. He knew at a young age that this is what he would be doing. He grew up in the church. His father Jim is a pastor. Along with his mother Lisa, Tyler experienced life as a missionary. Today is part of a three-part series where I speak with three family members. They are all pastors. This is a great way to kick it off. I am excited for you to hear today's episode.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Tyler Swaney |  "Three things that are consistent through our conversation today. Prayer. People. And the power of relationships. I really hope you are able to take something away from what is a powerful conversation. Safe to say. I am a proud uncle!"

JON ROOT is the HYPE guy! He did it successfully for the Oakland A's (as the Pie Guy), Azusa Pacific (he led the Zu Student Fan Section), the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Single A for L.A. Dodgers), and the San Jose Sharks. Root, a Del Oro High School Graduate, LOVES sports! That was going to be his career. And then Covid hit. And then the division happened. Jon is unashamed to say that he is conservative in his beliefs. But that hasn't always been the case. And in today's episode, Jon shares his journey through the navigation of getting where he is today where he can openly express views that aren't often shared in the sports world. Root is that voice.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Jon Root |  "His talent is top shelf. He has shown that in the work that he has already done. What I see right now is a new chapter that Jon is writing that combines two things that are dear to his heart -- his FAITH and sports."  Our conversation hits THREE areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | TBA
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | TBA
• SEGMENT 3  ★  | TBA

Our Connection |  I was able to meet Jon for the first time when my son started attending Azusa Pacific University. I continued to follow Jon when he starred as the Pie Guy for the Oakland A's in 2012 and his great work with the San Jose Sharks.

EPISODE 106 is a perfect time to catch up with one-half of the Banter Bros Max Buzzard. Father and son are talking sports. We hit it all! Kings, World Cup, Baseball, Las Vegas Raiders, USC, and Sac State (Stingers Up!). Heavy Metal Thunder makes its return with a look at a classic -- Sacramento's own Tesla and their 1986 debut album "Mechanical Resonance."

 Our BANTER hits three areas:

• SEGMENT 1 🏀 ⚽️⚾️ | Max and I kick it off with the City's Team, the Sacramento Kings. Light the beam baby! This year's team is a breath of fresh air. We give our thoughts on the USA's showing in the World Cup and we finish out with baseball with a respectful nod to Dusty Baker and the Houston Astros (still cheaters) and the crazy free agent market.
• SEGMENT 2 🏈 |  The final segment highlights everything football. Las Vegas Raiders, USC (almost made the playoff), and our local squad, the Sac State Hornets 🐝.
• SEGMENT 3 🤘🏼| HEAVY METAL THUNDER is back! Today highlights Tesla and their iconic debut album, "Mechanical Resonance."

Our Connection |  Max is my son. Haha. That one was easy!

SCOTT ABBOTT heads up an amazing team  at the Sacramento Running Association that organizes the California International Marathon. The CIM takes place the first Sunday in December and has been doing so successfully for 39 years. And this year is set to break all records with over 10,000 runners to toe the start line in Folsom, California. Scott is a decorated runner himself and has made that world his career. Sacramento is fortunate to have someone like Scott at the helm. You will love today's conversation covering a lot of fun topics!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Scott |  "Scott is a tremendous leader and is the catalyst for the running community in Sacramento. He has found a way to bring the running world together on all levels.. And then on top of that ... he is in charge of the CIM. One word. Impressive!"  Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | is devoted to the 39th running of the California International Marathon. Scott also gives us some insight on the history and the details behind this amazing marathon featured in Sacramento.
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | focuses on Scott's work with the Sacramento Running Association. We then find out the personal side of Scott. His upbringing. How he found the love for running. Dr. Pepper. And Fantasy Baseball!

Our Connection |  Scott and I go way back. We met at St. Michael's where we taught together. As Scott became a part of the Sacramento Running Association, he invited me to call races. That started with my first CIM Finish Line assignment in 2015. It's been a great run! And fun fact ... I was the DJ for Scott and his wife Katie's wedding!

Yes, the same Spataro who is one of the exclusive Executive Chefs in Sacramento. In today's episode, we unveil it all and then some.

