The hero’s journey always has a common thread of pain. The difference between the hero and the villain is what they chose to do with that pain and their great strength. 

The Darryl Strawberry story has been shared under a microscope. The world championships and the seedy drug dens that led to suspensions. 

But Darryl’s story didn’t  start or end there. Darryl shares the domestic violence in his childhood home and the physical abuse of his father growing up. He decided that he would overcome the message of his father, "that Darryl would never become anything of worth or substance," by setting his sights on baseball as an outlet and place where he could excel. 

Becoming a celebrity athlete took Darryl from poverty to the "golden child" of sports. But the money, women and drugs wouldn't fill the brokenness and emptiness of his abusive, absent father. 

While raising Darryl and his five siblings, Darryl's mom invested in him, and her unconditional care and faithfulness instilled the character that would later help Darryl rise above the addictions that consumed his life.  The unconditional love of his mom and his wife gave him hope to get clean and share the Source of his metamorphosis. When her friend decided to make a cross-country move to Kansas, Rachael was initially concerned about what it would mean for their friendship. However, distance couldn't diminish the love and support they have for each other.

Since the move, they've continued to walk through life's ups and downs. From job changes to family drama, they've been each other's sounding board and support system. Rachael talks with Kindra about how her friend has thrived in her new home, started nursing school and grown as a person through the stress and challenge of transition.

Michele has extensive training in specialized evidence-based trauma recovery models for children, adolescents, and adults. She primarily provides counseling for adults who have been traumatized in various life stages. She uses Story-Informed Trauma Counseling and other trauma models, such as Eye-Movement De-sensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACTS), and Sand Tray Therapy to help adults heal from life trauma. She also works with couples to help heal their relational attachment wounds, creating safe and intimate connections using Emotionally Focused Therapy, which is the most effective evidence-based therapy model for relational healing. Michele is a Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor. 

In the last eight years, Michele has provided training and consultation in her community, as well as in England, Israel, Alabama (tornadoes), Missouri (police violence), and New York (Hurricane Sandy). In 2016, Michele and her staff helped the greater Baton Rouge community recover, following the police violence and the 1000-year flood that destroyed thousands of homes and left behind a tsunami of emotional and spiritual damage.

For many years, Michele has served on the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) Board for Grief, Crisis, and Disaster. She now works with AACC to help with their Project SUSTAIN, which is a roadmap for helping heal communities impacted by man-made or natural disasters. Project SUSTAIN has been launched in Las Vegas (mass shooting), Texas (Harvey), ,California (fires) and Puerto Rico (Maria) to help with both short-term and long-term recovery. Project SUSTAIN has been utilized to help churches and communities impacted by the Covid-10 pandemic. 

She has been married to Jim Louviere, a pastor and hospice chaplain, for 30 years and has two amazing children.

The hero’s journey always has a common thread of pain. The difference between the hero and the villain is what they chose to do with that pain and their great strength. 

The Darryl Strawberry story has been shared under a microscope. The world championships and the seedy drug dens that led to suspensions. 

But Darryl’s story didn’t  start or end there. Darryl shares the domestic violence in his childhood home and the physical abuse of his father growing up. He decided that he would overcome the message of his father, "that Darryl would never become anything of worth or substance," by setting his sights on baseball as an outlet and place where he could excel. 

Becoming a celebrity athlete took Darryl from poverty to the "golden child" of sports. But the money, women and drugs wouldn't fill the brokenness and emptiness of his abusive, absent father. 

While raising Darryl and his five siblings, Darryl's mom invested in him, and her unconditional care and faithfulness instilled the character that would later help Darryl rise above the addictions that consumed his life.  The unconditional love of his mom and his wife gave him hope to get clean and share the Source of his metamorphosis. Hope For The Heart, which she founded in 1986, offers biblical hope and practical help – through biblical counsel, coaching and context for contemporary concerns – in more than 60 countries on 6 continents.

Early family pain was the catalyst that shaped June’s compassionate heart. Later as a youth director, and then becoming a college/career director, she became aware of the need for sound biblical counsel. This led June to a lifelong commitment to provide God’s Truth for Today’s Problems.

After years of teaching and research, she developed Counseling Through The Bible, a scripturally based counseling course addressing 100 topics, such as Marriage, Parenting and Boundaries … Anger, Addictions and Abuse … Depression, Stress and Suicide. These resources grew to become the 100-topic Biblical Counseling Library, which helps people move from wrong thinking to right thinking … and from wrong living to right living.

The ministry has steadily grown internationally. Many Hope For The Heart resources have been translated into over 35 languages with more translation requests coming in yearly. In 2002, her first international book, simply called The Keys, received the “Best Book of the Year” award when first launched in the St. Petersburg’s Book Fair. Today, Hope For The Heart partners with indigenous ministries, often in difficult-to-reach countries, to imbed tools and training to help leaders counsel, disciple and share the hope of Christ. Hope For The Heart reaches Chinese and Spanish language speakers around the globe with online counseling and training resources. We are crossing borders and language barriers by reaching into homes and hearts with the message of hope in Christ and application of God’s Word.

June is always on the go! Whether as a guest professor at colleges and seminaries or as a conference or broadcast speaker, she is grateful for every opportunity to share the hope of Christ, both nationally and internationally.
