God desires closeness with us, but our sins have created a barrier so that we cannot worship Him with a clean conscience.  We need to confess and ask for His cleansing.  Sometimes we may even need to weep and humble ourselves a bit on bended knee, but God promises to restore us if we submit our hearts to Christ.  He is not condemning us, but is calling us to Love Him in Spirit and Truth.  "Humble yourselves then before the Lord and He will lift you up."