RYAN BIGELOW is wise beyond his years. At 20 years of age, Bigelow is a great representation for the Gen Z entrepreneur. Take note. A Sacramento native, but now a resident of sunny San Diego, here is what Bigelow has on his resume. Part of Juice Plus, The Move Club, Krav Maga Academy, Personal Training, Bodybuilder, Point Loma Nazarene Media Services and Chapel Tech. One more. Music Director at Emmanuel Anglican Church. Wow! How does he do it? Today is your day to find out.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Ryan |  "It still blows my mind that Ryan is only 20 years old. You will have fun when we get to the part when he shares his daily schedule. That's all you need to know. I am proud of Ryan and know that will continue to do big things and make a difference in this world."  Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | Ryan takes us through his journey. We start from the beginning and see how going from a small pond at Sacramento Waldorf to the big sea of Jesuit High School shaped him. Bigelow shares his journey with athletics as well as his big jump to college in Southern California. We begin to speak about being an entrepreneur and how that came at an early age.
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | Begins with where Ryan is currently with his multitude of projects as a 20-year old living in Sunny San Diego. Ryan breaks down some cool things including his schedule (it's packed) as well as his thoughts about being a young Gen Z entrepreneur. Must listen, especially for you young entrepreneurs out there.

Our Connection |  Ryan stepped into my Buzzardball Summer Basketball Camp as a 4-year old basketball phenom (HaHa!). The kid loved basketball and attended my camp for his K-8 years. In addition, he became an assistant coach at my staff. He is a natural leader and natural with kids. It has been fun watching him grow up.

JACKIE COURSEY is a LIFE COACH. Her coaching has a specialty with helping those with NEURODIVERGENT functions. What is neurodivergent? I am glad you asked. Neurodiversity describes people whose brain differences affect how their brain works. That means they have different strengths and challenges from people whose brains don't have those differences. The possible differences include medical disorders, learning disabilities and other conditions (ADHD, Autism, others). What a gift. And today, Jackie shares her insight on Experience the Buzz.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Jackie |  "Jackie is an amazing woman. Four adopted children ranging from ages 14-29 . She admits to having ADHD. She has worked in the non-profit space for many years. Mix it all together and Jackie is exactly the person I would imagine who would be a successful Neurodivergent Life Coach." Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ★ | Jackie kicks off the episode by letting us know how her journey brought her to becoming an autism life coach. We get an inside look to the services Jackie provides through her business called Sacred Space coaching. We also get an education on what a life coach is and isn't. Great knowledge in this segment
• SEGMENT 2  ★  | We open the segment by talking about the kids. It's a pretty amazing story. We dive into the entrepreneur piece of Jackie's journey. And we wrap up with some miscellaneous subjects that wrap up this amazing conversation.
• SEGMENT 3 (HEAVY METAL THUNDER) 🤘🏼 | Another segment of HMT as Buzzard takes a look at the latest release by Iowa's Slipknot called, "The End, So Far." Does it measure up to Steve's love for Heavy Metal? Tune in to find out.

Our Connection |  I have known Jackie and her family for many years. I had the honor of teaching three of her four kids at St. Michael's Episcopal Day School in Carmichael, CA. It has been awhile since we last connected which made this reunion so special.

BRUCE + LORI ANAPOLSKY are part of an amazing family tradition. Since 1922, Julius Clothing has been in business in Sacramento. It started in 1922 when Grandfather Julius Anapolsky opened what is called a haberdashery on K Street. Bruce's parents Sam and Sharon took over the business in the 70's. Sacramento's Staple in High End Fashion was in Country Club Plaza before landing in its current home at Pavilions in Sacramento. Three generations! And what you will learn today will center around the 'EXPERIENCE' of walking through the doors of Julius Clothing. What a great way to celebrate Episode 100!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Bruce + Lori |  "Think about that for a second. Here I am celebrating 100 episodes in almost two years of work. And today I get to speak to a power couple here in Sacramento celebrating 100 years of a family business that has stood the test of time. It's impressive!" Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  👔 | begins with a history lesson behind the origin, formation, and growth of Julius Clothing.
• SEGMENT 2 👗 | gets into the nuts and bolts of becoming a real estate agent and starting your own company. Gray outlines the path it takes to become either a real estate agent or broker. This is great for young entrepreneurs to hear. Dana outlines everything it took to launch Gray Real Estate Team. And then we finish off with some myths about real estate agents as well as pearls of wisdom regarding being an entrepreneur.
• SEGMENT 3 (SPECIAL SEGMENT) 🐝 | to honor the 100th episode of Experience the Buzz, I reached out to my former guests and asked them to record a video about their experience on the podcast. The segment kicks off with a letter written by the show's top listener Dee Coughlin, who has listened to every episode. The videos are fun! And with that ... I THANK YOU for being a listener of the show. I look forward to bringing you the next 100 episodes!

Our Connection |  I have known Bruce and Lori for a long time. Our kids grew up together, notably their son Jordan and my son Max. I had the honor of being the DJ for Morgan's Bat Mitzvah (that one was fun). I admittedly have never been to Julius, but that is going to change after this episode. I am making the visit for sure!

