This bold gesture was not just deeply revealing; it also triggered Judas to criticize the use of expensive perfume, suggesting it could have been sold to aid the poor, as noted in John 12:5. What resonates most about this chapter is how Mary’s act foreshadows Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross. His declaration in John 12:32 of being ‘lifted up’ to save others from darkness and his response to the Greeks about finding life by hating it, as mentioned in John 12:25, are profound reflections on the path of true discipleship.

Today, as we conclude our series on the letters in the book of Revelation to the seven churches in Asia Minor, I invite you to reflect on some important questions.

Question 1: Do you have a distorted perception of yourself? I believe that many of us would answer affirmatively. This issue is addressed by Jesus Himself in Matthew 23:27-28, where He pronounces a woe upon the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, calling them hypocrites. He compares them to whitewashed tombs that may look beautiful on the outside, but are filled with the bones of the dead and everything unclean on the inside. Jesus explains that although these individuals may appear righteous to others, they are actually consumed by hypocrisy and wickedness within.

It is a common tendency for us to carefully shape a particular image of ourselves to present to the world, while concealing our true inner struggles. Even when we engage in introspection and sincerely attempt to address our sins, we often still fall prey to this distorted perception. So, let us pause for a moment and consider: Where within myself do I harbor this distorted perception?

Sardis
Today, as we take a look at the Book of Revelation and explore its intriguing epistles, we find ourselves at the threshold of the letter to Sardis. However, before embarking on this captivating journey, let us momentarily divert our attention to a topic of great relevance today - motherhood. Today marks the celebration of Mother's Day!

Reflecting upon my own experiences, I can affirm that parenthood is a transformative voyage, brimming with profound joy and, at times, paradoxical sensations. Today, I would like to shed light on an aspect of motherhood that is often overlooked but holds equal importance. Our wise friend, Rod, once cautioned me before the arrival of our first child, sharing these words of wisdom: "Mark, the path of a mother is extraordinary, beyond your complete understanding. Thus, as a father, it becomes your responsibility to contribute in ways that alleviate her burdens. Changing diapers may appear trivial, yet it symbolizes shared accountability."

And so, standing here today, six years later, having changed diapers every single day, I find it to be a humbling experience that has tested my resilience on occasion. The myriad bodily fluids I have encountered often triggered discomfort within me. Nevertheless, I have come to perceive them as symbols of life and growth. Yes, they may be unpleasant, yet they possess an oddly captivating beauty that mirrors the enigmatic essence of parenthood.

We unpack how the church in Thyatira tolerated the teachings of Jezebel, who lured followers into sexual immorality and idolatry. This tolerance is a warning to us, as Christians today, to be wary of permitting similar influences in our lives.
