This is an audio version of the full video conversation. Watch the video here >>

Through this series, we meet leaders from Australian Baptist Churches who are engaging with their local community in creative ways. In this episode, Nathan Reid heads to the heart of Sydney to meet with the Central Baptist Church team. He's heard great things about the vibrant Thai congregation, and he wants to find out more! He sits down with Pastor Nun, who leads the Thai congregation, Senior Pastor John and Kitty, one of the emerging leaders.

In this conversation, you'll hear how sharing God's love in practical ways sparked the forming of the Thai congregation, their global Kingdom vision and the complexities they navigate as a church with four congregations, all meeting in different languages.

Pastor John sums it up beautifully, sharing: "With all our diversity, I pray that we'd be remarkable. That the light of Jesus would shine out from us and people would think, ‘God is at work'."

Discussion questions:

  1. What surprises, challenges or inspires you in this story?
  2. Pastor John says in the conversation, "With all our diversity, I pray that we'd be remarkable." How can you see God at work through the diversity of your church community?
  3. The Thai congregation was born out of acts of simple, practical love. How is your church responding to the needs of your community? Are there new missional opportunities you could step into as you seek to reach out?
  4. What does it mean for your church to honour cultural diversity, while hold tightest to a unified 'Jesus culture'? In what ways has this been done well or poorly in the past?
  5. As you reflect on this example of active love, welcome and one-ness, what questions are being prompted about your church's local and global mission engagement?

Through this series, we will meet leaders from Australian Baptist Churches who are engaging with their local community in creative ways. We celebrate that the world has come to Australia and yet recognise that this brings additional complexities as we seek to share God's love across cultures, languages and backgrounds.

For this first episode, our Executive Director Scott Pilgrim sat down with the team at Citywide Baptist and Hobart Nepali Church, Matt, Paul, Jivan and Dan. Across cultures and multiple campuses, this is a church passionate about loving their community and each other.

In this conversation, you'll hear about the driving school, how the Nepali and Citywide congregations came together, and how they navigate the ongoing complexities of being one church.

Discussion questions:

  1. What surprises, challenges or inspires you in this story?
  2. How are you seeing your local community evolve? (Culturally, socially, religiously, economically etc.) How is this change impacting the way your church runs and reaches out?
  3. What are the needs of your local community? How are you responding to these needs? Are there any new missional opportunities God is leading your church to engage in?
  4. How is your church community intentionally seeking to be one, unified in Jesus? What has the potential to sow division and undermine unity?
  5. As you reflect on this example of active love, welcome and one-ness, what questions are being prompted about your church's local and global mission engagement?

]]> There are many different understandings of the phrase 'person of peace', and Nathan, Kath and Cam dive into all of them in this podcast episode!

Cam and Kath are dynamic storytellers, deep thinkers and all around wonderful people who are faithfully - and courageously - living out God's call to share His love. Don't miss their rich and joyful conversation with Nathan Reid.

Kath and Cam have been serving with Baptist Mission Australia in Mozambique for ten years. And in conversation with host Nathan, they share stories of how God has gone before them and placed people of peace in their lives - opening Kingdom opportunities.

They also explore how God is growing them as peacemakers themselves. Teaching them to listen well, journey alongside, take it slow and just be willing to step out.

This is a rich conversation full of stories, deep reflections and laughter. Enjoy!

In the conversation, Geoff Maddock talks with Paul who is the Nepali congregation Pastor and Dan who is the church's Executive Pastor. Their journey is an excellent case study and example of how this ‘everywhere to everywhere’ model of mission can take shape at a local Australian church level. They also share some of the simple yet highly relevant ways they are sharing God's love through practically responding to the needs of the wider migrant and refugee community in Hobart.

In partnership with our global Baptist movement, Baptist Mission Australia is seeking to rethink the ‘from the west to the rest’ model of intercultural mission, and move to a ‘from everywhere to everywhere’ model.

And that's the focus of this 'Everywhere to Everywhere' podcast series.

The future of global mission is polyvocal and polycentric. Polyvocal, meaning many voices, and polycentric, meaning many centres. This is about elevating the voices of people from diverse cultural, linguistic and geographical backgrounds and decentering the western church as the instigator, decision maker, sender and funder.

This conversation is happening at a global level. And we want to be part of it. At a Baptist Mission Australia level, we are actively seeking to open the circle to welcome new people, partnerships and possibilities. We invite you to come on the journey with us through this podcast series and beyond.

He's been there with Villy and their three daughters for 20 years! And Jodie MacCartney brings great insight from her years serving in Thailand as well as from her current role at Baptist Mission Australia as a Mobilisation Specialist.

Together, Geoff, Muana and Jodie explore what polycentric and polyvocal mission is, and then flesh out the concepts with stories and reflections from their lived experience. It's a conversation full of humility, faithfulness and questions without simple answers. Join us!

This episode explores what it means to be sent, whether we have to 'go' to be sent and the everyday choices we'll be presented with as we seek to follow Jesus and live out our call. Caz also shares a wonderful story of a local believer who has been sent like the Son in her community, and Andrew has the opportunity to reflect on what he has learnt over a decade of journeying with people preparing to go.