EPISODE 98 My podcast journey began in January 2021. Steve Buzzard loves the podcast world. With a background in broadcasting, Buzzardball was inspired by a few friends that also had podcasts (Thank you Deirdre Fitzpatrick + David Richards)! Experience the Buzz was born with one thought in mind ... spotlight ENTREPRENEURS, SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS, and PERSONALITIES from the Capital City of Sacramento! 97 episodes later and it has been a blast! It really is an opportunity to have conversations with people I have wished that I could sit down with and hear their story. And that's exactly what ETB has done!

Today's EPISODE  has TWO segments to bring your way:

• SEGMENT 1 🐝 | Highlights the Experience the Buzz journey. Steve Buzzard discusses some of the incredible guests that have been on the program. The curtain gets pulled back into what went into making the decision to start a podcast to then following through and taking all the necessary steps to go LIVE for the first time.
• SEGMENT 2 🎸 | HEAVY METAL THUNDER Installment No. 5! Very excited to put the spotlight on a heavy metal masterpiece ... MASTODON'S "Leviathan" that houses my all-time heavy metal anthem "BLOOD AND THUNDER."

DEIRDRE FITZPATRICK has been a fixture in Sacramento TV. Since the persistent and confident graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia arrived on the scene after her first job in Des Moines, Iowa. Since 1997, Fitzpatrick has been a part of the news team at KCRA Channel 3. She started as the Weekend News Anchor doing five hours of news on her own. That transitioned into her becoming the Morning News Anchor for many years with Walt Gray and currently with Teo Torres. In addition, Fitzpatrick has covered the last 12 Olympics and hosts her own podcast called "Dying to Ask." One word: IMPRESSIVE!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Deirdre Fitzpatrick |  "Deirdre knew from a very young age what she was going to be doing in her lifetime. And through what she shares, it is fascinating and inspiring that her determination, confidence, persistence, and will got her to where she wants to be as a TV anchor." Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  📺 | focuses on Deirdre's journey to Sacramento. That's right. From watching Walter Kronkite with her dad and delivering Manhattans from mom's kitchen to landing in the Capital City in 1997.
• SEGMENT 2 📺 | looks into Deirdre's work with the OLYMPICS. It was a pivotal moment for Deirdre and what allowed her to make the decision to move to the Weekday Morning News Anchor position (after turning it down three times). We discuss her podcast "DYING TO ASK" and finish up her love for running. Overall ... a tremendous conversation that I was DYING TO HAVE with Deirdre. We did it.
• SEGMENT 3 ⚡️ | Host Steve Buzzard bring you another installment of HEAVY METAL THUNDER. Today's spotlight is on Van Halen's '5150' ... the first album featuring lead singer Sammy Hagar as the band's front man. It was VH's first album to reach NO. 1 and has a special place in the heart of the host.

Our Connection |  I thought our first connection was through our work together at the California International Marathon Expo a few years ago. No .... Deirdre reminded me that our first encounter was at a Kid Birthday Party that I hosted when her now teeanger son was 6 or 7 years old.

CLIVE SAVACOOL spent over 25 years of his life as a First Responder. Five years as a paramedic was followed by time as a firefighter and then rising to the ranks of Chief Officer and eventually Fire Chief with Garden Valley Fire in South Lake Tahoe. On May 6th, 2022, Savacool decided to walk away from it all. The decision was two-fold. The grind and the stress of being a Fire Chief was weighing heavily on Savacool daily. The other reason is why we are here. Savacool developed an APP called LogRx that helps the tracking of narcotics in the field. Hard to believe that this is still done with pen and paper around the country which would tell you ... Savacool and the LogRx team are onto something. Today we explore it all. The app and life as a firefighter.

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Clive Savacool |  "What struck me the most is Clive's ability to know when to walk away and welcome a new chapter in his life. He did that with motorcyle riding. He did that with what was a long career in firefighting. And now he is in a great space with something he invented out of his experience in the firefighting industry.  Our conversation hits TWO areas:

• SEGMENT 1  🚑 | dives into everything regarding the LogRx app. What it does. How it works. And the clients that Clive and his team have on board. We discuss the victories and the challenges that come along with developing this type of app.
• SEGMENT 2 👩🏼‍🚒 | is a full breakdown of Clive's journey as a motorcyclist, a paramedic, a firefighter, and then his work as a Chief Officer and Fire Chief. We discuss the 2021 Caldor Fire in which Clive helped put together an evacuation plan.

