Gregory's Girl review

In my latest post, I discuss the classic teenage romantic comedy, Gregory's Girl. It's been 40 years since the movie came out! It might be a little bit dated and slow-moving but today's standards, but time hasn't diminished its ability to engage and entertain. A gem of a film.

Greetings, lovely people! In this week's post I share my thoughts on recently published gay-themed novel 'Rainbow Milk' by newcomer Paul Mendez. Two very interesting narratives that perhaps don't quite gel together as a whole, nevertheless a book that raises a lot of important issues and one I would recommend checking out.

Eurovision 2021

I'm back, back, BACK, guys and gals! I bet you'd all given up on ever hearing from me again. Well, I'm pleased to say it's not the case. And what better topic to return with than that of Eurovision, broadcast across the planet last night. On this post I share my thoughts on my favourite performances/songs and some of the lesser, but nevertheless entertaining ones. Oh and I've realised I hardly said anything about the UK entry - a bit run of the mill but we didn't deserve to score nil points!! :-(

Those hazy crazy GAY nights!!

In my latest post I kick off with a discussion of 'Duckie', one of my favourite ever gay nights at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, the oldest surviving gay pub in South London. This leads me into reminiscing about some of the other gay venues that I used to frequent like G.A.Y. at the Astoria, Wig Out at Ghetto and Shinky Shonky at the Polar Bear - great nights out with many great memories! Sadly the gay scene today can be viewed as a bit of a shadow of its former glorious self. How many of you loved these places as much as I did?

Having looked at the original tv show, in this week's post I discuss the 2000s movie adaptations of 'Charlie's Angels'. How have they moved on from the 1970s? Note, I don't say so much about the second movie as I didn't enjoy that one as much. Sorry! It's all about Lucy Lui, my girl Drew, Cameron D and Destiny!

Happy Halloween guys! Well technically it's already happened but nevertheless I thought I'd take the opportunity to post my thoughts on some of my favourite horror movies, focusing in the main on Brian De Palma's 1976 classic, 'Carrie'. Enjoy :-) (I realised after posting that I forgot to mention the actors playing the ‘nice guy’ characters in the film - Betty Buckley as Miss Collins, Amy Irving as Sue Snell and William Katy as Tommy Ross - all good performances as friends of Carrie 👍 And there’s also an excellent film score by Pino Donaggio 👍👍

Heaven must be missing an Angel

Forgive me for nicking the title from the early 2000s Charlie's Angels movie. Yes in my latest post, I'm focusing on the famous 1970s American tv show which focused on a trio of female private investigators, solving crimes. Although criticised in some quarters, there's still a lot to enjoy. I'm mainly talking about the first season of the programme which features Farrah Fawcett-Majors as the sparky blonde Jill Munroe, alongside Kate Jackson as Sabrina Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as Kelly Garrett. I've just realised that Bosley hardly gets a mention - whoops ;-)

This week I talk about a movie that made a big impact on me when it came out in the early 1990s, 'My Own Private Idaho', starring one of my favourite ever actors, River Phoenix (sadly no longer with us) and Keanu Reeves (the subject of my last post!) Whilst not perhaps a masterpiece the film has many merits and is certainly worthy of discussion.