• SEGMENT 3 🎸 | HEAVY METAL THUNDER makes its debut as I give a FULL review of the very first metal album I purchased. Drum roll please 🥁 ... Iron Maiden's 1982 release of "Number of the Beast." Full listen, EVERYONE KNOWS THE RULES!

Our Connection |  Clive is one of the few guests that I didn't have a connection with until doing the podcast together. Clive was suggested by a mother whose son attended my Buzzardball Basketball Camp. She thought Clive would be a great guest. And you know what? She was right.

MELISSA CAMILLERI started her career as a High School English Teacher. She loved teaching and being able to connect with her students. And then an idea that started as a fundraiser turned into a small business called Shop Compliment. That was 2011 and Melissa worked hard to ensure it was a success through fostering relationships and providing an amazing product (jewelry) and message (empowering young women). Through her journey, Melissa got married to husband Nick in 2015. That was followed by two boys that started the family (No. 3 is due in 2023 and it's a GIRL!). Then the pandemic hit. Melissa used the coaching leg of her business to develop what she has today called Stand for the And Education Company. Even more amazing is that she is co-owner with business partner Angela Greaser. Greaser lives in Maine and the two have never met in person. Today we get to hear Melissa's amazing journey and this amazing business she has created that truly has her stronger and better than ever!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Melissa Camilleri |  "Melissa represents what the podcast is all about. She had an idea. Made it into a business. Got married, Had kids. And then took her initial idea and shifted into something different. She has entrepreneur written all over her. And the best part ... I love her positive attitude toward life. It shines in this episode.  Our conversation hits THREE areas:

• SEGMENT 1  ✨ | begins with the early days of Shop Compliment and its origin. Melissa discusses all the important pieces that went into taking an idea for a fundraiser and making it into her first business adventure.
• SEGMENT 2 ✨ | gets heavy into entrepreneur material. We talking about Action over Words, Going with your Gut, and the power of a Mastermind with other entrepreneurs. That leads into uncovering her new adventure ... Stand for the And Education Company. We break it down so much that I get excited about becoming a client!
• SEGMENT 3 ✨ | finishes strong with words of wisdom from Melissa. She does a beautiful job of providing some landmark thoughts for entrepreneurs young and old.

Our Connection |  I was the DJ for Melissa and her husband Nick's wedding back in 2015 at the Firehouse Restaurant in Downtown Sacramento. Let's just say it was an EPIC night of celebration. That led to being the DJ at Melissa's brother's wedding in 2017. Along the way, I have tracked Melissa and her success as an entrepreneur. That's why she had to be on the show!

CRISTINA MENDONSA spent 22 years as the evening news anchor at News 10.  A Carmichael native and a 30-year veteran in the world of news broadcasting, Mendonsa is currently the morning news anchor on the top morning show in Sacramento at KFBK and runs her own media company called Mendonsa Media. It is hard to believe that her and long-time co-anchor Dale Schornack sat in the News 10 chair for 19 years. But that all changed a few years ago when the company decided to go 'a different direction.' The two icons were no more. Didn't seem right. What is great about Cristina is that she could've been sad and gave up, but that simply isn't in her nature. You will love Cristina's story and will leave inspired!

HOST STEVE BUZZARD on Cristina Mendonsa |  "This was truly an honor to have the opportunity to hear Cristina's journey. it was really good and full of incredible wisdom. I love the fact that each decision in her TV broadcasting career was intentional. We are truly fortunate to have Cristina showcase her talents here in Northern Calfironia.  Our conversation hits THREE areas:

• SEGMENT 1  🎙 | is dedicated to Cristina's current job as the morning news anchor on KFBK 1530 AM and 93.1 FM. As expected, her expertise along with the pairing of Sam Shane resulted in a morning show (5-9 a.m. M-F) that went from #12 to recently being named #1 in the area. Cristina gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her routine and what she experiences on a daily basis.
• SEGMENT 2 📺 | highlights the business Cristina built a few years ago called Mendonsa Media. We talk about the pieces that were put in place to make the transition for not being at News 10 anymore to being a true entrepreneur. Then it gets fun when Cristina shares her journey in broadcasting. This is good stuff.
• SEGMENT 3 💪🏼  | hits a lot of topics. Her TV co-anchor and friend Dale Schornack. Relationships between local stations. Everything surrounding "The Purge" (as Cristina likes to call it), Journalism. Sacramento. And of course, I couldn't leave without some pearls of wisdom from Mendonsa.

Our Connection |  I can actually say that I have never had the chance to meet Cristina until our conversation. We connected through social media and Cristina was very kind to offer her time to do the podcast. I am glad she came aboard and shared her story.
